Singpass Added on April 4, 2010, 3:29 pmQUOTE(Lester1987 @ Apr 4 2010, 12:14 PM) if u buy a malaysia registered bike, u still need to pay $4 per day. same thing. not to mention the traffic jam in causeway. since u stay in gelang patah and working in Tuas, i suppose that u will be using the 2nd link. 2nd link = pay toll (yes, even bike is paying toll) + the $4 entry fees. not worth it. compare to staying in SG, the amount u save is not that much. I would prefer to stay in SG personally.
the saving is quite a lot. You could save more that 50% on rental and food alone. Even liquor and cigarettes are cheaper. with a bike in jb, it's really easy to go around, at least better than taking mrt and bus in Sg. The only inconvenience is the jam during rush hour and this is coming from someone who have stayed in jb before. This post has been edited by Mackiddo: Apr 4 2010, 03:32 PM

I work shift 0730-1530, 1530-2330, 2330-0730. So I kinda avoid the peak hour jam. Normally it'll take me only 30mins of travelling. if you're on 9-5 then be prepare to be stuck in the traffic for hours during peak hours.

QUOTE(r1v3r @ Apr 6 2010, 12:55 PM) CC = credit card? how to get a malaysia CC without a jobs in malaysia? I try Hong Leong, they said can not. can, as long you have an address in Msia. Last time I 1st apply that time I send them (S&C) the IR8A form. No problem at all. So now I have Msia and Sg credit cards, it's better to use the card in their country of origin , save on the currency conversion Added on April 7, 2010, 4:58 pmQUOTE(kockroach @ Apr 7 2010, 02:35 PM) I am writing an appeal letter for my PR rejection, any suggestion or ideas? most likely they will not change their stand. probably you should wait another 6 months or 1 year before trying again. For me, the safety of my family and a good education for my child is top of my priorities. In Malaysia, I don't see that coming in the near future. Furthermore, i believe my kids wouldn't want to move back to Malaysia after studying here.

QUOTE(r1v3r @ Apr 9 2010, 11:45 AM) I know, mine entering primary school soon Safety. Yes, a bird in a cage is safer than a birs in the forest. Just make sure the stress did not shorten your life span. Education. Aii... long story. Many Malaysian send their children to study at many country, SG is just one of them. Unless your kids is fit enough and you have the network to put them in certain school in SG, else it make no difference. If you are from local education system and you want to work in SG, regardless of your result the school/poly/Uni name (the brand, alumni network etc) have more impact that you can imagine (unless non-local boss). A malaysian with no such background will have a neutral staring point. It is like an unspoken class system. Stress ? So far i've managed it pretty well. A good job with good income. Managed to get my kids into a good school which is just opposite our block . heard next year they are gonna increase the Singaporean balloting chance to X2 compare to PR. So good luck.

QUOTE(Cho_Hakkai @ Apr 13 2010, 07:40 AM) Just for your information, in my contract, I am under the contract for 2 years. If I leave before the 2 year contract end, I had to pay the amount of damage equal to the amount of how much they train me. This means that the longer I work, the more I had to pay them back. My market development manager told me that since I had work for 6 months, I had to pay them back 6 months of my salary if I want to quit now. I also do not have payslip at all. When I en quire for a copy of it, I am told to just write it down in the envelope. In my contract also said that I need to give 3 months notice after I have work for 2 years if I want to quit. and you gladly accept this T&C in the 1st place ? who is to blame ?

Although i negotiate that with my boss b4 and he verbally agreed to cancel the bond but i din get black and white from him. That is why now i want to quit and he is threatening me with the contract... Blame whom..blame myself ..But im still negotiating with him for releasing me by compensate him with one month salary. when you signed a bond/contract, you are obliged to honour it. I don't see how your boss is threatening you since it's in black and white.

QUOTE(SPS @ Apr 16 2010, 11:11 PM) If one intends to stay and work in Singapore for many years and is qualified to do so, one should definitely buy a HDB flat or a private property. When one returns home to Malaysia either for retirement or has earned enough, the gains realized from selling the flat/ private pty provides a very tidy sum. that's why we should buy ASAP if eligible. even if you keep it for a couple of years, you still make money. the best is rent out a couple of rooms and that rental itself will most likely to cover the monthly installment.

