Seems like Star Trek fever has hit Old Trafford. Looks okay after you get used to it, though Nike should have put more heads together and get a lil more creative than adding a black lining over last season's kit. Oh well, at least it looks better than Newcastle's away

If the tabloids are to be believed, we're closing in on completing the deal for Valencia. I'll keep my judgement on the player reserved until I've seen him play with the team (debut against Malaysia? slurp). A tad bit overpriced but Fergie obviously sees something in him since he's been linked with us for quite some time now, and Brucey must have given his thumbs up on the player. Our future no. 7? Time will tell. He did okay against us last season (missed a one-on-one though, praise the kid) and is similar to Nani I feel.

Blatter is another one of those execs who speak thru their arse without thinking. Blinkered, just like his boyfriend Platini.

QUOTE(Wan @ Jul 1 2009, 09:41 AM) A really top fullback cost around 18m before this season. But recently a fullback just below that level went for that much. And that's only the fullback. 16m would really only be around 12m mark in normal market. But even if they do rate him at that amount in normal circumstances, it's no different to what we paid for Carrick. It's a fair price IMO for an establish winger in the EPL. As for Benzema, it really get me excited.. although I don't really want a player of his calibre(top striker/potentially going to be) being bought. It's not that I don't want him but I feel with Roo and Berba as 1st choice we only need a backup/squad striker(a level below the top strikers). But I guess I won't mind if he does come. Nobody would refuse a top player right? Cue the "they've got a 30+ million pound striker on the bench! Not fair!" excuses. I do agree that Valencia is a tad bit overpriced, but its common knowledge around Europe that we're currently fat with cash thx to the Ronaldo sale and all our potential sellers are quoting marked up prices to milk us for all we can. Still, 16million for an Ecuadorian. Is that a record for them? Might still be time for more shopping, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the only player we get this summer.

Time to set our sights on another player then. I'm still having my fingers crossed that Real have not actually got him, but Benzema might be more interested in the project over there than the one here. His loss then. Let's throw in the remaining 80+ million into clearing out our fecking debt and give Welbeck and Macheda a chance (notice I didn't mention Manucho)

This kinda feels like the day we lost out on Torres. He could've been some player here, but too bad he's alot more fascinated with the galacticos gathering there in Madrid. I don't know if 30 million seems a fair price for him, but it was a figure we were willing to pay if you believe the tabloids. Guess it was Benzema's choice to make between us two. 200 million on 3 players. Economic crisis my arse

QUOTE(Wan @ Jul 2 2009, 01:16 AM) 30-35m pounds is pretty cheap for someone like him(reputation, potential to be one of the best striker). I now hope Valencia(the club) really went bankrupt. Wonder if Higuain is available now.. No point. Real are in for Villa as well, so we'll never win the battle for his signature. Seems like ppl are jumping on the bandwagon for the glamor and fame it carries. That said, the pressure must be immense in Madrid right now. If Barca somehow outperform them again I can imagine a lot of fingers will be pointed around.

Don't quite get the hype surrounding this Marcus Berg kid. A 23 year old doing well in an Under-21 tourney isn't that fascinating

QUOTE(Wan @ Jul 2 2009, 01:34 AM) There must at least be one that haven't gone busuk yet! I doubt they would go for Villa as well now that they have Benzema, with Kaka playing behind him.. If we don't win the CL this coming season, I hope Barca would win it. The final would be held at the Bernabeu right? Didn't you see the Man City formation posted earlier in this thread? Seems like thats where they are heading as well, so yeah, still space for more forwards lol.

QUOTE(leongtat @ Jul 2 2009, 09:48 AM) Guys simple....if you are the player.... England - 50% tax Spain - 23% tax which place will you go? Added on July 2, 2009, 9:52 amAnkara Gucu....is a club from turkey....they play in the same league as fernabache, besiktas, galatasary.... Ankara is capital for turkey....last season they were 13th in their turkish super league... Usually the wages demanded by the player is after tax, so its the club who has to bear the extra costs to meet that target rather than the player. So its the club who's at the loss here, and the implementation of the 50% tax is gonna cause foreign talents to choose the sunny weather of Spain.

Owen seems a decent acquisition provided he comes on a pay per play basis a la Saha. He used to be a class striker during his Pool days and always admired his finishing, but he's lost his touch severely since getting repeatedly injured. I'd much prefer Huntelaar, but if Owen doesn't mind sitting on the bench and becoming our Solksjaer then I'm all in. Added on July 3, 2009, 10:54 amQUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Jul 3 2009, 10:51 AM) Owen is better suited to United than Tevez *waiting to be flamed* 6+5? QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Jul 3 2009, 11:19 AM) Keep him away from Rooney. They both may be on the poker table a little too often. Considering how shit the both of them are at gambling, we should put Gill on the same table and win back the wages we paid them.

A plus would be that Owen has something to prove to Capello seeing that next year would be the World Cup. Rooney-Owen might just be the combo we and England would be using so a good chance for them to forge a deadly combination. A dozen goals for us would do him a world of good.

Seems like the Owen news are getting alot more credible by the day. Even soccernet is carrying a story on it. We all know he enjoyed his best vein of form wearing the Pool shirt, so I'm not too sure how many fans will take to this. Still, one goal against the Scousers will probably win them over. He could be our Ole.
