this fella again meh? although i think it'd be good to have him, this whole thing just stinks of rehashing past targets to make the news rounds.
as far as i'm concerned, wenger has never mentioned anything even remotely close to a name that resembles lorik cana.
until wenger says it (which i highly doubt) or lorik actually holds that arsenal shirt, this is just typical rumour mill news....

exactly... like i said loh.. it's highly unlikely. but until wenger says something OR i see lorik cana holding an arsenal jersey with his name on it, i'm gonna treat it like what it should be: rumours.. =)

true, arsene has not said anything, but i would like him to be with us. ooh, imagine if evra calls us babies again..hehe, he will find himself on the floor, cannot play few games! =))
*
if cana was with us (and i emphasize the word "IF" here so that no one will get their hopes up), evra would find himself on the floor everytime he comes across cana, regardless of what he did or did not say... hahahahaah.. =)

nothing like a no nonsense tough tackling midfielder to instill some fear into our opponents... *continues dreaming*... .

Ya right. AW's purchases are always entertaining brows.gif

However, AW's approach may not suit the current trend of football as there are more and more clubs buying players without bothering the prices. Anyway, I understand there is a need for such approach (AW's) because we are not those super rich clubs (minus the debts).

AW was right to ask all the Arsenal internal guys to shut up on talking about our budget etc... cos it will just reveal how deep our pocket is - which can be used as a bargaining reference.
*
wenger is an astute businessman when it comes to the transfer market. he refuses to be bullied into a price he does not agree to and he never reveals his hand too soon. i believe that he is right to tell the arsenal board to keep quiet. if you tell all and sundry about how much you have to spend, what edge do you have when you go to the negotiating table?

i am really thankful that wenger puts the club's finances as priority before making foolish purchases.
i do, however, hope that this time, wenger will dip into the transfer kitty a bit more because i think we need to.
and from what he has been saying to the press, it would seem that he knows it as well...

let's see where we go from here... take the wheel monsieur wenger...

gosh... went to kayu to watch the match...the whole place was covered with devils fans... only a few barca fans and then got the neutrals like me...

i thought barca were lucky in the beginning cause valdes was a whole bundle of nervers, as were the rest of the back 4, especially in the initial stages. they were really fortunate to survive the first 9 minutes with the score 0 - 0. however, once they weathered the defensive storm, they showed what they could do with their attacking dearth. honestly, in terms of beautiful football, barca showed what it's all about: confidence (sometimes bordering on arrogant... heheh), precision passing, and absolutely lethal. arsenal would do well to take a few pages out of guardiola's book about how to make a very lethal attack compensate for a shaky back 4.

i dearly wanted henry to score because it would mean so much to him, but he missed the best chance when he was 1-on-1 with van der sar. speaking of VDS, i blame him for getting beaten at his near post for the first goal. the second goal was a total stunner, from one of the shortest players on the pitch no less.

i was talking to a united friend who was asking me what was the difference between united and barca (since barca seemed to be playing so well). i told him, the difference is: iniesta and messi. those two fellas really ran the show yesterday. and they also ran united ragged.

all in all, i felt the best team won, and i'm really happy for henry that he finally won his CL medal that is missing from his trophy cabinet. at the same time i feel so jealous because i so wish it was the arsenal team up there.... sigh...

if we can add barry or alonso to our ranks, i would be thrilled to bits... of course right now, the only thing we have is rumours. however, it is known that barry has been looking for a move to a club with european football and that alonso for some reason doesn't really rank very high in rafa's books....

and if wenger is serious about bringing players with experience who can give us that extra edge, both these players are decently priced and aren't past their prime yet.

but until that happens.. i'll just continue dreaming... heheh...

QUOTE(StarGhazzer @ Jun 1 2009, 02:11 PM)
Vieira was a mishap at Milan at the age of 20. We all know how he turned out. Give Denilson some slack. No one expected him to rule England this season, and when he was left out of the team for Song we actually shipped in 4 goals against Chelsea and 3 against MU. At the GROVE somemore...
*
i'm gonna be honest bro. i think denilson deserves to be given some slack cause he's still young and all that. but i do believe that fabregas needs to be given a way better midfield partner that can help him out. in that respect, i think even song has been inconsistent as well. again, i'm hoping someone with more experience and can command the midfield more can come in straight into the side. this will allow song and denilson to learn more from the two midfield maestros so that they can take over after that. but that's just my view lah..

QUOTE(StarGhazzer @ Jun 1 2009, 02:11 PM)
The thing with Nicky is that he is yet to find his best role.

Target man ie no9?
Support striker ie no10?
Free central role ie Titi14?

We've seen him mainly as a target man in his early days/subs appearances, and as a support striker when he was paired with Dudu last season in the CC. Hell he even got far too many time on the wings when he's clearly not a winger.

