Managed to see the P50S10 just now in QBM. The reflection on the glass is really bad...especially when the image is dark.

But if U have a theater-like lighting at home should be fine.
*
I was at SenQ 2 days ago and saw a Pioneer Kuro there. I check out the screen and the refelction is just as bad as the panasonic. But why no one complaint about the Kuro?

I did look at the 50X10 and it does have very bad reflective screen. I am not too sure how they will look in my house because at the showroom, there are just too many bright TVs in the surrounding and the showroom itself is too brightly lighted. Maybe at home we might not really notice any reflection as there is no really "bright" object to cause any bad reflections.

QBM selling the P50S10K, how much?

BHB I-Anevue selling RM6399, ridiculous price.
P42S10K selling RM3999.
*
Is RM6399 ridiculous price? Have you check the price of other FULL HD LCD or plasma of the same size and compare the price? The last time I check, even a 46" LCD cost more than that and a 50" Full HD LCD is easily more than RM10k.

I personally think that RM6399 the lowest price for a 50" Full HD LCD or plasma currently on the market.

Comparing the X and the S series, the S series has a much better anti reflectance coating. The only difference is the X series appears as though there is no coating.

All plasmas use glass, there is bound to be reflection. Kuro is the same no difference. Panasonic X series is not that great in ARC, the S seems to be the same as any other plasma.

Not sure why there seems to be so much complaints abt the S series, it looks normal to me.

Maybe the comparisons are made in reference to LCD.

I agree. Full HD is more expensive, especially at 50in. Panasonic has made all the efforts to bring down the price of a full HD plasma. Last years 50PY850 was almost RM13k.... For those people who think it is still expensive, maybe next year it will go down more. Remember a 34in CRT was almost RM4500 just a few years ago. Now at the same price you can get a 50in 768p set.

Prices will fall every year. If you want the set, get it within your affordable means.
*
I guess the bad reflection is due to too many light emitting tvs in the surrounding on the showroom.

Agree with you totally. The KRP is as reflective as the Panasonic. I have pointed this out before but still people keep on talking that it is so great and perfect.

If it is perfect, why is it so reflective?

I guess we may have to rethink about Pioneer's so called greatness. It could be some paid foreign journalist who has given a great review and we Msians just echo the same words.

I own a Pioneer and it gives the same quality as a Panasonic.

Plasma definitely gives better black and white and that can improves image quality considerably, but this advantages quickly disappear if you are watching in a room with strong backlight or bright light source that directly reflect on the tv screen.

Its definitely better with bigger screen size. What makes it even better is the price....where can you find another 50" full HD screen at this price. what more to say this is pana plasma! not any chap ayam china brand.

Next year will be cheaper than this year. The the year after next year will be even cheaper. The price is always dropping. Buy when you need it, not when its cheaper, because it will laways get cheaper.

I agree with u. But what I mean is I hope the price in Penang will be same as your price, then should be good enuff.

The last time I "almost" bought the 50S10 for RM5600 but only to discover that the seller made a mistake and deliver the 50X10 instead. Since then I have been trying to get the 50S10 but nobody in Sarawak got stock and the price is Rm6350 from SenQ and RM6000 from outside shop.

So far no luck getting the 50S10 yet. Non of the shop carry them yet. SenQ salesman say they will not carry it because 50" full HD plasma is not popular and tv above Rm5000 is not hot seller! Then he try to sell me the more expensive LED samsung tv....what kind of bullshit is he trying to tell me!

But I have to admit that the LEDsamsung LCD is indeed beautiful. The picture quality is amazing.

I think I have to wait 1 more month until my trip back home and hopefully by then the 50S10 will be readily available everywhere.

QUOTE(bongbo @ Jul 21 2009, 01:41 AM)
Bros,

After months of researching and stare-ing for hours at LCD/Plasma TV. Last weekend was in the mood to buy the Panasonic THP50S. Cheapest I have found is the shop opposite Carrefour Kepong, same road as the stand alone KFC Kepong. I think the shop's name was Wing Heng or Weng Hing or something. Just go over to Kepong and check it yourself and look for the Boss name Peter.

Anyways, the price for the Panny THP50S is RM5300/-  rclxms.gif

Was almost putting down my money on it but needed to check Desa Home Theatre Kepong as my final destination to check prices after went everywhere lah.

In the end I ended up with a Philips LCD Full HD 52inch PFL5403 clearing stock brand new for Rm 6299 with  3 year warranty and 1 year insurance.

Have compared the Panny 50X vs Panny 50S vs Philips 52 PFL5403 vs Samsung 52 8 series vs Sony 52 W series

The glare on the Panny 50X was ridiculously terrible , the Panny 50S is better at least half less glare but still glaring.(Best for evening /night /darker room viewing) Still value for money.

The philips in the other hand was equal on Astro and  better than the panny when HD content was played hence I purchase it with great expectation and in addition no glare. Again I'm the type of person who has 5X1 Terrabyte external hard drive of HD Movie etc contents and my living room has a lot of windows.

The Samsung and Sony is a lil bit bitter by around 15% when fast movement was involve but their prices are well over RM8K.

The PFL5403 is a phasing out model and going to be replaced by the 5409s. Original Price for the 52" 5403 Philips was Over RM10,000++ last year with 1 year warranty.

