Errr...ok. Just post it up. Although when it comes to reduction of bodyfat, that is something that is a bit out of my league since I haven't read up on it much.

The most I understand about reducing BF is that you would need to do major cardio that literally exercises your entire body. Plus, you probably have to go on a steaming food diet and eat very healthy fats in the portion that the fitness buffs are eating. Also, you may need the help of supplements to enhance the fat burning process just to drop the BF.

I can take a look at your diet but your best bet would be either tengster or Syd G or pizzaboy. I've not reached the point where I can focus on BF yet. Dropping kilos is easier than body fat.

Added on May 19, 2009, 10:33 pmHmm...actually, you can also ask iamyuanwu. I remembered him checking out a diet on T-mag.com which reduces your BF. Just that that diet regime involves serious fitness program (not for those who are beginners) and some serious dietary habits (basically go carb-less drastically). You'll get your muscles to show up but you won't be able to sustain that kind of diet for long as it's not recommended.

Plus, you also need to be in a clean bill of health if you want to follow that diet.

Added on May 19, 2009, 10:35 pmmofonyx may be another person to check.

All these names I've quoted are generally ok with people asking them for tips. Some of the others are a bit sarcastic and have a certain ego to them that not sure whether it's ok to ask or not.

Do you also have a Member's Journal up? I would suggest you put one up and see what the others recommend. Although there are a lot of people who just give one-liners without explaination. The journal would help though, to keep you focus.

I do have a journal here but I got lazy with updating it. tongue.gif

ok here goes.

drop the biceps cur and tricep 'lifts' and crunches. they dont burn enough calories and you wont get huge guns or six pack abs just by doing them. u can do wonders even with bodyweights so start doing compound movements (squats & pushups are some of them, you're on the right track). since u hv dumbbells, try to experiment with weighted lunges, cleans, swings etc
This is the weightlifting I usually do at gym (Not all I one day of course)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Besides that, on tues and thursday I did muay thai for 1hr++
At home I have 5lbs dumbbell and usually I do lunges and Overhead Dumbbell Extensions with it.

If I want to cut down my body fats, do I lift heavier?

Ps: Any tricks to make doing squats easier ah? tongue.gif

QUOTE(myremi @ May 21 2009, 10:52 AM)
Hmm.... ok, with wanting to drop the BF down, we may have to ask for help.

Syd G, tengster : can you guys help? I'm going by the basis that to drop BF means dropping carbo from the diet for a few weeks?

Anyway, dissection of the diet :

You have 2 breakfast meals in the morning? Try to space your meals 2-3 hours between each other and your pre-workout snack at least 45 - 60 min before your workout.

Your lunch meals are ok but I would suggest that when you do a sandwich, either put cheese or ham or tuna but not cheese all the time. Change your potato to sweet potato as it's less calories/carbs. Use wholewheat pasta or non-wheat pasta or try to avoid it altogether. Hmm...watch out for the oils + sugar in pesto sauce.

Dinner : Mee sua - watch out for the alcohol inside. Instant noodles is a big no-no. tongue.gif Too much carbs. Eat cold cut meats e.g. cold boiled chicken - stick them into the fridge. Or raw veggies. No more cornflakes - switch to oats or weetabix or muesli.

I'm a big advocate of meal preparation at home. If you can prepare food from home, you can see a lot of difference in your weight / BF within a week. If you wanted more tips on food preparation at home, speak to iamyuanwu and mofonyx. iamyuanwu prepared meals while working out in a gym as a student. mofonyx is a student currently who works out.
*
aha, I'm greedy, I want to drink milk and also coffee for breakfast but not both at 1 go so milk I had it at home and coffee at work. That's why I divide my breakfast into 2. tongue.gif

Cheese, sweet potato, pasta.. NOTED!
I don't put much pesto sauce, it's just to give a little flavour to the pasta cause I don't put salt or anything in it.

Alcohol in mee sua?? Instant noodles is bila malas la.. laugh.gif 1 packet of 5 can usually last me 2-3 month.
Cold cut meat as in I boiled the chicken in advance and stick them into the fridge and just eat it like that? Ohh.. never thought of that...

