but prime says in the beginning of the movie that they dont trust the humans enough to give them knowledge of cybertron tech.
one minute say cannot, another minute say can.. doh.gif

*
in the novel they shared some intel about weakspots and also armour, and a few pointers how to make the human artilleray better at attacking decepticons, there were 2 scientists that were using a mini emp gun to sting macerator, that rendered his guns useless but this emp stings have to be administered at close range. They used alot of prototype guns and stuffs on decepticons in Transformers: The veiled threat, the decepticons even made Optimus get washed away by Angel Falls. However even in the novel, the autobots never revealed how their weapon system functioned, they just say they have the ability to generate unlimited amount of firepower at a given time, the guy in the movie specifically asked about how the weapon system worked and optimus was reluctant to share knowledge about it. I think, sector seven knows all this stuff but thanks to simmons, all their research is in his hands only so NEST has to start everything from scratch.

Okay, here's my jillion dollar question;

What happened to Soundwave after the rally call for the decepticons?
*
he just stayed on the US military satellite, he must have left with Megatron and Starscream, they might make this a fact on the next novel just what they did with Barricade's disappearance from the first movie.

QUOTE(n00b13 @ Jun 28 2009, 04:39 PM)
I mentioned this in my review on my blog, but I'm raising it here, just to see what you guys think.

This is not a Transformers movie.

Remember Transformers? G1, or Beast Wars, or Armada, or any of the cartoons? Who were the characters? The robots. Who were the heroes? Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, etc. Who were the villains? Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, etc.

Who's the hero of this movie? Shia LaBeouf. Who is Bumblebee? He's the hero's car. Who is Megatron? Second fiddle to another robot. Who is Starscream? A robot who has a little more screen time than the others. Who is Optimus Prime? A hunk of metal for LaBeouf to stick a Plot Device into.

The robots are not characters. They're MacGuffins.

So no, this is not a Transformers movie. This is a Shia-LaBeouf-Megan-Fox-and-some-giant-robots movie.

And because I realized this, I managed to enjoy it.  biggrin.gif
*
i disagree, its still transformers movie, there are so many versions of the story, even the comic books, novels and cartoon series depict different settings, different characters, different timeline. This transformers franchise is loosely based on all the prior works, the problem with transformers even before the movie adaptation is because of different authors penning different takes on the story, take Transformers: The War Within for example it talks about how optimus as a researcher being given the title prime by the council, and him disputing that there is no sub conscious called Prime in their mainframe, he even asks all the autobots to evacuate cybertron calling the war not worth fighting for, making the de facto leader grimlock angry. In the series its way different as after optimus dies, grimlock the leader of the dinobots control the autobots there. In order to fully understand a movie which is based on all this different storyline is something hard to do, and if you were to make a remake of an already established series isnt that repetition? whats the fun in that? didnt we see that movie in the 80ies?. Ermm The fallen has already been established as the first decepticon ever made, read the novels, he was even instrumental in taking over Cybertron when Optimus and Megatron went missing via the Space Bridge freak accident, Jetfire was in charge of the autobots then.

Kinda too late for that, but thanks anyhow.
Oh. Makes sense now. Still, the sight of ungodly amount of American forces on foreign land practically blowing up stuff and destroying things does send a worrying message. It's like they're saying,"Mess with America, get screwed sideways".
*
isnt that what they are doing in Iran and Afghan in the war lol? people keep forgetting its an american movie plus MB wouldnt have gotten those shots with military gear if not for the US military willingness to contribute for some promotional purposes through Bay's movies. If they shot in Malaysia, and the Malaysian military gave their equipment as props wouldnt that say something along the lines of "mess with Malaysia get screwed sideways?" on second thought, with Malaysian jets and choppers going down for mysterious reasons i doubt Bay would ever use any of our gear tongue.gif

QUOTE(n00b13 @ Jun 28 2009, 08:12 PM)
And in all of them, the robots are the main characters. Even Spike Witwicky, who was in the original '80s cartoon, was only a minor character. It was the robots whose stories we followed, who had personalities, who had character, and whom the audience cared about.
*
Spike wasnt a minor character mate, remember bumblebee begged his family to fix him up and also optimus passed him the creation matrix which he gave life to Jetfire, there is so many instances where Buster helped the autobots and vice versa especially his dad Sparkplug who also managed to modify the autobots to process raw fuel as energy at the absence of energon, i feel that the novels, comic books and the series has given me an in depth information about the autobots and the decepticons not to mention the predacons aswell, some of us dont need repetition again like i stressed who would want to watch something repetitive?