Give the Philips 52PFL5403 a consideration and demo before purchasing the Panny 50S.  Its the mid level model, 2 inch bigger than the panny and seriously flares better in HD content plus its a LCD. The downside thing is, its RM999 more expensive, Philips branding and advertising is not as strong in M'sia(Not glamor) and you will raise some eyebrows on people who thinks they know all about buying a plasma/LCD. Its just like buying an Audi...  laugh.gif At least we dont see about re-sale value here...

If you're the type who watch Astro more, go ahead buy the panny 50S with confidence.
Either way, for now the Panny 50s Plasma and the Philips 52PFL5403  is the best value for Plasma and LCD.

Reviews for the Philips I found so Far:

Word of advice, please insist for the shop to bring out the stock from their store and write down the serial number of the particular unit they bring out after you check the box. On the invoice as well record down the serial number. With that at least you know that a particular unit is available for you before delivery. At least you also feel better that they would not give you the unit on their showroom wall or do a "Legend" on you thumbup.gif

Lightning69,

Dont fall into their tricks bro, Typical Miri-ian Sales man... They will try to sumpit you, then chop your head like a headhunter, cincang you and lastly roast you while drinking tuak to close you and for you to fork out your hard earnned the money.

Any chance you have a 4X4? Always can go over to Brunei to Kuala Belait to buy your 50" Tv. Mayb its cheaper you'll never know.

I miss Miri mee merah la wei... Anyways, how's your AV getting along??? not going to upgrade from your CHT12R to a SVS PC12NSD or Plus? drool.gif

Will complement the New Philips with the PC12NSD sub once it has arrive in KEC Sg. I will be driving over to Singapore to smuggle the sub back to KL end of Aug. I hear last Sunday with SVS Ron was good. Read about it here: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=64111.195
By the way, I'm an ex St. Joseph school /  Pujut 1 Boy  thumbup.gif

Hi. Very good write up and comparison between those TVs. Really informative and helpful for those looking for a new TV. Btw, how did you do the comparison between those TVs? Is it a side by side comparison with the same source? Just asking because its pretty interesting to see someone choosing an LCD over a plasma TV as plasma usually gives better picture due to better blacks and color. I think the latest pana plasma is a bit disappointing due to the poor anti-reflective coating and also the in-accurate color reported by many reviewers.

I don't have a 4x4 but i do have a mpv and i did check out the price of pana in brunei and i think they are more expensive than Miri.

I actually want to add one piece of advise, do not make your decision on the picture quality based on showroom floor. If possible, some showrooms have dedicated lower lit rooms, they are more representive of your living room.
*
I do agree with you that most showroom are pretty bright, but from what I see there is really no escape from reflection even in our homes especially living room as most living room are bright and most living room wall are white color too. That is the biggest drawback of plasma tv as the reflection can take away all the benefits of a plasma screen like deep blacks becomes white wall and even seeing yourself on the screen!

A 1TB Buffalo External now cost RM330. So, RM330 x 15 = RM4950, just to store those files.

Actually I compared the Samsung to Pana G. The Samsung wins lah. It is blacker and better PQ. Somemore, 42G is same price as Samsung 50 inch, thus, double bonus, more value

Many times you speak like there's no tomorrow and later after you check out yourselves and blown away, you regret. Talk before you speak. I told you before Pana S42 was GREY and highly reflective, you SWORE it was as good as Kuro, then you checked Samsung was better, you hit Pana bad... Now I'm teling you Hitachi have pretty impressive set, you straight away hentam... C'mon lar, forumers can see your attitude already. Make wise and just comments only.

Added on July 27, 2009, 5:38 pm
Wah, how many plasma sets you have? Before you said you had Pioneer at home, now you also have the crappy Hitachi. I bet, you might have some "stupid" LCD TVs also. I'm impressed! wink.gif
At the time when I was a fan of the 42S, the Samsung was not out. So, how to know? Pakai crystal ball kah?

Btw, is it wrong to have a few plasmas at home?

It's kind of like difficult for me.
I need to get one more hdmi converter and 'squeeze' the tv's on my cabinet only then i can post the pic 'side by side'.
Btw yesterday I watched concert in dark room. It was 'great' tho it's still in early hours of operation.
I ll try doing it over weekend when I am free.
*
How is the reflection on this samsung plasma. The older samsung plasma is like a mirror. Is this set better then the S10? I am really concern about the reflection. The other thing is also the image retention. I read from one review that this new samsung plasma is very prone to image retention. Did you notice any retention from still images left on the screen after a short period of time?

Looks like the 50S10 is not getting the buzz like the 50X10. Is it because the 50S10 is not that good? Even the new Samsung plasma seems to out perform the pana plasma.

Did Pana cut too much corner on the newer plasma? Most reviewer say the picture on the new full hd plasma from pana looks soft and less details as compare to the some other better tv. Colors is off too and screen reflection is very bad. Some claims the screen looks dull and dim as compare to lcd.

What do you guys think?

Not saying that the Panny is worst. Just responding to the Bladerunner qoute.

In fact I don't likle the sammy one too as the IR is very bad.

I was wondering abt 2years extended warranty too, is it worth rm390 for it?..

Somemore that salesman slumber said "Yea, better get extended warranty, u know lar... flat-screen tvs much faster to spoil compared to tube-tvs wan... 3-5years like that"...

That kinda a remark... makes me "WTF?!"...  doh.gif  sweat.gif

Cheers smile.gif

I read an article about extended warranty and it says that is a waste of money. Consider the fact that Panasonic already give 2+1 years warranty, and if the TV is working fine after these warranty, it should be ok.

I'm still considering whether to purchase the extended warranty.
