ok, i know smth about this bcoz my cousin is a mix. Dad = Singaporean, Mom = Malaysian WP holder (until today not a PR), She is staying in Singapore since she was born. and my aunt told me, she need to choose which country's citizenship u want to hold when she reach 21 years old. and guess what? if she choose Singapore, she have voting right here, if she choose Malaysia, she can vote in Malaysia.

Not trying to be racist, but i guess if both Parents is PR and Child born in SG and if the parents is non-bumi, i dun think Malaysia will accept the child as a malaysian.

editted,

My cousin was born in Malaysia

Wah, cant imagine such racist attitude still occurs in Malaysia's society today. It is so unfair.
My situation now is one of my relative, ie both parents are Malaysian PR resiting in SG and her mum is going to give birth perhaps in Aug 2010 and they prefer their son to become a Malaysian. Both the parents are Chinese.

So, the only way is to go to JB to give birth rite now?

On the other hand as per your case, I wonder why your cousin husband's wife cant be a PR?
I tot if either husband or wife is a native Singaporean, then its spouse can easily apply for a dependent PR?
*
yup, ask them to give birth in JB, when the child is born in malaysia, they cannot deny that he/she is a Malaysian.
My Aunty didn't apply PR bcoz the husband got no income (taxable). All my Uncle's income is "ahem" money and cannot see light de. when the husband got no income, they can't apply PR for the spouse.

Just a quick question, does anyone here have any idea if I could open a savings bank account (with DBS) with just my passport and MoM's Approved-In-Principal letter for my EP pass?
Fyi I have my medical report ready, just that my appointment with the MoM is another 12days away + a few days for it to be processed, so it would be at least another 2 weeks or more before I would get my EP card.

P/S: Btw, I have already started working so I would prefer to have an account opened as soon as I could.

Cheers.
*
yes u can, i opened my DBS account with the MoM's Approved-In-Principal letter, just bring SGD 500 to any DBS branch and they will open it for u.

i believe that there is smth call ATM 5 in Singapore, smth like MEPS in Malaysia but its free. I abandoned my DBS account because of the long queue and now i am using Citibank instead. Citibank can withdraw from ABN AMBO, Citibank, HSBC, Maybank, and Standard Chartered ATM Machine. This is what they call ATM 5.

hahha i was there last week and went clubbing,  gotta admit its got lotsa good looking ppl around. Seriously , i dont mind moving there coz i am kinda sick of the lifestyle in SG.
*
never been to HK b4, but if compare HK with SG, of course i will prefer HK. most important reason is because of the language. My mandarin sux and i feel a lot comfortable speaking in cantonese. and also the TVB dramas ^^. no nid to download anymore hehe.

Im thinking of getting a 3G plan with a smartphone. Of the 3 telcos, which has the best overall stable g connection speed over the island? Primarily at tuas, sembawang or changi?
*
i believe Singtel gives the best coverage for Singapore. I know Starhub's 3G connection is a little bit laggy when i use my iPhone to watch the starhub TV in Sembawang but the connection is good when i am in Ang Mo Kio area.

I dont think that will be much of a prob since this is for a phone so the 12GB file limit would be a hindrance to use the file hosting sites. I've found that rapidshare download speeds arent that great compared to megaupload or hotfile which give fantastic speeds.

Nobody here uses m1 for their 3g smartphone?
*
my uncle use M1, according to him (he is a Singaporean btw), interms of coverage in SG Singtel>M1>Starhub.
starhub have the worst coverage. but Starhub u can DL an app in iPhone to watch starhub TV. Singtel u can DL mioTV to ur iphone also.
but M1 u get nothing

Hi all, for those who work under EP in SG, do you all apply for SG Credit Card? Or it is better to use cash in SG?

Thanks.
*
normally i use cash because i am not qualified to apply CC in Singapore. u need to have $60k anual income to apply if u are a foreigner.

Thanks Lester, I got to know from CC thread that DBS has lowest income requirement for foreigner at $45k pa.

For those who work in SG, do you go to Johor to get your groceries? Will the price be "cheaper" this way?

Added on May 9, 2010, 11:30 am
Thanks Sean. If I do not qualify to apply for SG CC, do you think its okay to use MY CC in SG? The cons I could think of is 1. extra admin charges incurred for overseas spending, 2. troublesome - need to transfer money from SG to MY bank to pay bills

Reason I'm asking about using CC in SG is because I got used to paying via CC in MY, as it is very convenient for me, no need to brings lots of cash & I only need to pay once per month. Plus I get cash rebates for my spending too.
*
u can use debit card instead of credit card in SG. Their debit card is accepted by all merchants here. and the debit card works as good as a credit card as u will enjoy some rebate when u swipe it just like what we are getting in Malaysia. Not advisable to use ur MY CC here if not needed because the exchange rate sux. I have been using my DBS and citibank debit card here for the pass 6 months, so far non of the transaction got rejected as long as ur account have enough money. My friend tried to use his Malaysia Maybank Debit card here last time but it got rejected. Malaysia really "失败" in their debit card compare to SG.

Can anyone shed some light on Starhub's $5 free calls to 18 destinations including Malaysia. What are the hidden charges? Seems rather far fetched that I pay $5 and can chat as much as I want with friends and family from Malaysia.
*
i am using this service. u need to dial 018 before the number. for example. 01860323232323.
u need to pay $5 then all ur calls to the 18 countries will be considered a local call rate.

Wah that is damn tat loh! Last time i call they deducted from my intl credit, i end up with hundreds of dollars of local calls that I never use. Thx...this means I can just buy their $28 pack and get $100 to call back as often as I want. Can probably last a few months, hehe.

Why would people consider their postpaid plans with this kind of good deal? The free phones aren't really free anyway since its factored into your monthly payment already.
*
i am referring to post paid plans. not sure if that applicable to prepaid plans or not. for post paid plans, u get ur free local mins and u just need to pay $5 extra every month from ur phone bill and u can use the 018 service.

SH postpaid also has free local call minutes that you can use for 018.

Some plans also have free IDD call minutes that you can use for free 018 calls (ie. even the local call rate is not charged because it is free minutes).

Btw, does your prepaid 128 charge for incoming calls?
*
the answer is "Yes" for Singtel, not sure about Starhub though.

don't know. the interest is very low, i believe banks in Malaysia offer higher interest rate.

how come all of u all say BT being throttled. what is the DL speed u all get normally? I can get around 500-600kb/s on my BT. i am using Singtel 10mbps line.

editted

there once a time where i get around 1mb/s when i run 5 torrent at the same time. so i believe the average speed i get is most probably because there is not enough seed/peer around for me to leech.

Don't simply comment "Malaysia really "失败" in their debit card compare to SG."
Did you find out what is the problem? Your friend has enough money in his bank account? The credit card machine got any problem?
*
my fren have around RM8k in the account and he is just doing a $70 transaction. because he didn't carry enough cash, i ended up helping him to swipe with my Malaysian Credit card and the transaction gone through with the same machine. it isn't that called "失败" and that made my friend dam embarrass as he was looking for me all around the place to pay for him.