I still believe he has the power, the pace, and the positioning to become our blonde Anelka... Well, maybe not as quick but you get the idea. There can be only one Thierry Henry, and once again apart from Theo there's no one in our team that appears to play like the King. Even for Theo it's far too early to predict.
*
i agree with you to a certain extent that yes, the big dane has not been able to play in his preferred role much this season, mostly coming in and having to play from the right. also, he hasn't been given that many chances to start a match. however, i still think that he needs to definitely work on his first touch, ball possession and make sure that he delivers this coming season if he wants to stake his claim as a first team player. having said all that, i really like his workrate.. he's one guy who will run his socks off for the team... unlike a certain other striker... =)

for what it's worth.. i don't think the sms is true, unless this was something that happened in the evening after the press conference.
i was there (along with many other arsenal supporters) from morning 11.30am till 2.30pm when the AFC president came out to tell us that the second meet the fans session was cancelled... and during that entire time i was there, wenger didn't even kick a ball, much less dribble... unless of course this was all happening inside the air-conditioned room lah.. then that one i have no idea... heheh

to me, if arsenal were to get a tough tackling DM or CM, someone who is able to go straight into the team and provide guidance for players like denilson and song, i would honestly be happy already.

many have already raised the point that we've got loads of attacking dearth and i'm optimistic that these guys will be raring to go come start of the season.

i think the news about RVP signing the contract extension is great news. this shows that the young, established players sincerely believe that we're not too far away from winning silverware..

the fact that he's trained is chocolate leg to be much more lethal than in previous years is proof that he's steadily improving. he's also been more involved this season that most other seasons.

however, i believe that he needs to bring the magic back into his freekicks and also be more lethal in front of goal. most people have commented about how many times he's hit the post last season. sadly, hitting the post doesn't win games. goals do... so i do hope that he'll find that killer touch this season and show the world that he's ready to win things with arsenal... =)

imagine an on fire eduardo and RVP supported by players like bendter and vela.. yummy.. heheh...

Damn Usmanov.
*
to be honest, i don't know what is the motive behind usmanov's suggestion....but regardless of his intentions, i'm glad that the arsenal board gave due diligence to the suggestion, considered everything and then revealed everything out in the open. i'm glad we didn't take usmanov's suggestion because that would've given us short term gain (more money for wenger, reduce debt at the moment), but it would also mean that in the overall picture, arsenal would've had one more creditor (i.e. usmanov and his millions) to worry about in the long term.

as far as i know, arsenal's debt management has been well maintained and carefully planned, which is why there is no urgent need to get some additional cash upfront. wenger has always worked well with the funds given to him and he's always been careful to keep the club's situation in mind when buying new players. perhaps those who want a sugar daddy would be cursing right now, but i'm with the board in saying "thanks, but no thanks". we'll do it the arsenal way. =)

Sulmaan Ahmad wrote an interesting article. however, he's looking at arsenal from a half empty perspective. what he has failed to do is to talk about arsenal from a half full perspective.

from his writing, you would've thought that arsenal just barely managed to escape relegation. and while yes, wenger doesn't like to overspend, i believe that his purchase of vermaeleen is a step in the right direction. and just because we didn't get melo it doesn't mean that we're definitely gonna suck in the coming season. we've still got a bit of time before the transfer window closes and we don't know what aces wenger has up his sleeve.

so, for me, the article is just an article from someone who has a quite pessimistic view of things in the arsenal camp.

i can't really say that i wanted ade to stay, but i'm just wondering why wenger would allow ade to be sold to a fellow premiership club. it's one thing to let waning stars and surplus players to play for our EPL rivals, but ade can be devastating if he were to really want it, and now that arsenal have sold him, i'm quite sure he'd be fired up to prove wenger wrong.... and somehow, ex players love to score against their old clubs.

but what's done is done (if the reports are to be believed), and i'm not sure whether ade can go back now. how would wenger and the rest of his arsenal team mates take him back after passing the medical and agreeing that massive pay packet? i guess we'll know in time.

right now, the most important thing is: what will wenger do to beef up this arsenal squad? to be honest, with the loss of ade, i still don't think we need to buy a replacement striker. we've got RVP (who will definitely be the first choice now), eduardo, bendtner, vela, and walcott who i hope will make the transition from winger to striker this coming season. even arshavin can play as an attacking player, so our options in the attacking department are pretty ok. i'm still hoping that he'll bring in a good midfield enforcer or a defensive minded midfielder who will allow fabregas to concentrate on weaving his magic.

I don't know about other clubs but the bold statement is indeed true to Arsenal doh.gif

I'm also a bit surprised that AW is selling Ade (one of our proven strikers) to EPL club (if the deal is real). This is something AW seldom do.

However, I believe this sale is 100% decided by AW (despite arseblog says otherwise) because of the good offer and lack-of-daddy-sugar in our team.
*
i'm sure AW would have had the final decision. arsenal is one of the few clubs where the manager (ie wenger) has a free hand with players under his care. and again, for all ade's contribution to arsenal, he also has to shoulder his own failures which also affected arsenal, and perhaps this is for the best....

QUOTE(Vinci777 @ Jul 16 2009, 10:43 AM)
There is no choice if he scores against us. What we can do is to score more against City. I dont mind if he score 1 but we scored 2. Anyhow, we only meet City twice a season. There is still 36 games to play. If we can benefit from the 36 games, 2 games is nothing. Anyhow, AW is not godlike, he cant score anytime he like. No worries.
*
This is the list of losses for the EPL champions for the past few seasons:

08/09 united - 4 losses
07/08 united - 5 losses
06/07 united - 5 losses
05/06 chelsea - 5 losses
04/05 chelsea - 1 loss
30/04 arsenal - 0 losses

no champion has ever lost more than 5 games in recent history. so having adebayor lining up against us even only 2 times in a season is scary because losing even 1 game to city could have serious repercussions to our title ambitions... i'm just hoping the ade that plays against us will be the one who was aloof, going offside all the time, and couldn't score even with an open goal, disinterested...... =)
