Is it possible to use a malaysian car in singapore for an extended period of time. Since it would be a waste unless you are thinking of being a PR in singapore for long term basis.

I thought the levy was 20 SGD and that would be each time you entered into singapore from malaysia on weekdays.
Is there a semi-permanent system like i pay a fee where i would be able to use a malaysian vehicle in singapore, and not commute from malaysia into singapore? |

QUOTE(freestyle @ Jun 15 2009, 09:51 PM) i will be working in singapore next month. only been there once when i was a small kid. how you guys find accomadation? i was looking for a place to rent, somewhere near dover/buona vista MRT. I was told that area is expensive. You think i can get a room under $500 or better still $400? Clover/buona vista room for under 400, more like fantasy since i have a fren over there, even utility room around 400. Common room around 500, not including air con of course.how much is your expenses/month? mind to share? i estimate $500=accomadation, $400=food, $100=transport, so $1k/mth. is that roughly correct? so scared, never live alone b4, all this while live with mom&dad. You want cheap accomodation, try woodlands, sembawang or yishun. Toa Payoh or braddell is ok if you want near city centre. Donno why since i moved to braddell, my m1 mobile bb damn slow, signal bar 4 level but speed around screamyx 512k. This post has been edited by crapp0: Jun 16 2009, 09:06 AM |

QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 16 2009, 09:35 AM) In Singapore, bedrooms are referred to either as (1) master bedroom or (2) common room. So, common room is a 'normal bedroom'... either no attached bathroom or shared bathroom. I know foreign labour workers who like to sleep in the living room rather then the common room since its much more airier then a standard room which can be quite stuffy. Bear in mind they dont have air-con so its understandable if you have a choice of sleeping with 3 other fella in a common room or in a spacious living room, which would u choose?Utility room is the utility room or store room. When the HDB flats are upgraded, they typically add a small room to the back. It's about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the common room. Some will use it as a storeroom and others will use it as an additional bedroom. Using the living room as a sleeping area is only when the flat is turned into foreign worker accomodation lah. You have 2 be kful when choosing a utility room, some of those rooms got no ventilation or even if it has a window, got no wind so it will be very stuffy, to the point that like sauna. Best would be to find an air con utility room. This post has been edited by crapp0: Jun 16 2009, 10:21 AM |

QUOTE(seantang @ Jun 19 2009, 10:01 PM) 1) you can drink water straight from the tap in Singapore - Yup. Supposed to be ok. But I still boil it. Like this i can complain to the police about my neighbour. Old fella smoke at common corridor plus always go out shirtless. I wonder if the police will layan it or will "turn a blind eye" since its an old uncle.2) for guys, you cant be shirtless in your own apartment, if your neighbours see you not wearing tshirt, they can report to police - Nope. As long as you don't lean out the window, fiddle your nipples while licking your lips and stare at your neighbour, you should be ok. There's also this wonderful new invention called curtains. |

QUOTE(Cho_Hakkai @ Jun 29 2009, 11:30 PM) At least you get a job in Singapore. Why dont u find a job in malaysia or some other country instead of deciding singapore as the be all, end all for your job search? For me, I'm still looking for a job in Singapore since Chinese New Year this year. All the jobs I saw either needs Singaporean or PR only. I'm a free graduate from Multimedia University with BBA(Hons)(Marketing Management) with third class honours. |

QUOTE(Cho_Hakkai @ Jul 1 2009, 01:16 AM) There are a lot of problems. Among them are: A few of my frens are working in malaysia and they are doing quite well, even one opened his own business with little to no help from the government plus they dont bar them from achieving what they want. The quota system where in Malaysia, it is your skin colour that determine your post in the company. In Singapore, as long as you work hard, you will get promoted. In Malaysia, no matter how hard you work, you will not get the credit you deserves. Instead other people who do not contribute much will get a higher post as it is stated in the law such as NEP. What's the point working in Malaysia as long as the people still treats us as second class citizen or "pendatang" race. From what i heard, the "dont get you promoted" thing may happen in certain GLC's and givernment sector, but private sector, if they did that, it would be akin to shooting oneself in the leg. |

QUOTE(Cho_Hakkai @ Jul 2 2009, 12:06 AM) When I was looking for jobs in Singapore, there are some people also asking this question from career fairs (JobDB Career Fairs 2009, Education & Career Fair 2009). In fact, my lecturer also told us that we graduates from MMU must at least know some multimedia. If i were employer, i would be very skeptical of you if your lecturer told you that as a graduate of Multimedia University, you must have some knowledge of "multimedia".I just hope that the supply of jobs will increase in Singapore to cope with the demand. |

QUOTE(onionknight @ Jul 4 2009, 10:54 AM) True for oil&gas, but I am from E&E background. This field is hardly hit by recession. Since most E&E involve in production. Since global demand now low, job prospect for production scale job also scarce.Even I getting a E&E job in sg is considered lucky cause I only holds 2nd upper from UKM. Now I a bit regret for choosing E&E degree when entering varsity. If u choose your subject coz u just want 2 earn money and the job prospect "would" be good. Then be prepared to to burned since you choose a subject out of financial or job prospect opportunity rather then self interest. I know many ppl who choose a subject not becoz they have an interest in it, but only focus on how much income they can derive from that particular field. Those who study something where they have a genuine interest in a particular subject tend to me more happier and wont feel that they have wasted their time studying something just for monetary gain. |

QUOTE(onionknight @ Jul 4 2009, 11:32 AM) It is true...... but there is no going back for me now.... I read an article where someone was like you, working in a field which she had no interest but the money was good, and used the money as a way to complement her job which didnt really interest her. In the end she made the choice of pursuing her interest with the money she saved and set up a company somewhere in new york.guess hv 2 use d $ i earn 2 maintain my interest |

Anybody know of a website dedicated to finding room mates or house mates in singapore? Not the usual landlord/tenant set up.

QUOTE(seantang @ Aug 14 2009, 11:52 PM) You can see if Roomsdb is any good. I just know it exists, never tried it before. Tried that website, its more of a tool for rental agents to hawk their rooms, ive used it quite a few times trying to find a room. And nearly all of the time it doesnt go 100% smooth.http://singapore.roomsdb.net/index.php An example would be the use of the washing machine, most ppl would say that you have free use of the washing machine or within the limits of being reasonable. But after a week or so, disputes will arise about its use as an example, the landlord will ask you to only wash in certain days due to he/she wanting to recycle the waste water from the RO water machine for use in washing your clothes on the premise that it saves water for the landlord. But the real kicker is that the landlord never mention this when he/she wanted to rent out the room with the facilities. Most of the time, i find that a large majority of landlords in singapore are very particular about water, especially the use of the washing machine. Thats why im looking for a house where there is no landlord since i hate these kind of stupid stipulations, told to me after agreeing to rent from them. At least they have the courtesy to tell me beforehand. |
