Could the palp be from her old exo? Anyway it'll grow back eventually when it molts which shouldn't take very long at that size.

Yes.. I'm going to try to breed em. The MM of this trapdoor is pure black .. just like L. malayanus.

BTW, what do the female L. malayanus look like? I ordered one a while back and it had a red butt. Was wondering if they sent me the wrong thing!

Red butt? Red carapace as well? L. malayanus should be pure black.
The one I have is L. desultor. Yours might be L.murphyorum
*
If I remember correctly the butt was red and black. The pics showed a black spider but when it arrived it wasn't all black, thought it might have been a juvie. Anyway, the thing died a while back.

good evening everyone. i have a chilobrachsys unknown sp T sling that was given to me as a gift. the problem is it is really small.

i think it is about 1.5cm long only.

this is the picture

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

is it doing ok? i feed it with chopped meal worms and make sure teh substrate is damp to the touch.

is there anything else that i should do or shouldn't do?

thanks. it is my first T.
*
Congrats on your first T! rclxm9.gif There's no need to chop the mealworm, just make sure it is dead so it won't burrow into the substrate. Don't worry too much about it, most beginners overthink it which can cause more harm than good. Just give it food, water, a place to hide and clean up the leftovers; and let it do its own thing. Welcome to the hobby!

thank you for the kind words of wisdom. to be frank i'm a scorpion keeper and having such a delicate creature(the tarantula) in my care is really keeping me on my toes.

i just hope that it will molt soon and be a bit bigger so that i can relax a bit.

can you point me to a care sheet for this species and what sp do you think it is.
*
Don't know what species it is but care for a sling is pretty much the same as any other sling. Keep it humid but not wet. You can start a burrow for it with the flat end of a tweezer or a pencil. Hole should be just big enough for it to crawl into. They will take to the hole and expand on it. Eventually they will seal themselves in and molt. Which should be around once a month for that size (for the non slow growing species) Slings will stop eating when full and often won't eat again till after they molt. They will normally reappear a few days(sometimes much longer) after they molt. If you are comfortable in the room, the temps are fine. Keeping it slightly on the warm side will speed up their growth. Don't disturb it when you find it on its back- it is molting. Don't go digging it up to check on it if it disappears for a while (if you start the burrow all the way to the bottom of the container, you might be able to check on it without having to disturb it) That's all I can think off right now. I'm sure the others will chime in if i missed anything. Good luck.

Interesting article on sexing

Added on July 28, 2009, 1:25 amMore venom....
Freshly molted P. regalis- thought this one was a male based on the dorsal markings but the pattern in the white area of the butt seems to be getting lighter with each molt. What do you think? Male or female? I have a skin - will try sexing it later tonite.

sorry for the bad picture quality of my last post.

i hope this is much better.

user posted image

i have moved it into a container that is more suited and also made a hole in the soil. this morning find it hiding inside and already spun its web at the mouth if the hole.

how do i provide moisture. do i need to spray the side of the container or the moisture from the meal worms is sufficient already?
*
Good job- looks like it is on its way to settling down nicely. The webbing is a good sign. rclxms.gif
As for providing moisture- use a spray bottle and give the side a squirt. Every once in a while, eyeball the substrate- if it looks dry, give it a little squirt. tongue.gif

Well your sling definitely has those big @ss spinnerets that Chilobrachys are known for. And they are big time webbers. Give it a couple more days and the whole enclosure should be covered with webbing. Still have no clue what species your sling is. Talk to the guy you got it from- see if he knows which country it is from. Might have to wait till it is considerably bigger before trying to ID it.

Bookmark the following link, it might help you ID your sling when it is all grown up. smile.gif
