South island 2D1N? Are you serious?

If you ask me, I would just skip south island completely to make it for my next trip. Or skip north island and just focus on south island. 6 days isn't even enough to cover south island also.

If you visit QT , you should go to Milford Sound . If you drive , strictly adhere to the speed limit .I got three booking tickets . The police will hide at the forested area .

Hi guys, just wanna ask. What is the cheapest flight to Christchurch?

Direct flight from KL to Christchurch or take budget airline[AirAsia] from KL to Melbourne [perhaps i can stay there 1 or 2 days just to see Great Ocean Road] and then take another budget airline from Melbourne to Christchurch?

Thanks.

Your best choice for australia to chc flight at lowest price is probably jetstar. But mind you that can cost about AUD200 one way. Not that cheap as well... Given the possible best prices... Transit at australia with airasia should be cheaper but not so hassle free.

Might be better to fly via sydney, more flights, more timing.

Try to check Jetstar. Otherwise, AA to Aussie then either Jetstar or Air NZ or Virgin to CHC.

Hi, thanks for the replies. So it is cheaper to fly with AA to Aussie then first then get a budget airline from there to CHC right? And I've checked Jetstar to see if there's any direct flight from KL to CHC but all "N.A." =(

And yes transit at Sydney is better, but I'm just thinking what can I do there. Cause if I'm transiting I might as well spend one or two days there to explore.

Er... No offence... Shouldnt you have done the comparison first? Transit vs no transit at aussie.

If you are cost sensitive... I want to point out shuttle from airport to city cost $30++ two way either melb or syd.

And also, just want to ask. Can our Malaysian Driver License be used there when I want to rent a car in NZ?

Thanks.

Hmm I have few other questions. I'm planning to go to NZ - South Island next year's mid May for around 14/15 days. Did some search at TripAdvisor and found out that Campervan travel is much cheaper than Car/Hostel,Motel travel due to low season for a 5 person travel. My only concern is :-

1. Do we need any special license to operate that Campervan because currently I only have the normal Class D Malaysian license (D - Motor Car unladen weight not exceeding 3500 kg). I've checked through the FAQ at those rental website and all they describe is "Full motor license and for foreign license, it needs to be translated".

2. Will the road in NZ be frosty or snowy during May? From what I've read, sometimes it could be frosty but not snowy, so I do no need to rent the snow chain right?

3. Any recommendation as to which Campervan rental company I should go for?

Thanks !

Not really. Unless you plan to go up mountains. Best you get the campervan company contact and talk to them for their advice.

Just wondering, -Max91- Do you have any experience in driving during winter?

South Island is a bit unpredictable depending on where you go. Rain might drop anytime when they feel like it too especially in places like Dunners.
