I found this thread that have the best shoot out between the SVS and many other speakers.

Link

After reading it, say bye bye to svs.  It seems like everyone recommended the Ascend Seirra speakers in the same price range....another online speaker company.  If you haven't read the link go now...wide range of speakers being compared there.

looks like Dynaaudio is a fantastic speakers but the price is wow...

Apparently SVS has re-voiced & re-designed their speakers as a result of the feedback and reviews on the forums last year. In their MTS-01 page it says:

It's rare, but we left a lot of sonic performance and durability enhancements on the table with the launch of these mid-priced speakers early last year. No longer. Now shipping, the redesigned speakers took good, to truly great. The result of costly new new audiophile-grade, crossovers. The results of the new "voicing" has been amazing

But don't know how the new version sounds compared to the old one.

The Ascend Sierra-1 has got a lot of positive reviews. At USD898 for the piano black finish they are quite pricey. Incl shipping and tax, by the time it gets here would be around 4.7k - 5k. Then some more have to add a few hundred to buy nice stands.

In that price range there are a lot of floorstanders you can audition locally.

Its not that expensive. My friend just got a Dynaudio Audience 52 bookshelf speakers for SGD 1500. The sound blew me away!

Let me share another speaker suggestion - Revel.

You might say "What?!? Revel stuff is super expensive and out of consideration". Actually since we're talking about speakers in the 5k range here, I just found out the 'entry level' Revel Concerta F12 is priced at 5.4k (that is not a typo) and this is a true 3 way speaker.

The reviews are quite positive and demo can be done at Perfect Hi-Fi in Jalan Raja Chulan. I might go there to listen one day.

Another one I might audition later is the Focus Audio FC 8 at 5.8k.

I am surprised! thumbup.gif

RM5.4K is CHEAP for Revel!!! jchong, who knows one day you would upgrade to Ultima Salon 2  brows.gif  Please invite me to audition it  blush.gif Have to ring Alvin to check it out

I was surprised also since Revel stuff is normally stratospheric in pricing. That's why I plan to listen to the F12.

Yes, one fine day I hope to be able to get something like the Salon 2. By that time probably got Salon 5 already laugh.gif

So far you're only bringing in SVS subs right? No speakers?

Had a chance to listen to the Dynaudio Excite X32 yesterday. Wanted to hear what was all the fuss about Dynaudio. CMY said Excite series was suitable for HT use since not as difficult to drive as other models. Still it is a 4 ohm speaker with 87 dB efficiency - so not really easy to drive. It was paired with a Naim amp (CMY said rated at 60W).

Anyway, the sound was very dynamic, good separation, bass was punchy and it was detailed. However, on some tracks it sounded a tad bit bright (which was surprising considering they are soft dome tweeters). Quoted 9.9k for it.
