how does it perform when it comes to 1080p MKV files? If it`s good, then it`s a very good alternative compared to NMT.. biggrin.gif

If it is priced around 1K, im thinking of getting it one smile.gif

a few small bad points that i see - no wifi, all the USB are at the back. no card reader like Acer Revo. no eSATA
i think price below 1500. I wonder how much to bump it up to 4gb memory

how much would it cost to add another 2GB DDR2 800 MHz memory to it lets say I buy from LYN and put it in myself?

dvd-rom consider good for me. i'm not playing the blu-ray disk because it's still expensive for me. i prefer more on hd-rip playback. post some review once you have testing the mkv 1080i/1080p playback on the system. need to know if the playback is ultra smooth or not. biggrin.gif

darn! no OS in the system. I will have to burn a Windows 7 later and load that. I got the white unit. At first I thought its plastic but its made of metal the whole casing.

There is a chance for dual monitor. Maybe its possible thru the HDMI and VGA. They also shipped me a HDMI to DVI converter. I will try plugging in a VGA and DVI monitor see if it display on both.

Pictures still uploading - darn flickr

order from overseas - rm1350

funny the pc came without the nvidia ion drivers loaded. i had to load in the drivers from the CD-ROM (duh! stupid me - of course the drivers not loaded since it doesnt comes with OS loaded)
another thing is no reset button. that means you need to use the on/off switch. it boots quite fast. i installed Windows 7RC.

do i have an option, like buy the set without hard disk and memory? I found one in ebay which it didn't come with hard disk and ram but comes with dvdrw drive, and sell at cheaper price. I'm planning to buy one, but hard disk and ram i buy locally. hmm.gif

nope i dont think so because i ask for mine to come with 4GB of RAM and they cant do it. Their production line is strictly adhering to the config as shown in page 1. can show links to that ebay offer?

btw can you recommend a player for 1080 MKV files? I tried using Media Player Classic and not really getting the results. Maybe its because I was playing it off an SD card as well. I am going to try with an external HDD later on

One weird thing - it wont boot with a thumbdrive in its USB slot. I mean it can boot from a thumbdrive but if you leave a thumbdrive in the USB slot (not for booting purposes), it wont boot up. I've set my boot device to only HDD and ODD.

Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/AsRock-ION-330-Mini-De...93%3A1|294%3A50

you try searching if above link doesn't work.

i recommends mpc homecinema

http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/view/781/2/
Click "without installer" link, select "I agree" and click continue

Once done, try setting up the player based on the topic http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/797530 so the onboard graphics do the encoding job.

I am using MPC HC - ok at least now i set it to EVR, the aspect ratio is correct but Im still not happy. Maybe its because of my slow LCD monitor. I will try it with my plasma TV later on. I dont know anything about all these video stuff so if there is a setting I should set it at let me know. For me this is too much of a hassle, I just use my WDTV to play all my movies

Some of the reviews says its silent but it is not. I can hear a slight humming sound from the fan. Its not noisy but I can still hear it in a quiet room. Maybe because my room is hot and the fan is at full speed

How's the gaming experience on this?
I haven't been playing much 'cause my system just can't support recent games.
Hoping to get an upgrade soon.

sorry i dont have any games to test with. i play only PS3 games.
btw my PS3 sound is routed to the Ion 330 then to the speakers and the sound is breaking up for some reason. I am installing sound drivers as I typed this. I hope it fixes that.

Added on July 23, 2009, 1:13 pmYes! rclxms.gif It works. The VIA drivers fixed the cracking sound. I better download and install the Nvidia drivers too.

Guys! Im a lousy reviewer. cry.gif I think if you want a more technical and indepth review, better do a google search for better ones online

Added on July 23, 2009, 3:27 pmLooks like I am still having some sound problems. Its not breaking up now but it doesnt sound right either. I plug my PS3 sound output to the Line In on the ION330. The guns and all just dont sound right. Like maybe no bass. I dont know what is wrong

Got straight from Taiwan. Not allow to say more haha. Warranty 11 months remaining. Reason: Still undecided if I should get acer revo instead. Still debating. Revo no optical out. That means dts and dd must pass thru hdmi only

ya correct. Problem is my receiver amp old model don't have hdmi

have you tried the acer revo? is it ok? what's your rating 1-10 for acer revo?(10 highest) . i'm still thinking
which is better. i'm planning to buy this monthend

I also still undecided which is better since now revo has dual core as well.. Good points going for the revo for me is got esata, more ram, licenced windows. Bad points - no optical out. No optical drive. Could possibly be hotter than asrock since only one fan.

do i have an option, like buy the set without hard disk and memory? I found one in ebay which it didn't come with hard disk and ram but comes with dvdrw drive, and sell at cheaper price. I'm planning to buy one, but hard disk and ram i buy locally. hmm.gif

Local distributor told me yes can buy with no hdd and ram

whats the point of the dvd drive. 90% of the people are using it for watching avi, mp4, mkv files that are downloaded.
even if they gave me a bluray drive i wont use it much since the media is soo expensive.

to install s/w i would burn the dvd iso to my usb thumb drive and install from it.

I second that. If i want a DVD player, i just buy an RM90 DVD player. But some people might want BluRay if they can afford it.

I've installed Windows 7 into my ATOM PC recently from the thumb drive. smile.gif Windows 7 really shines on a slow machine like the ATOM, it works much faster than VISTA and i still can enable Aero with good performance.

Yep. Windows 7 really shines in slow and old machines. If you have a modern dual core CPU say 2Ghz+ C2D or AMD X2, the speed difference between VISTA and Win7 is not so significant. But on a slow machine like ATOM, I have to disable Aero to get decent speed in VISTA because the crappy integrated Intel GMA GPU makes the Aero lags. With Win7, i can enable the fancy Aero without suffering from performance penalty and get decent speed.

Why dont u try to look at dell's new Inspiron Zino HD, using AMD's processor instead of Atom. Comes with dvd drive, and price about RM1k++
