Still not recommended to go Sony centre to buy la. LOL. 50mm for me sometimes also too far. Use UWA for portraits. =p

just of a matter of preferences... coz my fren does bought his alpha at SS...
some people get the feeling ease of mind coz they get their stuff from the brand outlet itself..
not just from other retailer...
the exaggerated angle of view =  flex.gif
the only thing i hate with wide aperture opening is the shallow DOF... can easy OOF la..  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  doh.gif
around f2.8 slightly better la...
*
yes agree that it wil be easier to OOF...that is why i think 50mm is good for headshots and 85mm for full body smile.gif just me la maybe:)

Erm..could you explain abit more on how to manual focus to create that effect?  notworthy.gif
*
i dunno if i`m right or not la..he is trying to show the viewing angle will change as focal length changes but not the DOF.

In order to get the same size (gremline) using different focal length, u will need to move your cam.

try this:

using your kitlens at 18mm, fill the entire frame with "something"
then tune it to 24mm and fream the entire frame with "something"
do the same at 70mm ...

compare 3 pictures..and u will understand it:)

maybe dun need MF all the way... set up AF to "spot"....

if u wanna make the size same at all zoom... u need to move back/forward a bit..
it actually not exactly same size la.....

did u notice that when u MF... while u twist the focus ring.. the subject size is different?
i think dats why u can see from the sites photo some of em are OOF a bit...
but doesnt matter as they were comparing the size.. rite..?  rolleyes.gif
try it... i did that long time ago when i got my camera.. playing around with it..

ps: plis korek me if ayam rong keh!
*
I realized this on my tele lens where the front of lens will protrude during focusing....
dun remember that it changes on lens with internal focusing....need to try at home hahah (i hardly MF)

SpOOkY: Looking at the picture again, I think you got the wrong idea where to take the picture. I would go tele from then on. Notice the kids on the darker house? You can make it a documentary-style thing. And yes, give them some loose change!

Kids are usually camera-shy so you should consider yourself lucky that they swam over to pose!

In your second picture, the clouds are over-dominating. Also I'd rather zoom in on the boat.

An ultra-wide would work if you were looking at a scene that was far more plain than this one, e.g. plain green grass field and blue sky. Here, I just see a load of detail crammed down there. Get in on it!

Also, was it cloudy? The color processing seems to suggest so. So work with the mood of the clouds. Look for the villager who looks up, thinking "it's going to rain." Get a close shot of his/her face looking up. Or find someone bringing in clothes (also signalling rain coming.)

Yes most rotating front lenses are external focusers. However the Minolta/Sony 50mm F1.4's front does not rotate but it does have external focus.

they are freaking scary wei ...keep sticking around u for money and once u give then habis adi...the whole village were come to u hehe...okok get ur idea thanks...and the smallest change i have that time was USD1! its like RM3.50!!!!! smile.gif these kids arent shy at all...scary scary..

2nd pic, i do like the sky frankly, but yeah it makes the picture a bit flat...something like this perhaps? it gives better feeling i think...a feel of that place...erh duno if i managed to capture it smile.gif

To get the entire temple... take a few steps back? Or try to remember to catch it on your way out. Or just take it at a hard angle (a few steps forward, screw the pond) and shoot it in portrait mode.

I shoot bands performing, regularly. It is rare that the entire band will be in a pose, or they are too far apart. So I end up taking individual pictures, as that works much better. Same goes for travel - if you can't get everything, or getting everything means things become small and unnoticeable, just focus on the details.

So, if the temple wall has interesting engravings, and the minarets are also interesting, shoot both separately!

Finally, don't be afraid to break the 3:2 ratio if you need to.

Check out this dude's shots:

Note that there is a strong presence of geometry in his shots.

Somehow i find that my pictures captured around 8am~11am (under direct strong sunlight) turned out to be hazy and blurry and weird......i duno why but they just look horrible. I couldnt check it while i was there because the sun was too strong that i can barely view it on my LCD. I am suspecting is due to my cheapo 77mm filter...could it be? sigh..i deleted alot of pic

A kit lens is a lens that is supplied in the box with a body - a lot of cameras come with more premium lenses that have internal focus. Of course Malaysia has gotten different sets - the A700 kit lens was supposed to be the 16-105mm but it never sold here. Instead we get the 18-250mm or 18-70mm combo.
