This site uses Amazon to checkout, they're like the third-party sellers at Amazon. Once I tried to buy from there but canceled before placing order, can't remember why.

he said i better to choose B rather than A. why ?

Mainly because of the price, they're usually cheaper. And their standard shipping is cheaper too that usually arrives in 5-7 days only (inclusive weekends).

Some UK release has better packaging, many prefers UK release for the X-Men Trilogy. Just read the reviews first as a guide, and decide what's best for you. The Matrix Trilogy for example, if you don't want the Animatrix and all the extra features, you can get the UK release which contain the movies only and dirt cheap compared to US.

Truly a reference BD. DTS-HDMA 192kHz..... Try it...

Really enveloping sound. Very good recording. Compared with the SACD and here is where the proof is that Blu Ray is indeed a future format for audio as well.

This is also why you would want good surrounds...
*
Gonna get this, thanks for the heads up bro.

I placed Wall-E into my shopping cart and did the Amazon checkout. Strange, they didn't charge me anything for shipping to Penang. Did the whole routine a 2nd time just to confirm and it's still 0.00 for shipping. I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and place the order though... sweat.gif
*
I think that's the reason I didn't proceed, they wasn't clear about the shipping part.

QUOTE(rthj @ Aug 4 2009, 01:45 PM)
anyone was in this scenario before?

order from amazon......2 titles in stock....1 title is scheduled to release in 1month's time....

choose 1 shipment...would they usually;

1. ship those in stock first?
2. wait for the the last one to be released before sending the whole batch?
*
Depends, if you choose one shipment, they can wait for all items to be available first. But sometimes they just split the shipment at no cost. You can se whether they split or not at the final page before placing order.

Bro, he didn't mean the normal Amazon checkout, this is from another site blu-rayboxsets.com which use Amazon to checkout.

Get it from Amazon UK. Its cheaper from there and its region free. It also includes a SACD. So in all 1 BD and 1 Hybrid SACD. Great buy.

Good strategy bro. Yes, I alwasy do that too, you'll get the price locked no matter when it will ship. biggrin.gif

Never trust Amazon for the item description, especially region coding. Refer to this site:

maryjane9996,

Malaysia is in the same region A as US, please refer to the first post of this thread for the map. So, whatever BD you see at Amazon US can be played by our local/Singapore/HK/Japan PS3/players without any region problem.

But UK and EU are region B, if you buy from Amazon UK/FR/DE please first check at http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b to see whether if it's region free or not.

Don't bitstream if you use PS3. The PS3 can't bitstream all lossless codecs even with HDMI. The only way to get lossless from PS3 is via HDMI that is set to PCM.

If you use optical from PS3, if you bitstream you'll get the core Dolby Digital track that is embedded in the Dolby TrueHD main track. Same with DTS-HD MA which you'll only get DTS 1.5mbps. Though if the track on the BD is only PCM 5.1, you'll only get stereo. That's why you can't set PCM via optical.

Almost all BD player can bitstream lossless audio, so if your receiver can decode all the lossless codecs, the best is to bitstream. But still HDMI is the only way for lossless regardless of any method or player. Except if you have multi-channel analogue outs (the player itself decodes and DAC).

Most titles from Warner defaults the audio to Dolby Digital, just use your remote to change the audio option to Dolby TrueHD. Transformers from Paramount.

Dolby TrueHD on Transformers is one of the best audio on BD, I still can't find the same deep LFE during the Ironhide flip on any DTS-HD MA yet. Other excellent Dolby TrueHD tracks can be heard on Kung Fu Panda, Cloverfield, Matrix trilogy, Celine Dion, Dave Matthews, NiN, John Mayer, etc. and even The Dark Knight.

Blu-ray isn't the mainstream format yet. I believe by next year all the new receiver models will have a dedicated blu-ray input.

think this was mentioned several times, about opened and/or used-looking BD from amazon UK.....please check if these were usually sold by Amazon's preferred merchant?

Added on August 5, 2009, 7:49 pmoh, the question earlier (from myself) about Amazon US' shipping pattern when there's item in the order which is not released yet. I have just tried an order, it actually gave me 2 shipping estimates, one for item in stock, one for the item not released yet. this is EVEN when i selected the minimum number of shipment (which usually means 1 combined).
*
That's what I was telling you about. Sometimes Amazon ship the available titles first even if you choose one shipping, but with no extra cost.

Lossless formats, DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD, after decoded by your player/receiver it changes to the same uncompressed linear PCM, which should mean they're all the same, the PCM you get on the early BDs are actually a direct transfer from the studio master without encoding.

But many has claimed they sounds different, my opinion on this is that Dolby and DTS labs has applied their own standards to the track, upping or lowering a few dBs in certain frequencies, here and there while maintaing the whole details. That's why you might hear the other format clearer, in fact it's just little bit louder.

The good old DTS/Dolby Digital also changes to linear PCM after decoding, but in this case the PCM source itself is not lossless, the original studio master is downscaled to lwer bitrate before being encoded.

QUOTE(mpyw @ Aug 6 2009, 07:59 AM)
PCM better than bitstream??

it's all depends on the decoding quality of your player (for PCM) compared to the decoder of your AVR (bitstream)....

the DAC is the utmost important thing in sound quality, then follow by the amplification quality/power....
*
Agreed. But I'm sure both Megatron and The Fallen know that. That's his point I think, he's saying his receiver is doing better decoding than PS3 (with PS3 the DAC & amplication still done by the receiver).

The original discussion was not comparing between bitstream and PCM though, but about the audio cdecs.