All my food is prepared from home. biggrin.gif Except for the lui cha of course.
I'm still looking for other easy to prepare variety.
What I do now is I prepared everything the night before, then the next day put everything in aluminium foil and steam. Easier to wash pots laugh.gif and food stays warm till lunch.

do you rest in-between sets? if you're planning to lose weight, dont wink.gif how to make squats easier? more squats. include 45mins cardio after weight lift (jog, not walk) to burn more cals.

whats ur stats anyway
*
I rest for around 30s btwn sets. more squats.. huhuhu..

I don't plan to lose weight but body fat.
Female, 168cm, 60kg, bf:23.5%.
Target is 21% in 1 month.

QUOTE(myremi @ May 21 2009, 01:27 PM)
Agree about the weekend eats. Forgot that he put jam there. JAM!!!

But the rest of the week, I'm not sure. He might have to do a calorie balance of what he's eating and what are his calories he's burning off at the gym. Work hard at the gym and eat less carbs to burn off the BF. Once the BF reaches target, he can eat some more carbs i.e. a bit at a time until his BF is stabilize.

neuroticmind : Refer above. You'll need a food journal for the first few weeks. The balance should be :

Total Calories from Food = Total Calories burnt from exercise (either from machine or from calculator online for approximation. Biggest test is if you can drop BF%. Then you know your food calories is less than calories burnt from exercise)

JAM!!! JAM!!!! JAM IZZZ BADZZZZ!!! No more JAMM!!

One source I read said to drink coffee just before a workout.

Foochow Mee Sua : they usually add in some red wine into it. If you don't, that's good. I'm trying out brown rice mee sua to see if any impact to weight loss. However, am limiting my carbs so probably will only take it for dinner.

Coldcut meat : Hmm...you could do sesame chicken. Just reduce the amount of sesame oil but rub it all over the chicken (maybe 1/2 tablespoon for complete chicken?) and leave it over night. Taste yummy. You can add in a dash of Chinese wine too. Rub both ingredients after chicken is cooked and cooled. After the rub, put it into the fridge. This is a Chinese dish. Another way is to add in salt but not a good idea if you have heart problems.

Buy a foodjar if you want to keep food warm. Although, finding the bento ones isn't exactly that easy. Hmm....I think Isetan has some but probably not cheap. Steaming in aluminium foil? Adoi.... I would grill stuff with aluminium foil lol! So you can make a basket out of aluminium foil for tapau then?  brows.gif
OK OK NO MORE JAM!!! laugh.gif I'll replace with peanut butter..

Thanks for the chicken recipe.. Will try it next week.. thumbup.gif

I still haven't found one I'm satisfied with. Food jar I mean.
I have a lot of containers though..
Steaming is easier cos no need jaga ma.. I wake up, put the food to steam, then go mandi.
By the time I'm ready to go, food is cooked. Ambik taruh dalam container terus jalan. laugh.gif

neuroticmind,
I'm proud that ur not obsessed with numbers. Here's a bad news - it's hard to get from 23% to 21% cause your body doesnt really want to lose the last 5kg or so. Since you're a girl it's even more important for you to do more cardio. Run run run like the wind.

I'd ask you to stay away from peanut butter. Hydrogenated vege oil. urgh
*
No peanut butter? then I don't know what else to spread on my bread.

myremi, any suggestion? I know sure kaya also cannot right? tongue.gif

bread spread? marmite tongue.gif . actually you can just follow these rules and decide

things that are absolutely no-no:
1) modified vege oil / partially hydrogenated oil - this includes most peanut butter and margarine
2) high fructose corn syrup - i dont think most msian products carry them so you'll be fine

you're better off with jam or kaya, actually. not great for weight loss tho.
*
ah, marmite. good suggestion.
if i don't like it on my bread, can use it to cook marmite chicken. laugh.gif

QUOTE(myremi @ May 23 2009, 01:51 PM)
Kaya is bad. For half a small pot of kaya, there's 10 eggs in there and goodness knows how much sugar.

Although, an alternative would be Smucker's Sugar Free Jam or a Diabetic Jam. I'm not sure how they taste like and yeah, they would use artificial sugar. As long as the intake is low on artificial sugar, you should be alrite.

