I wouldn't go as far as calling it boring, it is a gorgeous production and it has a Exorcist and The Omen feel to it. It does "entertain" (you find yourself rooting for the survival of the main casts) I just wish the story was much much "stronger".

The ending did throw me throw me for a loop, because they decided to go there and when they did you get a "warm fuzzy feeling" on the inside....

Er... am I making sense? tongue.gif

I'll just be direct from my pov and still call it boring laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif there's a lot of things they can do better as a horror flick. A lot of disappointments despite riding on the name of a successful horror franchise (Conjuring).

HAHAHAHA in a way that didn't make much sense but I guess that means there's some heart warming story in it. Sometimes I just prefer a horrifying story with no sad tale.

P/S: On an unrelated side note, all Astro channels are currently free to watch till 17/9 thanks to Malaysia Day. Went to BIO channel (731) and watched this "My Ghost Story Asia" with each episode featuring true stories of people from different countries on their spooky encounter. Watched S1 Ep4 and it's featuring Malaysia sweat.gif there were 2 stories and the 2nd one by Soo Wincci totally spooked me out. Didn't help that I watched it around midnight and will be going straight to bed afterwards. Go catch it, there are repeats thumbup.gif

Halloween (2018)

Masterful

My Two Sen

Most of you will know, John Carpenter directed Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) which were well received.

Well, it spurred on the "slasher" films (Friday the 13th Anyone?)

And then Rob Zombie (Yes, THAT Rob Zombie) rebooted the franchise Halloween (2007) & Halloween II (2009) and for the life of me, I am vague on whether I actually watched those....

I was not motivated to watch this latest iteration, frankly, because

1). I am slasher film fatigue

2). I was disappointed that Sony did not treat us to THE short 3D remastered version of Michael Jackson's Thriller in front of this (Sony, WHAT THE HEY!!! When are we going to get to SEE that!!!)

Okay, so what happened. The critics.... like this movie. And then VERY cynically friends who are cynical to movies, watched and praised this movie!!

Paint me intrigued.

I went.

I saw.

I like!!!

From the first frame to the last.

Do note that this only acknowledges the original John Carpenter's movies and nothing else, so don't get confused.

Michael is TRULY deranged.

And it is.... infectious??

I will stop there.

Plunk down your money and go see this.

You know you want to.

My Additional Two Sen.

Overlord (2018)

Okay... What do you get, when you cross WWII D-Day with Zombie and J.J. Abrams?

The answer, would probably be this movie.

The Good

1). The paratrooper scene, I have never seen anything so... captivating. Really well done. (Anti Aircraft ordinance and
chaos)
2). P.O.V of the Boyce (played by Jovan Adepo) character.
3). The script.
4). Production quality.

The Bad

1). So little background story for the characters (eg. most characters are so thinly developed)
2). I am never a fan of war movies, if anything, this movie enforces that (the ugliness of war)

The Ugly

1). The brutality. I really feel, some violence here were unnecessary...

Was surprise that this movie is already showing.

It was either this, or Bohemian Rhapsody. This had better timing for me, so...

What that, my two sen.

I’m a big fan of horror movies because they are mysterious, creepy, and thoughtful.
Top 3 from me, all of them released in 2018! nod.gif

1. A Quiet Place
A family is forced to live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.
Totally enjoyed this one and I pray they make a sequel!

2. The Meg
After escaping an attack by what he claims was a 70-foot shark, Jonas Taylor must confront his fears to save those trapped in a sunken submersible.
It is a good movie and the end is awesome. Worth the watch!

3. Halloween (2018)
Laurie Strode confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Shlash. Run. Scream. Loved it. Jamie Lee Curtis is a complete badass!

I agree it's good! The concept was 'fresh' and all these old murder tapes freaked me out.

Ahhh A Quiet Place. It was so quiet in the cinema that I had trouble eating my popcorn or even move around! But yes it's a good movie.

Not really into slasher films as it's mostly..... too gory hmm.gif but the ones I find good were House of Wax, The Hills Have Eyes, Jeepers Creepers I & II, Inside and Don't Breathe.

Happy Death Day 2U (2019)

The first movie was a surprise "hit".

So the powers that be, decided on a sequel.

As you guys know, sequels usually don't work.

Alot bigger better movies had tried and failed and it is with great pleasure that I report to you, this little movie did a sequel and it is... great!

The nagging voice that ask, why did she time loop, is thoroughly explained here and it becomes the premised for the movie.

So, this time round it is a science fiction!

Again, all is well and the movie works.

The gang is back and with delightful additions like Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi anyone?) and Sarah Yarkin.

It is really a good sequel and if you were entertained by the first movie, you are sure to be entertained by this one.

Do watch the first one before you watch this, otherwise you will be confused.

Also note that this is not "horror" in the supernatural sense.

Enjoy

Us (2019)

Wow

Jordan Peele is turning into a goto director for thrills and suspense.

First Get Out (2017) and now Us (2019).

Will he be the next Alfred Hitchcock or (and I don't want to jinx him) M. Night Shyamalan.... tongue.gif

In homage to Alfred Hitchcock he even did a The Birds (1963) scene!!

To fully appreciate this movie, you would have to have lived through 1986.

And I have... laugh.gif

Hands Across America, Michael Jackson's (is this a dirty word now??) Thriller Album...

Lupita Nyong'o is amazing here.

And Winston Duke (M'Baku) plays.... the comedic relief?? laugh.gif

This movie, draws you in, getting you more and more involved and than when you least expects it, hits you with the revelation at the end!!! blink.gif

If you like thriller and suspense, this is THE movie for you.

Enjoy.

Really wanted to like Us coz the trailer looked damn promising but alas. The scare scenes were pretty good but plotline was too loose, unless Peele already planned to do another movie explaining half of the stuff that went on

The Curse of the Weeping Woman (2019)

So, how is this?

It is well cast, script is decent and direction is competent.

I am not sure if "the legend" of La Llorona is based on any true legend, and have to add, it is very Medea (greek myth, See Jason and Argonauts)

James Wan seem to be affiliated to the 1970s, and this movie does a good job of visit the said period.

The main leads Linda Cardellini as Anna Tate-Garcia, Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen as Samantha Garcia and Roman Christou as Chris Garcia are really good at their respective roles.

As scares go, I am not sure if there are any new ways of scaring people, and have to add first time director, Michael Chaves does a decent job.

So, if you like horror, and is crave a continuation (do note the connection is not immediately obvious) of The Conjuring Universe, this movie is a good watch.

Actually, I would recommend going to the movies for this

Part of the fun of scary movies in the theater is the "shared" experience. It will add to the movie

Just don't expect to be wowed, like The Conjuring

So i guess it's sorta like an enjoyable movie nonetheless but the surprise/ scare factor is lacking. Conjuring was an enjoyable movie but I'd give my thumbs up to movies like Exorcism of Emily Rose that put fear in me even after the movie ended.
