tech3910, sorry, my point is that if nothing is wrong, then dont rush to update it.by the way, im fine with the 4870X2 on 1680x1050 res. I already having problems adjusting my eyes to a 22" not to say 24".

so far, i have not encounter any problem with games im running with and i prefer to format and then install the latest graphic drivers. A fresh window will make things easier to troubleshoot
*
actually from ccc9.1 onwards, there is some major performance boost. just saying u shud giv it a try.

& 4870x2 on 1680*1050 is actually kinda waste.................y not 24",? full HD.............. rclxms.gif
@ dis resolution, u can hardly tell the different comparing wit a single 4870.

You don't need hyper speed to run things in 2D mode like desktop or watching movies. That is why they made the card underclock itself. No point of getting extra speed, just heat and power consumption.
*
create underclock profile.

hi there guys. just wanna ask, is it possible to xfire a 4890 with other series like 4870x2 or the upcoming 4890x2? hmm.gif im sorry if this question had been asked b4, just that im still a newbie in multigpu stuffs..
*
it is not likely dat there will b a 4890x2 coz it consumes way too much power & it might not beat gtx295.

All expertise here, HD4870GS vs GTX260GS s216
Which one is better?
*
4870 1GB can trade blows with gtx260 216 wit gtx260 216 taking advantage in more of the games.
wit high AA, 4870 1GB has the edge.

4870 512MB does not compete here.
but again, results also depends on resolution.

i use both 4870 512 & 1GB.
the performance different is noticeable wen AA is crank up.

yup - more RAM on higher ranked GPU sure got some advantage wan la. smile.gif
*
if gamer dun mind AA, there is little if not no different between 1GB & 512 version.
but again, if user dun mind crank up AA much, better just go for gtx260.

4870 usually dun perform dat well once resolution goes above 1900 * 1200

You mean 4870 don't perform well at 1900x1200 or higher for the games you play? I only see this problem if the games are optimized for Nvidia hardware.
*
higher.
once goes beyond 1900 * 1200, performance decrease r significant.
depending on games also la.

just love this ati pwning nvidia so much. dont get me wrong, i use both brands, lol

ati radeon x1300 at work, geforce 8600gt at home. but nvidia is becoming a bit less innovative lately
*
i hav to giv credit to the G80 architecture.

i consider 8800GTX as 1 of the legendary.
i took ati quite a while to beat it.
even by 2day's standard, 8800gtx still rocks.

Hmm..didnt i read somewhere 4870x2 under load are somewhere at 100C? maybe time to H2O them.
*
it could happen, given the fact dat the malaysia weather is hot.

even those early batch 4870 on stock setting can go up to 95c just after 5 minutes of gaming.
i dun c y 4870x2 can't reach 100c.

@khoryw

given the age of the card, do some clean up & replace the thermal paste.

hi guys,

my 4850 starts artifacting and experience atimkdag issue when it reaches 80+ celsius, is this normal or is it time for RMA ?
*
did u OC?

under normal setting, it shud wistand up to 100+ C.

atimkdag issues can be cause by driver, i suggest u remove your current driver & install the latest driver + CCC.

no oc at all, standard powercolor 4850, furmark starts artifacting around 80-90 celsius.
*
try benchmarking like 3dmark or run some high demanding games.

furmark actually stresses ur GPU beyond what it is design for.

3dmark runs fine, scores 17000+. crysis would hit atimkdag if it runs with the case on after 5 minutes, without case on, lasts for 30minutes then it artifacts or lock up.
*
i think you shud RMA the card.

the problem dat u mention usually happens wen OC.
under stock setting, it shud run games for hours & hours without problem.

17000+?! Hmm... yesterday night I ran 3dmark with my 4890 (run half way fall asleep) I got only about 8000+.... wrong settings ah?!  rclxub.gif

may b different resolution, different setting.

btw, he also nvr mention which version of 3dmark.
QUOTE(nabelon @ Jun 7 2009, 10:29 PM)
The card is about 7 months old, regularly cleaned. Well, I've RMAed the card - now the painful part, life without a GC.

How long does it usually take to RMA ?
*
haha..........days 1 i hav a backup 8400GS, just in case of dis kind of scenario.

wen u RMA, i advice u best is to RMA directly to distributer, shops will tek months.
best case scenario: their technician check it within few days, u get a replacement for a new 1 if dey hav stock.
warranty can tek up to weeks or even months, here is my advice:

always keep track of wat is going on, ask dem things like hav dey check ur GC, hav dey verified the problem & wat decision dey gonna tek.
if really taking too long, suggest for a top up to new model.