I was reading a post online about the safety of aspartame yesterday. You can have a look :

Added on May 23, 2009, 1:59 pmneuroticmind : One thing also - which of your will is stronger?

The will to lose weight or the will to eat sweet food?

I've tried Diabetic Jam before. Marmalade. blergh.. so bitter.. cause of the orange peel..
heh, of cos lose body fat. tongue.gif

edit: i'd rather take real sugar or no sugar at all than artificial lor..

starting V2 with a complete overview of proper dieting is going to be one hell of a pain to just right.

I'll see what I can do next week. Off for a week holiday during Gawai hols since factory is close.

neuroticmind : Oh, I took a look at some shops for Bento containers. I bought it from Parkson last Friday night. It was either for RM114 or RM144 with a free travel mug (Thermos brand).

http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2009-06D...-JBA-1801GY.htm

Comes with 3 containers and a chopstick.

Added on May 25, 2009, 11:16 amNote : The volume is slightly more than what is the recommended intake for ladies though. So I use the top jar for my breakfast meal and the other 2 for my lunch. I don't fill up the biggest jar completely.
*
So how was it? The containers? Might go survey around Parkson, Carefour & Jusco this weekend. brows.gif

I took a pic of my lunch today. Looks funny with the aluminium foil.. laugh.gif

Anyway, my diet today:
0830: 2 wholewheat bun from Tesco ( a lil bit salty though)
1200: 1/2 potato, chicken breast (boiled), blanched vege (celery, brocolli & tomato) in aluminium foil of cos. laugh.gif
1545: 1 tomato & 1 green apple
1815: 1 banana
2000: 1 hardboiled egg, 2 yapun sweet potatoes (small bitter gourd size) & 1 glass milk
2300: 1 glass milk (confirm will be hungry)

did squats today till the screws in my knees become loose.. Syg G is right, the more I do, the easier it gets.

check with iamyuanwu how he manage meals while in college. i remember him saying that he didn't do much cooking in college and he was already working out in a gym then.

clarkfann : OK, you're going to have to take a serious step back and really look at yourself. You have lost so much weight that you're now a sweet pretty and beautiful young lady.

If you drop another 2 kg, you're going to look like a skeleton. You want that?!?

If you want your 6-pack, then you're going to see that scale move but your BF % will drop.

Also, don't forget. You have SPM to get through this year.

Take it easy, relax. And I think I would hide that scale from you for the next 2 weeks of school holidays. Take a break lah.
*
went grocery shopping at jusco just now and saw a few of those skeletons. aside from the outfit, skin colour and no big belly, could have mistaken them for those starving african kids shown in tv.

@ Clarkfann: You gotta stop worrying about your weight. Like seriously. No offence but it's kinda annoying with you obsessing wanting to get under 50kg. You're not fat like you used to. In fact you look just fine although you need to toned up to look mighty fine. And you KNOW when you toned up you'll most prolly add extra numbers on the scale.
Which do you want? hot toned body or slim skeletal soft body? I hope you pick the former.
Why not instead obsessing about being <50kg, you target to get your bf% lower?

170cm weight 85.

Change my diet? Like how?
Dinner usually, small portion of rice, more on vege and soups. And some fish.
*
more balanced meal for breakfast and lunch..
what you're having now is too little, not balance, that's mostly your energy source for day time...

wholemeal bread, milk, maybe add in an apple or a banana for breakfast.
what you have for dinner now make it same for lunch... veges and meat.. chicken/fish, beef..
dinner is fine i guess, but try eat by 7pm if on non workout days..
try avoid stir fry, deep fried and go for steamed, boiled meat and veges more...

remember, even if you eat healthy as in all boiled /steamed, if calorie in > calorie out then will still put on weight.
go slowly, don't starve yourself for fast results, cause usually when you go back to eating normal you gain 2 times more than what you lose.

lose weight slowly and when reach target weight, maintain... wink.gif

I eat bread for lunch because i don't like wasting time ordering food , and furthermore is Malay Cuisine ( the place i work only have malay food), which is usually sweeter and saltier.

Dinner i usually eat at home, which is of course healthier.
