I finally got to try the A330 for myself and this is what I found:

- I really, really bloody hate the new grip!!!!

I don't know how to hold it and have my finger placed comfortably on the shutter release and get to access the dial with ease.

Once I even ended up switching off the cam instead of turning the dial. Hmph!

But it's really light and small even with the new kitlens on. I detached the 18-55mm kitlens and it feels so plasticky - almost like a toy!

So it's official, the A330 are really for the PnS users who wants to upgrade.

Do you mind what other people say? Or are you one to do you own research and choose based on your own needs and situation?

There's plenty of good pictures here taken with all ranges of the Sony Alpha so you decide. And by the way, when they say Sony Alpha is no good did they actually provide you facts on why they think it is no good or is it the 'I heard Sony ah... not very good one! Better get C or N' type of comment.

hmm... so TCs are better on primes... yea.. what i've learned so far is that zoom lenses are naturally softer than primes... so is it safe to say... getting a prime 200mm (dunno got such lens or not) and coupling it with a 2x tc to reach 400mm is better than getting a 70-400mm lens?

I would not approve of that train of thought. I mean primes and zooms each have their own usage. With a prime you do get sharper images and distortions and CA are kept to a minimum but there are times when a prime just won't be the best solution.

Taking the above scenario for example. And yes there is such thing as a 200mm prime lens. With the 200mm prime you get a 200mm angle of view only. With a TC you get a 400mm angle of view. There's no way to break away from that with a prime and I don't think zooming with your legs apply all that well to that particular focal length.

With a 70-400mm zoom, however, it gives you much more flexibility in terms of composing your photo. It's much more useful when you are in situations where you need to vary your focal lengths. Example in fashion shoots.

So choose your lenses depending on what kind of situation and the type of pictures that you take more often. It doesn't mean that if you have a whole line-up of just primes, you will get better pictures than one with a line up of zooms.

Hmm.... I dunno... checking the sample images taken by users of the 70-400mm in the dyxum forums I don't see such softness nor such bad bokeh examples...

Maybe we need more sample pics coz I see all them images in dyxum are tack sharp!

well that one looks nice.. nice bokeh imo

When talking about bokeh, there's a lot of factor that will influence how the bokeh will turn out. The background and the object in the background and the direction of lights and reflections and the distance between the background and the camera will all be factors in how bokeh turns out.

Thus it cannot be guaranteed that if any other brand of lens is used to take the same bird shot that you said had weird bokeh will give you any better results.

All lenses are capable of producing bad or weird bokeh if the situation and factors come together in a specific manner. You can only really say that a lens produces bad bokeh if it consistently turns out bokeh that are bad under differing conditions.
