Hi guys, I am currently asked by my Strategic Management lecturer to select an industry and write a 5000 page report on the industry and I've decided to write on the video-game industry.

Though I'm a gamer, I am not really 'hardcore' enough to go through gaming websites on a consistent basis to check out statistics and articles on the X360 vs PS3 wars so I was wondering if you guys could provide some links that are relevant to the video-game industry (such as the ever growing size of the industry, the money spinning in it and stuff on the PS3 vs X360 wars and how it's panning out or will pan out) that you may come across now and the future.

Of course, I'd be doing some research on my own and not just relying on your links but I just thought that maybe you guys could lend a helping hand if you come across anything interesting.

Thank you for reading this, and your help in advance. biggrin.gif

Kobe, were there journals related to the video game industry? I think I havent' crossed with any before during my search. Maybe that would be a good place to start.

Dude, no need to take the trouble of helping me search!!! I do not want to waste your time. I'm just saying that perhaps if you were to go to certain websites and find some news release or articles that could help, thanks.

And news articles would do, no need journals.

wikipedia is a good start... jurnal's or article? look at wiki's citation when u opened any article, they did refer to some journals and site's.. that might help u a bit.

I wouldn't really recommend Wiki, because some of the sources are not properly cited. But you can use the references in the articles for extra help.

LOL. No way near as hardcore as Forbidden252 with 11 going onto 12.

And do I have to buy OPM or just go to the website? And what sort of stats are there at OPM?

Thanks. biggrin.gif

well, my phd study at the moment is about gaming - to be precise i'm only looking at xbox360 smile.gif

for gaming statistics/expenses try go here, Entertainment Software Association

then journals on gaming try go here, Game Studies

if you need more info/journals just pm me and i'll send you rest of the links. too many links so i don't know which is useful to you.

Guys, just asking, do you know who supplies the Blu-Ray drives and other components to Sony for the PS3? I'm googling for suppliers to Sony in the making of the PS3 and have come up with little info.

There's this documentary series on the video game industry, it's called 'Rise of the video games (2007)'. IIRC there are 5 episodes. You might get something out of it. PM me if you wanna know where to get it.

Well there are a couple of books. I have one book called "Game Over". Piratically an overview of the videogame industry from rise and fall of the industry. I think it's available in any bookstore. There are a couple more books but they deal on specific consoles only.

www.gamasutra.com is another good site for info. lots of news and stuff about the industry.

NPD Group (www.npd.com) is the most often quoted (and some say most reliable) research company on the video games industry, but most of their research are skewed towards the US market (but since the US is the biggest market in the world, i suppose you have to look into the trends and stats in the US to get a good perspective of the industry).

Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities is a leading analyst that tracks the gaming industry closely. his observations and predictions are usually quite accurate (or at least very close to them). you might want to google his name to find out what he has said about the future of the industry.

one good but exhaustive way to get info is to trawl the big game sites like wwww.gamespot.com, www.ign.com, www.kotaku.com, www.joystiq.com, etc to look for industry related info that may be useful to you.

honestly, its not that hard to get all the info that you want/need on the global industry.

i'm actually more interested if someone did a proper report/research on the local industry instead. smile.gif

ps: actually i forgot to mention that the global video games industry is really broken up to two markets really - US and Japan and both markets have totally different market dynamics. Europe and the rest of the world really just follows what ever happens in these two markets. might be a good idea if you dedicated a bit of space the difference between these two markets and how they influence the rest of the world.
