Hello ppl, I recently (yesterday, LoL) rescued a very manja 5 months old female kitten (DSH) from the carpark of my condo. Skin and bones with old bite wounds. Brought to the vet today for deworming and stitching. No signs of fleas and mites.

My house already have a 4 months old Yorkshire Silky mix female pup that is very eager to play with the cat.
The cat current limit is 5cm distance from dog before she hiss.
Cat doesn't feel comfortable with the pups energy.

Any experience on how to introduce the cat to the dog?
or
Who wants to adopt manja kitten in Setapak, pls PM me. brows.gif

I am feeding the homeless kitten i adopted with raw meat & organs.
She is gobbling it like it's her last meal for a few day now.
She is even going after my dogs raw food now. sweat.gif
My dogs (corgi & Yorkshire mix) doesn't seem to mind on food sharing with their new sister. laugh.gif
It' took 3 days for them to be friends.

QUOTE(doro @ Oct 15 2009, 09:13 AM)
i have found an article about cat food in the internet, think we can share this thing together though....

What Is In Cat Food?
Use of corn, wheat, or soy which cause skin irritation, hair loss, fever, ear infections, kidney failure, liver failure. dental disease, obesity, chronic digestive problems, bloat, heart disease, and hyperthyroidism.

Because manufacturers need to ensure that dry foods have a long shelf life (typically 12 months) to remain edible through shipping and storage, fats used in pet foods are preserved with either synthetic or "natural" preservatives. Synthetic preservatives include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), propyl gallate, propylene glycol (also used as a less-toxic version of automotive antifreeze), and ethoxyquin.

Use of by-products. By-products are ingredients used which are not fit for human consumption. By-products are often floor sweepings from a rendering plant. "Animal by-product" is rendered product from animal tissues, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices." Pet food labels contain the words "meal" or "byproduct" on the ingredient label. Inedible byproducts such as bone, fat, heads, hair, feet and condemned offal are used in commercial pet food. These materials are sent to a rendering plant for processing into pet food products.

"Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. If the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat.

Rather than the wholesome pictures shown on the pet food packaging, rendering companies dispose of millions pounds of inedible waste each day including, heads, feet, stomachs, intestines, spinal cords, tails, restaurant grease, feathers, bones and dead or diseased animals rejected from slaughterhouses for use in manufacturing pet food. Amazingly, animals from research laboratories may be rendered into pet food as well.

Ol' Roy dog food, which is considered one of the poorest quality dog foods on the market, scored 5 out of 10.

The life span of your pet should be at least 20 years. Your pet's diet strongly influences your pet's life expectancy. Always look for a quality pet food which scores 10 out of 10.

Always try to adopt cats from animal shelters and rescuers first.
Unless you are looking for specific pure breed.

Since you have stated you are a complete noob at this.
Spend time in shelters with your sister, observe and ask the local volunteers regarding pet care.
Do some research on your own from there.

hello guys,

I brought my cat to vet yesterday cz i saw my cat behavior not normal then as always he is. The vet told me that my cat having a fever. the temp was quite high.

my question is..can i bath my cat? cz he dont like cold water so i have to bath him using air suam. afraid that air suam will make his fever worst. plz advice.
*
based on logic & common sense alone, do not bath the cat if it is sick.

^ ask your vet in regards of supplements.
There is no 1 size fits all.
My opinion on supplements is that it is quite unnecessary if you are feeding it properly, as in Ultra premium cat food.

Toothpaste is ok, also can get in most pet shops or vet.

QUOTE(izcuje @ Dec 4 2009, 06:58 PM)
greetings fellow catlovers...

tomorrow i'll be picking up a stray kitten from a friend somewhere across town.
This kitten has been orphaned at a very young age (from what my friend tells me, i'd say she's only about a month old or possibly less), therefore issues like litter training arise.
Right now my plan is to keep her in a cage first and have her get used to doing her business in the kitty litter first.
*
The 1st few days you will have to bear with the constant crying if it is separated for it's siblings.
Duration of this phase depends on the kitten's personality.
I can offer no advise on how to reduce this stress phase.

QUOTE(izcuje @ Dec 4 2009, 06:58 PM)
There is also the issue of having my cat (male, 1.5yrs of being an only child) adjusting to having a new baby sister.

I'd appreciate any advise from any of you catlovers out there regarding this.
Thanks in advance smile.gif

This will be a problem.
Your existing cat may not accept this new kitten invading it's territory.
Depends on your male cat's personalty, it may take some time.
Worse case is your male cat will tolerate the kitten's existence but won't allow it to share the same space with him.
Just be-careful the first few weeks, dont leave the kitten and the male cat together unsupervised.

kittens usually prefer wet over dry when they are young.
Good luck in trying to introduce new food types to your cat.

Once in a while i give my cat raw or cooked chicken breast (includes fat and skin) to make it fat if i find that it is getting skinny.

Out of curiosity, what dry food did you bought for you kitten and what age is your kitten now.

mm..i tried giving him RC,BW and sometimes i had to mix it a bit with friskies..hmm..even wet food also didn't finish...age,well around 3 mths i think..

try to feed it white chicken breast (include the skin and fat) from chinese (halal ones are too dry IMHO) chicken rice shop without any sauce.
Just tapau 5rm of meat without any rice.
RM5 will probably get you 2-3 servings for the kitten, fridge the leftover.
Don't make it think that it's going to get this meat all the time if you cannot afford it in the long run.

Raw boneless chicken meat is nice too if you got time to bulk purchase Raw chicken thighs from big super marts, wash, cut, pack into small tupperwares and put into freezer.
Don't worry about the bacteria as long as the meat is not spoiled, cats digest their food pretty fast compared to human's digestion system.
You will need to do your research before venturing into the world of RAW feeding.

Cats are a big protein consuming predator.

Live with a cat long enough, and you will gradually understand them. Each individual cat is a unique individual. Basic/common cat behaviors can be googled if you put effort in it.

Common things a cat would want when they meow :
1. Food
2. water
3. attention
4. just for fun

Hi Blasto...

You are most welcome.
I am sure that the cat looks funny without his whiskers.
Poor little fella.

Well... to keep a cat out of your house, you will need to cat proof it.
Meaning.... put wire mesh on your door grill or windows.
This will help from preventing cats going in or outside your house.
Litter train the cat to use a  sandbox.
Designate a Cat private area with a scratching pad and a soft clean comfy bed.
Allocate a high cabinet space for the cat to look down on human activities.

If you need to fatten up your cat.... just feed it food that is high in protein e.g. kitten food, boiled chicken meat, raw meat or wet food on a daily basis.  If you have enough budget feed your cat with Science AD which is full of nutrients.  Or you can feed your cat with vitamin B complex (buy from general hospitals) to boost up their appetite.  But REMEMBER, a fat cat will not be healthy and will have problems later in life.

I don't think any other cats will be afraid to see a fat cat  tongue.gif

The brand Evo is considered a super premium cat food.
Of course its safe to consume.
Unlike Orijen which is not 'Halal' as it contains wild boar meat.

How to samak all ringgit notes you received from unknown sources?

Practically why not use a scoop for the kibbles?
There is a reason why there is a clause : "Pet food only, Not for human consumption".
Most of the pet food ingredients do not meet human food quality standards and therefore sold to petfood manufacturers.
