i hope they won't come up with something like please stop using the tv due to risk of severe explosion until a replacement unit is available!!!

I don't think they are discontinuing it. Its just that they are selling faster than they can make it.

Plasma back is awesome. If you seeing greyish black, its either you TV is set too bright or is the source that is the problem. Some source is poorly encoded too bright and resulting in greyish looking black. Try playing different movies and see how it goes.
