Hmmm, I don't see that much love towards the GF1 compared when the PEN was first released...
Should I just keep my PEN? Hmmmmmmm... This post has been edited by ae8za: Sep 2 2009, 09:05 PM |

QUOTE(Babyripp @ Sep 8 2009, 02:01 AM) Hi, I bought my white e-p1 (kit lense) over 2 weeks ago. can barely afford it.. so I sold my sony alpha and all the accessories. One of the best decisions I've ever made. dslr is just too bulky and heavy for me plus I have a 2 yr old to chase around when traveling... but I can't live without the beautiful pictures so PEN is a great solution. I don't think that the Pancake is sold separately unless you buy it from another PEN user. At least not for the time being in Malaysia... Anyways was wondering, if I can get the pancake lense separately? Where can I get the filter? How bout the accessory.. like the jacket.. is it available in Malaysia? Sorry, I'm based in Ipoh so a bit clueless with camera shops in KL. Is the firmware upgrade available? How to upgrade? I've never upgraded a camera's firmware before.. is it like upgrading a mobile phone? thanks in advance UV filter sized 37mm and 40.5mm should be very easy to find anywhere as it's quite a standard size for video camera. Got my silver 40.5mm JVC Japan UV filter in KK, Sabah with ease. Other brands would be Marumi, Hakuba, Keep and Hoya... The jacket can be a problem as it's quite hard to get except Japan, even Mat Salleh from the States and Europe ordered it through Japan online store. You can try calling and ordering through Olympus Malaysia though... As for the camera firmware upgrade, do read you included manual. It's stated there and very easy to DIY too... |

Everytime I shoot indoor, I'll pair the PEN with my FL-36R connected with the DEMB Flip-It card.
Works really well for me and I can also comfortably use ISO 400 with 1/25 shutter speed at f/4... |

Although the FL-36R is quite big with the PEN, don't forget the advantages as it can swivel for light bouncing benefits...

QUOTE(Babyripp @ Sep 15 2009, 11:12 AM) cool! new firmware is out already.. I'm charging my battery.. guess have to wait till later today. Don't use cheap filter especially for holiday pics, bad flare and double images awaits you... I'm going on a >14day trip soon so I think I am really gonna need a spare battery. How much is it going for and where can I find it? I was in Penang last weekend at the camera shops around komtar area.. and bought 40.5 filter for 30 bucks.. erm.. last time I check in midvalley the filter is RM120 so.. what actually did I just get? some no brand kinda filter is it? Is it okay to used cheap filters? I still dunno what external flash I should get. Is FL-36R the smallest yet swivel-able option? Got my extra original battery for RM180 but in Singapore though... Updated my body and kitlense but don't notice any speed AF change, not to say it's a bad thing as previous AF speed doesn't bother me at all anyways... Added on September 15, 2009, 8:26 pm QUOTE(Babyripp @ Sep 15 2009, 05:28 PM) Now that I know that could happen.. ok.. must invest in a proper filter.. err... any recommendations? Can never go wrong with Heliopan or B+W UV filter... The thing is, you can only get the 40.5mm for the brands above in the States or UK, bugger! I'm not using any UV filter now until I can score on any of the two brands above... This post has been edited by ae8za: Sep 15 2009, 08:26 PM |

QUOTE(silverstan @ Oct 7 2009, 01:58 PM) me brought all my lenses, found that around 80% are using kit lens only. Since you're not using the 17mm that much, why not sell it to me? 40-150mm, 25mm, 17mm most of the time just sleeping in my bag So far I love using the 50 f/2 with the PEN. 17mm and 50mm should cover the low light prime range at least for me, kitlense being all rounder... So Mr silverstan, interested??? |

QUOTE(silverstan @ Oct 8 2009, 05:39 PM) Good for you then.. At first I don't really like the 17mm as it being less sharp, distortion and CA problem compared to the 14-42mm but it does shave off some of the weight when paired with the PEN. It also kinda look cool with the PEN and the Aki-Asahi leatherette. Not to mention the big (or not so big) aperture do come in handy at times... |

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Oct 15 2009, 10:52 PM) Eh, the two shop I mention located in Penang. Same lowest price everywhere... Until now, I still dunno what bag to buy.... I still using my belt pouch lol... no protection at all.... Single lens in Penang is RM2600... Sigh, can't seem to find the 17mm Pancake everywhere even if I'm willing to pay RM750-800 with the viewfinder. A shop actually offers me RM1000 new without the viewfinder... DUH! |

Really love the result of the Panasonic 20 f/1.7 with the PEN. It's miles better than the 17 f/2.8.
Too bad the design clashes with the PEN's retro style. Looks damn ugly like a big black mole. Sigh, still looking for my 17mm and viewfinder... |

QUOTE(chimera @ Oct 17 2009, 10:33 AM) i concur...white and silver version looks really good..GF1 looks so much better than E-P1...pls dont flame me E-P1 fans... No worrieslah... Open minded people only here... The GF1 is sooo much better than the LX3 but only if you pair it with the 20 f/1.7. The 14-45 kinda made the camera bulky... |
