Actually you need to know where the noise comes from, then only deal with it. That's how soundproofing works for me.

But based on my experience, road noise mainly flooring. Dampen the floor with STP Gold or equivalent materials.
Then apply some noise insulator, for a perfect noise barrier.

Brand doesn't really matter, provided they are not some cheapskate and unheard off brand. Brand like Dynamat, Silentcoat, old STPs and some others... is fine.
