of course all of them are related.. but it's the main focus that can cause the prob..

normally at first stage i'll make sure my ram is capable of doing certain speed/timing with accurate voltage.. i'll make it as stable as stock speed..

then only play with HTT and other voltages..

u need to understand ur setup.. especially the mobo.. some not convenience with certain HTT n dividers.. no one can tell unless u tried..

for the second step i'll push the mobo to the limit..
with all the variables.. only then can seek the true potential of ur proc..

if some how or rather u stuck to which part to tweak and boost the performance.. just check on the list below sort with priority:
(as some cpu came with different mul n potential)
- CPU frequency
- IMC frequency
- Memory frequency
- HT Link frequency
- HTT frequency

just remember that HTT Link Freq =< NB Freq

u will find the arts where the high value/clock in amd gain no benefit later..
amd created their proc for being efficient.. high clock (not cpu clock) doesn't mean good..

Considering dual channel gives a negligible performance boost, is it ok for me to get 2gb + 1gb RAM? Does it impair overclocking (the CPU)performance?

u got the answer..

sometimes when u leave the advance ram timing in auto.. it will tight the timing..
thus can caused stability prob..
u need to manually set them better..

normally check the
PL
TRFC

u need to peek the memset..
timing depends on ram..
PL 10-15
TRFC 45-65

tight it more better..

JEDEC timing is the standard timing set by the JEDEC.
While the EPP timing is the enhance performance setting that the manufacturer had tested can be use on that particular ram..
U want better timing use the EPP mode

Depends on the mobo, some mobo u can just select the EPP setting n everything will be done for u like my M DKA790GX Platinum..
But some mobo u can review the timing then u have to set it manually ah..
Other things to ensure ram stability is not to set the timing too tight ah..