QUOTE(n00b13 @ Jun 28 2009, 08:12 PM)
But Michael Bay doesn't think so. He did not give personalities to any of the robots. He barely allocated enough screen time to develop them. Bumblebee has no voice. Megatron is no longer the Decepticon leader. Ironhide gets barely 2 lines of dialogue. Every other robot is nothing more than a background special effect.
*
Ermm, well i dont know this is very subjective i can see all the facial expression even on the first movie especially optimus's worried face, in one scene where he asks sam to come down while looking for the glasses. Bumblebee can speak at the end of the movie he says, "permission to speak sir,i wish to stay with the boy", in the second movie Mikaela asks Sam if Bumblebee's voice is acting up again. Even in the Transformer: The War Within its been revealed that The fallen is the bad ass,the first bad ass decepticon, dont worry that doesnt mean Megatron is just a protege only, he is the current leader anyways. Ermm didnt Ironhide speak in all shots involving him? Well if there are 20 robots fighting each other, its quite hard to give each and everyone of em screen time to intro themselves,IMHO thats what the supplementary novels and past work like series and comic books are for.

QUOTE(n00b13 @ Jun 28 2009, 08:12 PM)
That's why there are so many dumb robots, like Frenzy from the first movie, or the Doctor from this one, or Wheelie, or the Pretender chick. They're not cool, nobody cares about them, nobody wanted to see them, and they don't even make good toys. And that's why Wheelie and the Twins disappear so suddenly. They may be annoying, but we've been following them for the entire second act - but Bay just doesn't care about them. On the other hand, he makes sure to show us that Leo is okay at the end of the movie.
*
Ermm Frenzy has been around since G1 la brader, read the Marvel Transformers, Buster defeats him with a robot suit made by ironhide. Doctor is not dumb he is just merely a tool, more like a ratchet on the decepticon side but smaller. Well choices in a movie is up to the screen script writers, i felt those scenes were nice but you feel otherwise so its truly subjective.

QUOTE(n00b13 @ Jun 28 2009, 08:12 PM)
Look at the robots' faces. Every one of them. They're incapable of displaying emotion. We can't tell if they're smiling, or angry, or scared, or worried. They're not characters. They're...
...well, a movie can have more than one MacGuffin.  tongue.gif  But perhaps MacGuffin isn't the right term to describe them. How about... they're plot devices.

Not characters.
*
Ermm, not really, dont agree with your notion that they dont have facial expression remember,in the tv series its 2D if there are no expressions in 3D,then there are relatively no expression in 2D. Theres a high detail of expression on all the main characters especially Optimus,Bumblebee,Megatron,Starscream,The twins and all of em. I gave one example above, there are many scenes that potray facial expression but again they are relatively alien robots so i dont think its okay for us to assume they would also developed a set of non verbal expression? hell that'll make them human like no?

I see noob13 is criticizing the movie more than praising it despite the 3 stars. biggrin.gif

lol he even made it sound convincing that Buster Witwicky is just a minor character and has no significant value in the old cartoon series, despite me proving him otherwise.

Optimus is after all a prime which is not weak in the cybertronian language. He has gotten stronger in the past years,Ironhide modified all his weaponary. Read Transformers: The veiled threat. and dude its not Blackout its grindor, two different bots here man.

sigh, watch again the first movie, after fighting with Barricade, Barricade just pengsan like that, there were sparks coming out of Barricade. I dont get why people expect autobots to be loser-bots all the time, sigh.

theres a reason why its called a prequel novel? cmon its not only transformers that work this way,its 2 and half hours taakan the part where optimus gets an upgrade or how Simmons steal all the documents from sector 7 be shown too? in that sense the movie will be more than 4 hours d. Here's something to refresh your memory:

haha , come to think of it . The show really confused me . LOL

In some parts of the comedy , I didnt really laugh , although the whole cinema laughed , maybe the jokes doesnt suit me.( or is it pure Lame?)

I taught that the decepticons were wayyyyy stronger . To my surprise , dunno how Optimus and Bumble Bee were so strong.

Bout those mistakes I just read , lol . Really , the scenes was so fast and confusing that I refused to think and just really try to enjoy the effects and the coolness of the show. But then , the climax was just bad , nothing seems to be right , too many errors every here and there.

