When you go to the Apple online store, they will tell you the estimated shipping time. The iPod Touch's shipping time for example is '1-3 business days'.

However when I enquire about this to a sales person at Machines, he told me that between the time you confirm the order and the time you received it would be about 1 month, and not 1-3 days like many would perceive.

Is this true? I have never made an order to Apple for their products, but I certainly plan and look forward to doing so (the engraving looks very pretty!).

Also, can you set the time for the product to arrive, or you just have to sit and wait for the postman to ring your doorbell at any random time?

Hahahaha ... you really got played by the sales person huh. Why? Coz he/she wants you to purchase it there and not thru the Apple Online store.

If it says 1 - 3 business days then it will be within 1 - 3 business days unless it said otherwise. Business days means monday to friday so if you ordered on friday then the shipping starts on the following monday.

FYI ... engraved items will take longer ... i think 1 week because the item will be shipped from Apple factory in China instead from singapore (this region shipping hub) if you take the normal item without engraving.

And you can't set the time of delivery. Just wait for mr postman to arrive (you can check the package thru their package tracking website) or if you missed him then they will ask you to self collect at their centre.

Apple FAQ

According to that website, shipping time doesn't include delivery time.

So maybe shipping time is the time taken for the product to move from China to Malaysia, and delivery time is the time it takes from then to our doorstep?

I don't know, website looks quite confusing.

If you look at the website, it says that ship by is within Apple's control. Then when delivers by means the time it take for the delivery company to send it to you (if not mistaken by DHL). What they said ships by 1 - 3 business days is that they will take 1 - 3 days to prepare your order and send it to the delivery company where the delivery company will take x amount of day to deliver to you. If your stuff did not face any problem with customs then you will get your stuff within a week the most.

And if your read all the info in the website, you'll be notified by Apple that the item has been passed to the delivery company and you'll be given a tracking code to track your item.

Hope this clear things up for you.

@SKisaGooner,

Nope.
- Ship means to confirm your credentials, assign your order, and pack the product. (This takes place at the factory, in most cases Shanghai.) That is what the Apple Online Store quotes.
- Delivery means that the assigned order starts to move out from the shipping facility, and travels via DHL (most of the time) to the Malaysian customs, and when the order is cleared, it shall continue it's journey to your doorstep. (or wherever you assigned it to go)

This whole shipping thing depends on the product your order, the CTO options you put in (engraving, in this case), product availability, and most importantly luck.
My advice for shipping your iPod is: perform your order on a Sunday night. Usually if there isn't anything extra, it will always ship in time, and sometimes even earlier.
I had ordered my PRODUCT (RED) nano around 2 months ago, and the total time it took after i placed my order was 2 working days. The Online Store at that time quoted it as a week's shipping.
I had very good experiences on the shipping times and i'm sure that many forummers here have experienced it too.
Besides, at least you can look for that idiot who claimed it took a month and slap the freshly engraved iPod on his face. That should make your day smile.gif

Better slap that buggers face with the shoe than the iPod. Later get oil from his face on the freshly engrave iPod ... sayang laaaa. After slap with shoe then can show the iPod to his face.

Actually he claimed that customers had called him complaining about the long delivery/shipping time of the online store.

But thanks, very helpful indeed.

actually it is faster ordering it through apple online store compared to resellers, unless the reseller has ready stock for pickup straight away..

Any reason why ordering on Sunday night would be perfect? I have engraving on my iPod and will be buying it with a Apple USB Power Adapter. Will be performing order tonight. smile.gif

hi, need some advise here.

I am thinking of ordering my IPOD Touch online via the apple store, but I do not have a credit card.
The reason to buy online is because there is no apple reseller at my place.
So my question is, is it possible if I could do bank transfer to purchase and will it affect the shipping time? Cos i think i read somewhere that it will take longer/time and more problem incurred if we were to use bank transfer.

Just wanna make sure that my order is smooth and can get the item in less than a week smile.gif

Thanks in advance for your help/reply.
