Same predicament as me. I own a nissin but can't trigger it with Phottix Pt-04, so I buy a cheapo flash. A cybertik DF MZ45. I bought it around RM430 i think at Click n Snap Penang.

Btw your light stand, does it come with a spring or dampener?

I suggest...
ISO: >500
Shutter speed: >1/800 (can set to lower than 1/100 for panning depends on the downhill speed)
Aperture: max it to get the highest shutter speed since most of the time we want to freeze the action.
Set to burst mode(continuous shooting)

YES

If that case you might need to bump up the ISO even more.
Max i will use ISO800 but from past experience, noise will appear

I don't think flash is allowed during the event.
I'm planning to use 2 strobes, 430EX II as Key Light at 15-45 degree of the camera
and SB800 as Rim Light (1/3 of the Key Light power) and placed opposing the Key Light.
Im using this during training sessions only but not at the race/time trials.

Since you're going to use flash and strobe, i dun think you need to bump up the ISO alot.
Looks like you know quite well about lighting system, i'm still newbie in this field so no comment on your setup.
Do you plan to use multi-stroboscopic mode?

i prefer Canon version. tried the phottix, didn't like it. cheaper but the button doesn't feel that comfortable.