Worse of all , Optimus so easily took down The Fallen --> that was the last battle.. omg..........
*
this is a classic example of,autobot are loser-bots and decepticons are god like. I'm guessing you never really followed the series, novels or the comic books. Look up Grimlock,Defensor,Ironhide and Bumblebee in those literature you'll see how strong they are. Even in the first movie Bumblebee took down barricade effortlessly. And the Fallen cmon,he is so freaking old and did mention he can only be defeated by a prime so theres no surprise there plus, the prime plus jetfire combo really make him stronger what, sigh if you failed to see all this and factor all this togather you'll forever think decepticons are stronger. heres a scenario if autobots are forever loser bots how could the war in cybertron last for ages? wouldnt the decepticon win the war and theres no more story after that? The whole point of this franchise is depicting 2 races of robots of equal strength fighting on a war for eons.

Its Bay fault. He made the auto bots looks cool while deceptions looks bad ass and transform from huge and ugly vehicles except the R8.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

We repeatedly answered this many times before, soo im assuming you didnt watch the first movie or did not pay attention to it, every technology by products be it cars, electronic gadgets, photostat machines, computers etc etc were made mimicking NBE-1 aka Megatron so his consciousness or his schematics were transfered unknowingly to all these machines.

Soundwave is the communication experts in decepticons.. also needs to make physical contact aka raba raba with the satellite to grab/hack information of out it.  Why can't he simply use his "skills" to intercept whatever signals coming into/out of the satellite without touching that satellite. Even human hacker can "hack" wirelessly. fail!
*
ermm you do know that, the satellite he hacked is not a normal satellite with no security encryption. Unless you physically hack it theres no way you'd crack the security,if it just intercepts the signal it'll be unable to decipher it as he is not familiar with the way the signal is synthesized, probably you'd be better off happily watching eagle eye.

He's supposed to be a super mega ultra advance decepticon comm expert.
*
yeah he still is, even in cybertron he is super advanced, but again landing firmly on reality if you were to invade an alien planet,no matter how backwater their technology is you'd have to physically study it in order to mimic or to influence it to do your bidding. Remember even in the first movie, both frenzy and Blackout hacked the US military servers manually to get to witwicky and also initiate the virus that crippled all communications. This movie isnt about magic, its about everyday conventions.

QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Jun 29 2009, 05:20 PM)
Decepticons been on earth for MANY,MANY,MANY years, hiding in human midst. Don't you think its not enough for them to "track" and report back the progress of human development in communications to finally break their codes ?  Maybe hours after Alexandar Graham Bell made his "first" successful phone call, soundwave or other decepticon would've easily analyse this new "human technology" and exploit it. Don't forget, Transformers are a very advanced civilization even at 17000bc.

In the first movie, Blackout and Frenzy doesn't specialise  in what soundwave's MAIN and major function.

From the look of it.. soundwave is potrayed to be much "weaker" in this movie.
*
hmm wait, if thats the case they would have known where the ALLSPARK and Megatron was hidden in the first place? they only found out later on only in the first movie after a physical hack by frenzy and Blackout, that being said its not possible for the decepticons to have been able to break or understand the codes eventho they have been staying here for the longest time, cause all of the US technology is made in secret, unless they infiltrated with a pretender in human form and kept tabs on all the technology in other governments around the world. There was no mention of any decepticon being on the planet apart from wheelie saying those who were on earth were the legends of cybertron, even Jetfire was an autobot and was sent to earth to track the fallen. We dont know for sure if the legends were indeed all decepticons,if that were the case they would have easily tracked down the ALLSPARK location at hoover's dam.

Even if you said that blackout and frenzy dont have specialties like shockwave in the first movie that would mean that Shockwave only recently appeared along with the fallen,so he is still new that means he has to position himself with the military satellite in order to better infiltrate their defense communication.

For this movie, soundwave has been projected as he was in all other previous work, Megatron's highest in command, his communications officer.

no i dont remember Optimus saying that to sam its actually agent simmons who told em about the Megatron imprint being in all of earth's technology. Allspark can be used to empower both sides or even the third race, predacons. Its a cube of knowledge, a source of raw power its short circuited Megatron and we have seen that in small amounts it can re activate sparks in dead or motionless bots.

I also want to state that the reason why Optimus cannot be saved with the allspark shard is because his spark is different as he is from the primus lineage, and his powers are"yeap you guessed it, its leadership" so tahts why only the matrix of leadership can restore his spark.

or was it mentioned in the comic adaptation/novel?
or are you giving your opinion on the matter?

makes sense,though.

This is mentioned when agent seymour was explaining to the secdef, epps, lennox, mikaela, and also sam along with others in front of Megatron icy self.

QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Jun 29 2009, 06:56 PM)
some things we just cant explain:
every transformer,be it autobot or decepticon will have a logo on their body.

and the logo isnt a small tattoo,it's a huge insignia.

anyone can see the logo, yet for some reason no one seems to know where the decepticons are.

lol..some things you just have to let go tongue.gif
*
In the novel, The Veiled Threat, its been said that they can also mask their insignia, that what they did when the autobots went to puerto rico for a mission.

QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Jun 29 2009, 06:56 PM)
they implanted a mutating virus when they hacked the US military network.
if they could do that, then they already knew the weaknesses of the system.
the only way you can implant a virus into a system is if you know the holes and weaknesses of said system.
there's no way you can implement a virus of any kind if you cant find loopholes in the system you target.

whatever the case, this whole "the transformers have already been here before" doesnt work out right.
it pretty much just destroys the first movie's story. (which in all honesty, wasnt that solid to begin with)
eh?
*
What i meant by the comment quoted by you is that, if the decepticons were here since lets say the 1800 for example, lets say all modern tech and secret military tech started from that period and the decepticons were keeping track of all of it then it means theres no need for the decepticon to hack the military in the first movie.

IMHO,the transformers being here makes sense if their presence here is meant to curb decepticons looking for the harvester machine. Like guardians or maybe they came to visit just to keep an eye on this civilization just like the movie The Earth Stood Still, where the aliens stayed and kept contact with their planet.

QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Jun 29 2009, 06:56 PM)
he wasnt sent there BY the fallen?
i was under the impression that he switched while he was on earth(or something like that)
but the fact that there were transformers on earth already destroys the need for the first movie.lol
(by that i mean they didnt need sam at all, since the first few transformers who were already on earth should already have found out the location of the cube)
*
He did say,he was on the mission to stop the fallen if im not mistaken, watched it just now again. I'm beginning to think my above theory is more plausible or maybe sector 7 info wasnt on the security mainframe for quite some time until the first movie, they did keep Megatron and the cube in a safe place for 75 years even the Pentagon except for the president and a few others knew of the sector's existence, sort of like MIB.

yep... budget would sky rocket. thats the limitation he had before..
but now both making mega bucks.. i think every person that watched tf1 n 2 deserves to see a movie with the robots taking center stage.. even if it costs $400 million. heck the movie will still probly be profitable but less profit margin. if its damn good, it might make more than the previous even.
they should just go all out now theyve got the extra cash
*
hmm if Paramount allows it that is haha, the no 1 rule of business is to minimize cost and maximize profits = huge profit margin. Again movies are a gamble, even the biggest budgeted movies fall, we cannot simply assume the third installment with a bigger budget would garner the profit that the studios aspire to achieve, they wouldnt wanna just resort for less profit margin, but hey i'd still watch it regardless.

seeing as how the cube is much much much bigger than bumblebee, and the cube's radiation can supposedly attract the cybertronians(which was the reason why the dam was built over it), wouldnt the cybertronians on earth be aware that a cube of such power is there?

it would've taken YEARS for the dam to be built

it would've been negligible had the cube been the size of sam's hands (as it became when bee transformed it) but at that stage of the story, the cube was [b]ENORMOUS
.
it would've been extremely unlikely that NO cybertronian on earth would have picked up on it's energy

they never mask their insignias in the movie..hell,they display it prominently.
even jetfire's was there as he was unlocked (from stasis)
but yet no one notices it laugh.gif
*
hmm, well one reason could be the fact that the cube landed in the Arctic pole, the radiation from the aurora is enough and the polarity of our earth magnets to shield the cube's power. i'm assuming all the cybertronians have went elsewhere to look for the matrix, neglected this perhaps?

Again their ability to mask the insignia when needed is present in some literature no? haha even if its prominent on the construction vehicles on the cargo ship, the workers would have probably not noticed it. Jetfire's insignia was at the bottom,it was carefully hidden until mikaela saw it. notice how there are no strange tattoos on the Blackbird body as opposed to Starscream im beginning to think only the higher ranked TFs have those.

hey we have worked on plenty of radiation based nuclear products, probably they kept it in a case that shields the radiation from going out and grabbing the attention of the cybertronians.

i doubt they had anything that could shield the radiation enough to be able to transport it safely (had any cybertronians been on earth at the time, anyway)

if even in the movie's timeline the cybertronians can already pwn the humans like crazy,i cant imagine during the time the dam was built.lol..it would've been peanuts if they had invaded then

well we didnt need 4 football fields thick walls to protect anti matter at CERN so im guessing its a long term solution to put the cube in the dam rather than keeping it in a radiation proof box that is so ginormous and seeks attention.
