with average 4850 system just using total 250W MAX!
400W PSU is enough..

tear n wear - try get those with better component..
*
FYI, CM EXtreme Power 430W "Non-true power"

Time it with the efficiency, you won't get 400W for this PSU sweat.gif

if rated @ 300W also is just safe..
4850 takes 10A ~ 120W
remaining for the system another 100W etc..

I have no problem ventilating the heat outside from inside my room,
but they somehow manage to sneak back into the room... rclxub.gif

small investment only to ensure other components don't die mah biggrin.gif..actually gpu are able withstand temp above 100c+ as stated by 8tvt but not recommended in long term usage. used to own the 2900XT, really hot beast biggrin.gif maybe it's individual. had issue with no reference card. ended up rmaing into 4850's reference card then slap a after market cooler on it biggrin.gif...still alive and kicking after 1 year+ of usage biggrin.gif

all 4850 is single slot cooler which is 2 ugly 4 me laugh.gif that is why i take 4870 instead because dual slot rocks...looks like in few hours time i will officially announced that my 4870 is outdated that i want 2 roll over it at full speed with car tyres after the 5870 launch laugh.gif

Mine is a reference cooler thats prone to blow hot air into inside the case sad.gif
But I had already taken measures long ago when I modded my side panel by cutting out a huge gap (about20.5cm x 20.5cm)and fit one of them cooler master's 200mm 'MegaFlow 200 Transparent Silent Fan' to suck all them hot air out of the casing.. nod.gif
The case now looks industrial and unconventional/unorthodox, but I prefer practicality over aesthetics....

My Sapphire 4870 1/2GB DDR5 produces vertical lines and funny artifacts...All this happens while playing SF4 just this morning...

I decided to take out the card and reinsert it...no avail...it still has the lines during POST and distorts the Win logo when loading to windows...

So I pull it out and i felt like it was a memory issue...so I decided to disassemble the heatsink to have a peek of the GDDR5, to see from which company it came from...

BUT, I was shock when everything is revealed!!!!

Grey colored thermal paste???!!! THAT Muchhh???!!!!

Attached Image

Who were they hiring at the Sapphire factory in China???? Chun Li????
Attached Image

Or did Chun Li had PMS that day at work???
Attached Image

Before I jump to any conclusion, I would like to ask Sapphire 4800 series owner particularly the 4870 models, who had ever open up their heatsink,

Does your Thermal Grease grey in color???? whistling.gif

Wow thats a lot of paste smeared messily!
Probably "Chun Li" applied a big blob of paste in the factory and resulted the paste to get smeared around, then assisted by escaping trap air bubbles/pockets and uneven thickness of paste application.
All u need is a rice grain worth of good thermal paste, spread thinly and evenly.

Yes its gray, because it's consisted of clay-based(silicon) compound for non-conducting/insulating purpose. There are white paste...silicon and metallic(blue-ish) based paste which has excellent thermal-conductivity to transfer heat away from the proc to the heatsink, etc.

Xigmatek PTI-G3801 Silicon Thermal Grease is GRAY
Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400 - RoHS RG-TF4-TGU1-GP is GRAY
Cooler Master Ice Fusion is WHITE
etc...
