@wz3k,
U can use the iPhone to track your data Usage. If you haven't jailbroken ur phone the information on Usage is quite accurate. Also, please take into account both upload and download data. @anti-LAx2, So as long as you're connected and using data services u will be charged. The i2G does not have 2G capabilities but it would have GPRS/EDGE capabilities logging U onto the internet. You can disable data if U wish by tweaking APN. To know how to do that, please check out the pinned threads. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281 |

@wz3k,
I've NO idea what causes the data to be inaccurate but most people here on a jailbroken set reports the data usage statistics to be inaccurate. I haven't jailbroken my phone n thus far data usage statistics seem to match my Maxis bills. Another thing to take note is to make sure your fake APN is indeed working; some people have reported it doesn't work on theirs. |

@anti-LAx2,
If you're successful in tweaking your APN U will totally disable data services and that includes GPRS |

@Icehart,
zijian possibly wants to Internet Tether hence the thought of downgrading? @wz3k, Your Maxis bill cycle will not change; your data usage and free minutes will be pro-rated based on when you collected your iPhone. Thus far, no such applications to help track data usage. |

@isaac89,
Maxis sets are officially unlocked sets. No official iPhone units will come jailbroken. To Apple, that is illegal. |

@xpresside,
I'm with tnsai on the fake APN draining your battery. I was using that for about 10 months with no battery issues. |

@whizzy,
My original i3GS is a Melbourne unit. I subsequently purchased a 2nd unit for a cousin in Germany and on that Maxis purchase, I signed up for the 12 month iData 2 plan. @Cyan7, 1GB should be suffice. |

@manchurr,
Yes that is absolutely right, but if you don't have a data service plan or have disabled APN, your IM+ won't work if there's no wifi around |

@MX510,
Yes it is recorded in the bill total usage; I am on iData 2 though but am sure it's the same for the rest; unless you're on an unlimited plan. This post has been edited by tinkerbel: Nov 12 2009, 03:12 PM |

@MX510,
In that case, you probably won't have data usage stated on ur bill. @`arthas, iData 3 is limited to 3GB. Maxis no longer offers their new users the unlimited plan. |

@`arthas,
I've 500MB p/month and thus far I haven't had problems with over usage. @Cyan7, The iValue plans should take effect about 2hrs after you get your phone; it'll take a while for Maxis to get it activated. @Ken, Wifi usage is not calculated in the Usage counter. |

@Ken,
Maxis doesn't charge you if you're on Wifi cause you're not connecting to their data service. @lleihuan, Yes the i3GS works with all our MY telcos [save for Internet Tethering] |

@tnsai,
If 3G is OFF without fakeAPN U can still be connected to data service via EDGE/GPRS. |

@justme3,
500MB is definitely more than enough if you don't use it to download stuff. I am on the move quite a bit and do quite a lot from my i3GS and thus far I haven't even breached 200MB p/month. Just don't start downloading using ur i3GS and u should be save. @tnsai, Your phone's jailbroken? There's not settings on mine to disable EDGE/GPRS. |

@honkit,
Y don't U just pay for 500MB p/month? That's going to be less than RM140 and you have enough data to not worry about an app connecting. The E will still appear - it's an indication to show there's EDGE coverage in that area you're at. |
