Papers: Tevez decision looms

Carlos Tevez faces an agonising choice between Manchester United and Manchester City over the next 48 hours. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has also talked to Tevez's advisers, who are locked in talks with both Manchester clubs as they move to resolve the striker's future. A late move by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has left the little Argentinian with a difficult choice, and the situation is further complicated by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti's interest in Tevez. City have made a massive contract offer, thought to be around £6million a year. But yesterday Fergie made a long phone call to Tevez in an attempt to persuade him to stay at Old Trafford. United are ready to meet the asking price of around £22m, though they still want to pay in instalments where City are prepared to meet the fee in full.

The Sun says Chelsea have stolen a march on Tevez's other suitors, after new Stamford Bridge manager Carlo Ancelotti personally rang the striker in Buenos Aires to convince him that he should move to London.

The Daily Mail claims United - along with Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid - have registered an interest in Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery, but the Bundesliga giants will knock back any bids for their prize asset. The same article goes on to speculate that David Villa will also shun the Reds' interest, in favour of staying in Spain.

Younger, less established stars could be on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar, according to various tabloids. The Express quotes the agent of Brazilian winger Douglas Costa, who says his client is a United target, while The Mirror says the Reds will rival Tottenham and Chelsea for Aston Villa's Ashley Young.

Ronaldo: I'll need time to adapt to Spanish game

Cristiano Ronaldo says he will need time to adapt to the different style of the Spanish game, but is confident he can quickly match the Real Madrid fans' high expectations as he closes in on a world record £80m move to the Bernabeu.

Having reportedly passed a medical over the weekend, the Portuguese star knows that even the Fifa World Player of the Year can struggle to adapt to new surroundings.

"Football in England is different, it is more physical," he told Sky Sports News while on holiday. "No matter how good you are it takes time to adapt to any type of football. I just hope I can get used to it as quickly as possible."

Ronaldo is also aware of the weight of expectation that will come with his staggering transfer fee but he insists he is comfortable carrying the burden.

"My career has always consisted of different challenges. At Manchester United it was like that every year," he added. "This season is different because it is a completely different experience for me and the challenges ahead are different ones.

"The expectations will be very high but I am used to that. I know who I am and I know what I have to do.

"Right now I am relaxing with my family to make sure I am fully rested mentally and physically for my arrival to Real Madrid."

Ronaldo also expressed hope that the fans he was leaving behind in Manchester would understand and respect his decision to join Madrid.

"Real Madrid is a club I have always wanted to play for. I am very grateful for the effort they have made on my behalf," he highlighted. "I hope the fans of Manchester will understand my decision. It was a mutual decision that quickly came to an agreement and I am very happy about that."