QUOTE(jae @ Apr 25 2010, 12:55 AM) Just a quick survey, for those of you guys on E-Pass, S-Pass and Working Permit, what's the policy of your company in regards to the portion of employer-contribution to CPF? Do they usually make an additional cash allowance/disbursement to you every month for the amount otherwise being contributed towards CPF or do they just pretend that nothing happened and not pay you that supposedly extra portion? there is nothing to 'pretend' , they just follow the employment act. If it says you are not entitle to cpf contribution then they won't contribute. QUOTE(futuristicwiz @ Apr 25 2010, 01:57 PM) I came across an interesting job that I hope to apply. Here's the condition: "Is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident" I am a Malaysian and not a PR at the time of application. Am I eligible? for instance, I apply for PR after getting the job offer? Thanks. you could try and apply. one of the reason they put 'Is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident' is probably to comply with Sg Gov call to employ more locals and prevent bad publicity. So they gotta becareful on their ads, if not end up at temasekreview.com .Sg Gov is tightening the PR quotas as we speak due to a lot of backslash from the residents. Added on April 25, 2010, 3:08 pmQUOTE(jae @ Apr 25 2010, 01:12 PM) the only forum that I'm aware of is hardwarezone Ok perhaps 'pretend' is not the correct term to be used, but you get my point. Is this based on your personal experience or you are just assuming so? so, do you know any company is doing right now ? The companies are even making noise now on the call from Labour Chief Lim SS for full restoration of companies cpf contribution for Singaporean and PR. That is only for the remaining 2% of base salary IIRC. You think the company would pay you over 10% of your base salary which they are not oblige to ? QUOTE(wu_shi_han @ Apr 25 2010, 03:13 PM) RM1.5K is of course better than $1.5K in SG lar... u dun really have much left over in SG. Compare to KL, u r staying wif ur family, then ur dad or family member can give u a ride to work. Dinner u can eat at home. so the money left is a lot... and there is something more than money can't buy... the time u spent wif ur loves one, ASTRO cantonese shows (though I know starhub also have cantonese channel), friends, mamak, good foods, driving car to different states, my windows are not blocked by another HDB flat and many many more... of course, I am talking about someone from KL lar... for all of that, i would gladly trade it with SAFETY. And of coz another thing is education for our kids, with Msia flip-flop policies, imagine, they can't even decide on which language to use as a medium for teaching Added on April 25, 2010, 3:20 pmQUOTE(wu_shi_han @ Apr 25 2010, 03:13 PM) I would say this SEANTANG is a bit biased, mayb he stay in SG for too long already and dun know that KL now is not too bad compare to SG. Personally, most of my frens in KL are doing quite good, and I doubt they want to come to SG even if there is an opportunity. I choose SG not becoz of the pay, in fact I might live a better live if I stay in KL (at least I believe I will have teres house and honda civic by now, but now I only have HDB and a ezylink card), but I choose here becoz the job opportunity is special and there is hardly any job like this in KL. He's NOT biased. He always support his arguments with facts. We knew coz most of us work in Sg too. This post has been edited by Mackiddo: Apr 25 2010, 03:22 PM

QUOTE(dokidoki @ Apr 27 2010, 02:00 PM) got shadow boh?.. i am still worrying whether to bring my tag heuer with me when working in SG ...really scare... which Tag are you ? i always wear my tag heuer watch, to work, take mrt, go hawker center makan ...etc ... so no worries ... think tons of ppl have tag heuer around here ... as someone mentioned, just like seiko... when i wanna go official function only i swap to a better watch. Added on April 27, 2010, 5:53 pmQUOTE(crapp0 @ Apr 27 2010, 04:45 PM) A luxury item in malaysia? A number of my frens in KL are either using iphone or gone straight to blackberry. But compared to singapore, its way more prevalent here then it is in malaysia. I guess pricing, infrastructure and availability of the product makes it an attractive offer in singapore, even schools kids are using blackberrys which you would only see businessmen use it in malaysia. I notice alot of guys in the shipping industry like tag, i guess it make them look macho. funny no one mention Apple's macbook . so many ppl using it at Starbucks here but hardly in Msia. I'm not in shipping industries but I like Tag coz it's tough ... suitable for those field kinda work. This post has been edited by Mackiddo: Apr 27 2010, 05:56 PM
