and salk haven't reply my email regarding shipping. After further research, I think salk might not play nicely above 100db. So if you looking for very loud and dynamic speaker, have to look into Rocket RS850. Plus the price is USD 500 cheaper. Movie reference level is 105db (THX reference level). Most of us will play in between 85db to 95db which is pretty loud. As for MTS-01 with new XO, not much review and I think most people back off after the first review. As it is their first attempt at speaker, might need to take v2 to get the ingredient right.

Its a shame SVS didn't get it right the first time. Looks like a lot of good speakers are only online direct. With the shipping cost so high, it makes it hard for us to own them.

If the dynaudio is so good, then this means that the Sierra is a steal...

Quote from Review By Clarke Robinson from enjoythemusic.com

"There are many different types of audio dealers. Some are okay, many are not, but AudioVision SF is what you hope for any time you walk in to a hi-fi shop. They represent a broader range of manufacturers than any shop I've ever seen, and Chris, a refreshingly low-pressure salesperson, loves this stuff and he's not afraid to show it off. I made an appointment initially to compare the Sierra-1 with the much-lauded Dynaudio Focus 140, which is around $1800 and an excellent speaker that was designed, like the Sierra, with total neutrality in mind. After a few swaps I really couldn't hear any difference between the two. To hear anything resembling an improvement over the Sierra-1, we had to step up to the Dali Helicon 300, a cool $3299 a pair."

Lightning Bro,

Not sure about reviews though, but I think reviews are just the supportive reference when you're unsure and have shortlisted your initial list and budget.

If what the reviewer claims and it goes the same with what you hear and feel then that's a keeper. But again that's when you've already auditioned them, and just unsure which you like best.

Anyway, buying blindly would just be based on reviews and just "blindly", are you the type?

All those are not available here i think, except the Dali which has recently been taken over by A&L, previously i think the other one was in City Square.

Can't just judge which is better based on reviews, at most times.

I fully agreed with you...in fact a lot of reviews are bogus or bias. That is why i am not ready to buy one just yet.

But so far there are lots of audiophile reviews on the Sierra and they are nothing but astounding. Remember the speakers shoot out from users on avforum on my earlier post. Here is the link just in case you miss it. Link That is some of the best way to tell how a speaker perform in relations to other speakers.

Here is photo taken from the events.

Being able to stand own its own against all those bigger speakers is no easy task for the Sierra.

If you go to my above post on the great speakers shoot-out, the are some rocket speakers there too.  Can we buy the rocket and the Salk here in malaysia?

bro unless u wanna listen to music in full range using only your speakers, without your sub, u should be looking at ascend 340se. They are supposed to be more neutral, easier to drive and take more punishment than sierra1, just cant go as low as sierra1. They r on sale now too but still u have to be sure neutral speakers r what u r looking for. Buying speakers based on reviews is never advisable. I did it but bcoz i was fed up with the few stores that i visited locally. Either no ready stock to audition, bad service or more bad service with ridiculous price.

Pls take note dat there r too many fanboys around including ascend and svs fanboys so take everything with few pinches of salt. Just use the reviews as a rough guide to know the characteristic of the speakers. If u have a frenly local hifi store to go to then it is always a better choice, if u happen to stay in a kampung like me without a frenly local hifi store then maybe Internet Direct maybe your last option. Sorry talk until off topic liao

I'm using the B&W602 now which is also a studio monitor albeit a cheap one. I am quite happy with it. Not sure how much better is the Sierra.

Added on June 30, 2009, 5:59 pmThis from one of the person during the speaker shootout...

"We were able to hear the Sierra's in his room along with the SVS sub. Having the sub there added another dimension to the Sierra's. I think I can speak for those who were there... We all looked at each other like "holy **** this is impressive".

maybe I can replicate the same thing in my living room smile.gif

Let me share another speaker suggestion - Revel.

You might say "What?!? Revel stuff is super expensive and out of consideration". Actually since we're talking about speakers in the 5k range here, I just found out the 'entry level' Revel Concerta F12 is priced at 5.4k (that is not a typo) and this is a true 3 way speaker.

The reviews are quite positive and demo can be done at Perfect Hi-Fi in Jalan Raja Chulan. I might go there to listen one day.

Another one I might audition later is the Focus Audio FC 8 at 5.8k.

I was surprised also since Revel stuff is normally stratospheric in pricing. That's why I plan to listen to the F12.

Yes, one fine day I hope to be able to get something like the Salon 2. By that time probably got Salon 5 already laugh.gif

The Focus line is expensive. Audience line is the previous series replaced by the Excite series. Also Dynaudios are known to be power hungry.
