Lol Melo's Juventus deal has collapsed, for the moment. Apparently Fiorentina isn't willing to meet Marchionni's wage demands. We might still be in it for Melo after all if our reported interest from before is true. However I can't say I'm all too bothered about whether or not we sign a player whom I have barely even heard of let alone witness him in action on a regular basis till we were reportedly interested in him for the first time last year. Caught glimpses of him only since then. Solid but nothing impressive.

If that is the case its gonna be a huge season for Bendtner IMO.

Anyway just got my new Arsenal Away Jersey from Al-Ikhsan, The Curve. Went in just to try on the sizes initially because you can get it cheaper from some of the sellers here in LYN but in the end just couldn't resist the temptation. Fell in love with it the minute I put it on in the changing room. Gotta say the jersey looks and feels much better in the flesh. The material they use is different compared to our home kit which IMO feels better than the material they used to make the home kit. Also the cutting of the jersey is smaller compared to our home kit so those planning to buy its advisable to try before you buy.

Why is everyone blaming Diaby ? haha. To be honest it was Nasri's own carelessness that brought the injury on himself IMO. Diaby was shaping up to shoot only for Nasri to poke the ball away just when Diaby was swinging his leg for a kick.

Ade's departure has left us with one of the slowest strike force in the league as well as probably the slowest Wenger has ever had since he was appointed as Arsenal manager. Right now I still don't consider Walcott nor Arshavin a striker yet until I see them played up top by the boss. Even then if Arshavin or Walcott were to be played as either one of the strikers we will be severely one dimensional with virtually no aerial presence whatsoever unless paired with Bendtner.

Huntelaar would be a great signing but right now I'd be leaning towards Chamakh as a more direct and similar replacement to Adebayor IMO.

The fact that Cana has ended up at Sunderland shows that he was never even a target for us to begin with. It was all paper talk.

The Arsenal curse seems to be kicking in already. Seems Ade missed a sitter in front of goal in City's 1-0 loss to the mighty Kaizer Chiefs biggrin.gif

I know this is coming from the Daily Star and it shouldn't be taken seriously but if this is true and if we do sign him up it would definitely be a fantastic signing. In addition to that among all the names bandied around as an Ade "replacement" I rate him the highest IMO. A strong, powerful player yet with great technique and some decent pace as well. His finishing ain't too shabby either. With the amount of chances we create each game he would score loads.

read on some blogs that we are on the verge of signing huntelaar. checked out skysports and soccernet... no news abt it. ah well. y does everyone seem to want him?
*
I'm not too keen on Huntelaar to be honest. Arguably one of the best finishers around. However right now looking at the strikers we currently have I would prefer a striker with both aerial ability AND at least some decent pace. We have probably the slowest strikeforce in the BPL right now and also probably the slowest strikeforce Wenger has ever had since taking over. Although if the boss does decide that he is the man to replace Ade then by all means I'm all for it.

What AW needs is a striker that can score 20-30 goals, and that can't come from eduardo, arshavin, vela, walcott, v.persie or bendtner
*
Van Persie had 20 last year. Wait till Eduardo and Vela features in at least ONE full season then I think it is only fair to judge them. Walcott and Arshavin aren't strikers. As for Bendtner he got 15 goals last year. I am confident he can easily hit 20 now that Ade is gone and he can start more matches this season considering almost half of his total number of appearances last year were as substitutes.

Not bad IMO considering we only drew with Szombawiueyuqwye 1 - 1 last year with pretty much the same group of players.

As much as I do not want Kolo to leave as well 16m is very very good business IMO if we do sell him for that price. I'm sure many still have some lingering faith that he could recapture the form of the "Invincibles" era and so do I but we have to be realistic as well that at 29, the chances of that happening looks very slim IMO.

I honestly feel its an offer too hard to turn down on Arsene's part and I have a feeling he will be on his way to join Ade.

BUT we simply have to buy a new centreback if this happens otherwise its curtains to our season before it even started IMO. Well unless our defenders stay clear of injuries with Vermaelen proving to be a success and Djourou transforming into a Sol Campbell overnight. Vermaelen a success probably but not so about the bit of Djourou transforming into a Sol Campbell and even less so about our defenders staying clear of injuries given our "ahem" injury track record <.< Don't get me wrong about Djourou though I do rate the lad very highly indeed just that I feel its just too soon for him.

This is personal - I think 16M for someone like Toure is considered cheap ! I won't do the business if I was in charged of it.

Getting a decent defender at this price is OK
Getting a defender like Toure at this price is a GREAT deal!

However,

Losing a defender in Arsenal is BAD.
Losing a defender like Toure in Arsenal is WORSE
Losing a defender like Toure at only 16M when we have no successor of his post is WORST!

Unlike the strikers where we have decent cover and the confidence in these strikers (RvP, Bendtner, Eduardo, etc) is high, the same cannot be applied to our defenders. Our weak defense will be much much further weaken by Toure departure. New reinforcements like Vermaelen will NOT bring immediate success (although we have done a great deal with Arshavin before), not to mention to compensate a loss of one of the most senior defenders in the team.
*
Haha you are entitled to your own opinion and I respect that but I think the opposite. Toure's form has been poor for quite sometime now and is 29. He is not getting much younger. Chances of him improving or recapturing his form is very slim. Moreover if you factor in the fact that he is in his last year of his contract and considering he has once put in a transfer request in January shows that he might not be as happy as he seems to be and might reject a new contract offer and we will lose him for nothing at the end of the season. Flamini all over again ? Also we will lose him for more than 2 months due to the African Nations Cup.

To be honest if Arsene were to pay 16m for a 29 year old defender who will miss more than 2 months of the season who is also in his last year of his contract with the uncertainty of how he will perform due to poor form the previous season I'll be livid.

Like I said I do not want Kolo to leave but 16m is just a very very good offer.

BUT I repeat again we will have to buy a new centreback if this happens.
