i agree with you the pajero exceed is a proper japanese 4x4. the pajero sport however is an el cheapo.
people who thinks the pajero sport is good in handling, has not tried premium or better suvs. for a 150k range 4x4
do consider the chevrolet capitiva or the hyundai santa fe, much better idea. the new diesel unit from the hyundai is more efficient and fast

however if u can afford a rm280k for a pajero 3.8 v6
u could consider a volvo xc90 d5 2.4 diesel or a mazda cx-9 3.7 v6

volvo is a better known conti than the mitsubishi and the mazda is a much beautiful car than the pajero sport.

yes if ur budget permit u to go beyond 200k, but if u r restricted to only RM180k, then pajero sport is worth a look.

If u're mainly for city drive, and seldom go off road, forget about pajero sport, there are some more competent cars that are capable to perform d job better than pajero sport. But u r a contractor who is looking for a car that is tough, good at off-road capability and provide adequate comforts, then u may really consider it. Srsly, chevrolet capitiva or hyundai santa fe does not climb a hill/drive on a muddy road as good as pajero, my family has owned 3 generation of pajero, none of them disappoint us.

Hi guys. Didnt knew there was a 4x4 thread here. Guess i have been searching under the wrong category by brand tongue.gif

Triton 2.5 2010 model owner here (Solid white). Do you guys have any picture of your modded 4WD? Just to get some ideas how far people nowadays can go in modding their 4WD. I uses my car for mostly city and highway traveling interstate only (no masuk forest/mountains..) so i am looking for something a bit sporty approach. Am searching on what can be modded and where to do it. (I heard thailand dealers have good quality accessories stock and cheap prices?) Please share your creations rclxms.gif

Yeah agree with you. Hard to understand why my friend said smokelamp is nice. It looks like faded old rear lamp to me. No offence. Saw your post and your civic with the eagle eyes. Awesome ride dude. While it looks good on a civic, i wonder how will a 4WD Triton takes it? Eyra how much did your eagle eyes cost, roughly? Just doing some benchmarking against dealers in my state. (one quoted me RM1,400) From what i heard, Thailand is a heaven land for 4WD modding. Gonna scout it out.

Am quite interested to install an 18 inch to a Triton. From what my dealer quote was Dark chrome 18 inch rim - RM4k+, low profile tyre 4 X RM600+ each. Total cost will be RM6500+. LOL. (gonna scout Thailand for better offer first). The only concern now is:

1. Will the low profile tyre damage the rim easily for on-road traveling quicker than normal tyres?
2. Will the low profile tyre affect driving stability on city and highway driving?
Got any picture on how they look like please?  biggrin.gif

@Am
Is that an 17 inch rim? Not really expert about rims yet  tongue.gif I thought low profile tyre are thinner?
*
The price is almost the same, it cost around 1.3K for the Civic.

Thailand is a heaven, but Klang is a heaven on its own, go check Klang famous 4X4 shop, they are on of the best. Kinda expensive though..you can choose to pure off roader or VIP look.

If you are living near Thai then..but bear in mind..you need to go to at least Bangkok to get a great deal. Those near our border are not really big city..

1. For some reason..I think yes. Depends on the tyre sidewall strength. Coz pickup truck is heavier, thus more load on the sidewall, just dont hit a deep pothole la..
2. I think it will really not effect stability in medium to high speed, but in low speed, the sterring will be lot more lighter, thus making it easier to control and, easier to overcook any turn/manoeuvre because its high and have very high centre of gravity. Just need to get used to it though..

Look here..VIP Triton on 20" bling2 rim

Just simple extra exterior make up like the bug guard, side body clading and all those crappy plastic chrome covering.

Go for the heavier accessories like the suspension/spring/rims/tyres whhenever budget comes, no need to rush for now.

Heavier mods like chip tuning, engine modification just put on a hold because I'm also still in research for them, haha ! If want to buy in Thailand, go to Bangkok, southern area still expensive (though cheaper compared to Malaysia) because they know many Malaysians go shopping there.

All those winch, bullbars, tow bar with bumper are totally unneccessary for you as you said you are not going offroad. They just make your vehicle hundreds of kilos heavier which means bad FC and bad for tyres.

If have proper budget, go for street look rather than offroad look although my taste is the offroad monster brows.gif

Hi, Between Navara, Triton, & Isuzu, which is the best 2.5l double cab pickup? Can the triton 2.5 be fitted with VGT? saw some foreign models does have this to boost up 400nm. Also I would like to know which offers the best sitting position and width & confirm for the rear passenger. Hope fellow 4x4 owners can enlighten me on this. the 3.0 suggestion is off as the roadtax is high.

Er any one got information on Pajero I0 which i had asked earlier? Although this car is not a real monster, but looking at it's compact size it can really navigate well in city area without much hussle.

Cheers

Hi guys, need a suggestion on buying a 4X4. My choices are as below (suited to my budget tongue.gif)

1. Toyota Fortuner 2.5L Diesel
2. Ford Everest 3.0L Diesel
3. Nissan X-Trail 2.5L (not sure if this qualifies as a 4X4 though)

Any thoughts or comments? I read here that the hyundai santa fe is also a good choice. I am concerned however about the after sales support such as maintenance and spare parts availability.

Looking forward to your inputs and thoughts! smile.gif

im not bias here, but u may remove toyota fortuner 2.5L diesel, unless u r brand conscious person otherwise i dun see a reason why u should get d fortuner.

not to mention dated interior and production almost phase out. (it has been in d market since 2005-2006) it has relatively poor performance too. (102ps/260nm)

So that leaves me with the Ford and Nissan as options. Any comments on which is better?

Budget should be around rm110k (buying the car in labuan). Buying point is in the after sales support and spare parts availability.
Comfort and fuel consumption is also important.

I'm leaning more towards the ford but am worried about the spare parts and comfort (ford everest has leaf springs for its rear suspension).

Yeah. Navara have odd PCD. Rims plenty in Thailand but ain't worth it unless the trip is paid for.

Next option is a 25mm spacer / PCD adaptor. No ready made available. Have to custom made. Thickness is 1" and cost over 1.2k easily.

VGT only complicates the truck.

Unlike Toyota or Nissan, Mitsubishi have the most outdated engine designs ever (can't blame them because the company is doing badly financially over the past 10 years). Because of this, it is very simple to maintain. I rather have less electronics on a truck since I abused mine a lot - climbing on curbs, jumping off speed bumps and going off road to avoid traffic jams.

Power is limited by outdated engine design. Unless of course they put newer engine inside. The current 4D56 and family has been around for 30 years - commonly found on some Mitsubishi FUSO trucks. Newer 4M41 is what most people want - currently available in 3.2L only - expensive road tax for little gain in power.

For those using Vector on Triton, have u tried Setting 3? I was on Setting 4 for 3 months before going for Setting 5 for nearly a year but since decat, truck has lots of grunt even on Setting 3. Might save even more fuel.
