House of Horror
Have not been visited the website for a while.
Have not watched all recommended movies on the website.
They are more like old school bloody gore horror movies.

I think you meant to say, "slashers are a sub-genre of horror movies."
Those in bold aren't slashers.
*
Don't think 'The house on the left' and 'The funny games' are slashers as well.

QUOTE(Sadistic Reaper @ May 30 2010, 02:30 PM)
And typically, the last survivor is usually the female lead (who's usually the purist of them all in the film)

Speaking of which, if any of us is in a Slasher film, i doubt any of us survives since we don't meet the prerequesites of the "survivor".
*
Dewey survived the first trilogy of Scream and he is a male secondary character in Scream though Sydney is the female lead.

According to Scream,

Rules of Surviving a Slasher Film,
1.You can never have sex.
2.You can never drink or do drugs. (The "sin factor, an extension of number one".)
3.Never, ever, EVER, under any circumstances say "I'll be right back", 'cause you won't be back.

QUOTE(Sadistic Reaper @ May 30 2010, 05:03 PM)
I too, really like watching the first Scream film. There were a lot of twists, and i didn't expect that there were TWO killers in the end. And i was also quite surprised that a big name like Drew Barrymore just gotten killed off like in the first 5-10 mins. Really great stuff. The sequels however, are not great.
I almost forgot about Dewey, and also the reporter too.

I think if given a choice to try to survive in a Slasher film (and most likely getting killed from one), i would definitely would choose a classic slasher theme like Friday the 13th or Halloween. Any others would be horrifyingly painful death, especially when it comes to Nightmare on Elm Street or Hellraiser.
*
I won't survived any slasher film with the sin factor on me, laugh.gif
But something like

Wendy 10 minutes chase scene in original 'Prom Night'.
Or Drew Barrymore 10 minutes of 'Scream' opening death scene

would be a fun cool way to die.
LOL!
I love to watch them suffer.

Seriously, no Italian Horror fans here?
LOL!

Just watched Demons and Zombi 2 back to back.
Quite entertaining despite of bad acting, silly dialogue, plotless story and early 80s make up.
Yay! Confronted my childhood fear, laugh.gif

Just watched Jacob's Ladder.
It hooks me from the beginning to the end.
The deleted scenes from youtube are great too.
It makes sense after watching the deleted scene though.
Anyway, worth a watch for horror movies fans.

It's no surprise!
Every classic gets a remake eventually.
There will be more remakes of the remakes in 20 to 30 years time.

The Fog (The John Carpenter one!)

If u want me to describe this movie in a word, it has to be atmospheric! (No pun intended tongue.gif)

John Carpenter understands the need to built up tension in horror movie.

Most young'un would feel that the movie is slow moving and in a sense it is.

Low budget, I think I finally understand the difference between Hollywood during it's golden years (ended in the 60s) and the 70s

Almost everything that came out before the 70s was lavishly lit (warm)

In the 70s the ugly fluorescent lights rear it's ugly glare to movie giving it more of the "natural" urban look.

I recommend this more then I recommend the remake (with the Clark Kent guy from Smallville)

My Two Sen

This is a 1980 film.
Anyway, the 70s is the best decade for horror films, IMO.

I watched the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. The centerpiece murders are bloody gruesome and depraved, and they push us to root for the remaining victims all the way through. Rarely have I felt so 100% behind the good guys in a movie. It's hard and maybe wrong for one to say this movie is enjoyable, but it's certainly effective.
*
The Hills Have Eyes remake is definitely one of the better remakes.
What next!

Just watched 'A Tale Of Two Sisters'
Frustratingly GOOD.
The plot is very twisted that I suppose no one could have known what happened in the first 3/4 of the movie without watching the last 1/4 of it.
The revelation turns the whole mess, which I got frustrated with, into a very brilliant movie.
I am totally amazed.
Definitely worth a watch.
Yes, I am avoiding the remake.

I guess there are differences here and there.
But still I'm avoiding the remake. laugh.gif

Anyway, finished up another horror movie from France called 'Inside' (À l'intérieur).
No big twist (there is one 'predictable' twist) and the story is simple for this low budget French horror.
Pretty intense, pretty gory, pretty entertaining despite some flaws here and there and there is a huge blood bath.
A gore-hound must watch.
Not for weak stomach!

Started up my horror movies marathon all the way through to Halloween.

Noroi

A Japanese mockumentary that looks like a mockumentary.
It is in no way looks real.
Too many characters involved and too dense the plot (which run for almost 2 hours) for a mockumentary.
It would probably look better if it is not a mockumentary.
However, it does have its chilling moments.

QUOTE(Mikeshashimi @ Nov 25 2010, 10:28 PM)
I can understand why some people dont appreciate the uniqueness of Drag Me To Hell. Coz its really about Sam Raimi coming back with an Evil-Dead like feel to the movie, which I found really good.

I heard WolfCreek is pretty good despite the bad reviews but I havent watch it. haha.

Modern day (in recent times) horror films (Asian and American and anything else) generally lack any scary elements.

Take for instance, Let Me In (albeit a remake), I felt was really poor in terms of a horror movie. What a horror film should be is one that leave the audience with the scare implanted in their minds even after theyve left the cinema. I found 'Tale of Two Sisters (korean)' really creepy. smile.gif
*
Drag Me To Hell is very entertaining and fun to watch but it does not have the creepiness that I found in the original Evil Dead.
Wolf Creek is not bad. At least, it is quite realistic and it can actually happens in real life or it is happening (?)...And not as over the top as Hostel.
Tales Of Two Sisters is not scary but the storytelling is amazing and the story is well executed.

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Nov 30 2010, 04:22 PM)
You want REAL horror?? Watched any of The Twilight movies....

Where a young and impressionable girl's ONLY choices are to

A) Be with a soulless bloodsucking vampire

or

B) Be with a flea bitten werewolf.....

Option C) Study hard, get good grade make something of herself, is NOT even a consideration!!!!!!!!!

SCARY!!!!!!! laugh.gif
*
Twilight is one of the most horrifying movies I've seen in ages.
How horrifying it is if I have to choose to live among the vampires or the werewolf...in fact, I have to live with them even if I don't want to choose any one of them.
Btw, a freak watches me sleep in the middle of the night creeps me out.
Sad life.

QUOTE(hairyLGS @ Nov 30 2010, 04:37 PM)
To each of their own, everyone has their own "horror moment" in their life time.

Some say was this... others say its that...

For me, if it gives a good scare and has a good plot to scare the nerves out of our skin, that's a good horror movie.

Drag Me to Hell is good, but it's not horrific... more of its disgusting (all the spews, vomits and... ugh...). I love Raimi's first Evil Dead, even though its also not horrific.

I have yet found a movie that gives me nightmares (besides mov_freak's Twilight moment  laugh.gif )... but I do love the original Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street; when I was young it "was" scary... but these days, its nothing but gore and grotesque and more gore and more grotesque... even the effects do look fake.

Japanese... Koreans... Americans... Europeans... to each of their own, they have their own scary movies...

By the way, anyone seen Lamberto Bava's Demons? It is not scary but that's what I call a scary effect.  brows.gif
*
Demoni scares me since I was 7. I knew I should not watch it when my parents were not around.
I have no courage to watch it again until recently.
It does have its flaw but you will never want to look out for your friend in toilet after watching it.

I must say recent horror movies are more like a quick thrill ride.
Anyway, Jump scare is fun but not horrifying.
