Sad definitely. I think this would definitely damage e-sports as a whole. Just look at the skill difference between NA and Asian for BW.

but, lag is lesser if players in a same region compete against one another.
i.e. korean vs korean
might probably lag more if korean vs american etc

but then in guild wars, korean players dominate american players in the early days of guild wars ...
