one question from a winmo/htc newbie....is flipping the phone to landscape kind of slow? i've use a friend's iphone before and when you flip the phone sideways, the display switch to landscape pretty fast (less than a second) but on the TD2, there seems to be a lag of a couple of secs. sometimes flipping back to potrait mode takes even longer. is this normal?
*
this is because WM doesn't have native rotation support so there's basically a program in the background that's polling the sensor to see if orientation has changed and then flip the screen

thanks for the info guys!

i found a program called gyrator 2 that can set the polling duration. it does help somewhat with speeding up the flipping

Link

Changing it to poll more often just means that you're asking the processor to do more work, more work = less battery life.

So you have to ask yourself, do you really NEED it to rotate the moment you flip it?

Added on May 15, 2009, 3:53 amLet me help with some of your problem bengjiun

1. Yeah, it sucks ass.. there was that new ROM, but it got pulled after being released for a while.
2. By default HTC only set the thing to autorotate in Opera and when typing SMS, there's a program that allows you to configure which other apps will be autorotated. But since I didn't download it I can't remember the name right now. Let me check and see. here we go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487991 I haven't used it myself so not sure how well it works but people on the thread seems to be saying it works well.

3. I guess if you keep your music on the main device you need to copy the file to the ringtone folder, the songs I use for my ringtones are scatterd around my memory card and I can choose them from the UI
4. Always wondered why people need the lock key for a PPC since the screen is off when it's stand by and the power button isn't easy to hit (ok.. stupid pouch makes it kinda easy to hit) but.. Programs Menu -> Settings -> All Settings -> Personal -> Buttons -> End Key and you can set it so that holding down the hang up button locks the phone
5. why is it that shiny stuff always attracts oil?
6. ......
7. yeah.. but it's easy to find a converter, one of them comes 'free' in the speakers that came 'free' with your phone.
8. it's not a case, it's a tube with a piece of cloth on the other end!
9. Yeah hate the fact they removed a way to see the battery indicator by tapping the top.

Hope that helps make you enjoy your D2 a little more

QUOTE(bengjiun @ May 15 2009, 01:16 AM)
hey guys can recommend any software to monitor internet traffic.. think i surf too much on maxis 3g.. but dont know the usage.

BTW.. i've loving and hating this phone.

bad stuff

1.BAD RECEPTION for wifi and phone
2.stupid winmo does not fully take advantage of the G censor. landscape mode only works with opera.
3. Music software a bit dumb and not intuitive. very cumbersome to add songs. cannot choose music as ringtone. need to manually copy the music file into the ringtone folder.
4. no lock key function.
5. fingerprint magnet
6.expensive...really expensive sad.gif
7. no 3.5mm audio jack
8. lousy phone case that comes with the unit
9. no short cut to battery indicator

Using 3G influences your power consumption a lot. If you want to use 3G, just remember that if you're in an area without 3G the phone will keep trying to find 3G signals and use more power.

Same with WiFi, especially since the D2's wifi is default at Best Performance, which is quite high.

And then of course.. what were the contents of the webpages you browsing at?

Added on May 18, 2009, 10:57 pmQuick note to users of the Diamond 2, the D2 comes equipped with FlashLite 3.1 which seems to be able to support up to Flash version 8.

that means in supporting browsers it you'll be able to play flash games and.. watch youtube videos from the browser itself. with a few caveats.

- it's slow (or I haven't found a proper game to test it with)
- forget about playing games that require moving the mouse without DRAGGING, cause remember.. our touchscreens means we're always dragging the mouse when moving.
- It sucks a lot of juice when running Flash.
- you might run into certain problems entering text into Flash textboxes, switch to the default Windows Mobile keyboard (the small ass one) to enter text. For example.. when you're trying to book tickets from GSC website's flash interface.

So.. which browsers seem to be workign with Flash

- Iris (http://www.torchmobile.com)
- Pocket Internet Explorer 6

Opera DOESN'T want to load the plugin.

I recommend Iris cause PIE6 tries to load EVERY Flash movie on the page which isn't good in certain situations. Whereas in Iris's case at least you can decide which plugin to turn ono.

If i'm not mistaken, the shop told me 1-1 exchange within a week.

For those who do not know about Microsoft My Phone service, please visit

http://myphone.microsoft.com

Looks good for those who doesn't like outlook contact manager sync... smile.gif

Basically with MyPhone you can sync your contacts to the internet instead of Outlook, and of course you can use this along with your Outlook sync.

one thing is that my phone syncs online at night automatically through the DATA line by default, so be aware of that if you don't have unlimited data.

RADIO in the ROM version means the phone radio, ie. GSM, WiFi, etc. etc. not the radio radio.

bro, thanks for the tips. how do i turn off the 3G? cant seem to find it in the manual also.
To turn off 3G (remember to turn it back on when you need fast data)

From Touch Flo Home Screen
Settings Tab -> All Settings -> Personal Tab -> Phone -> Band Tab -> Select Your Network Type -> GSM

By default it'll see auto, if you want to stop your phone from dropping to GSM when 3G is weak select WCDMA, this is NOT recommended for voice calls when you're in a weak 3G area, calls just keeps dropping, cuts off, etc. etc.

im using TF3D 2 for my xperia too.. for me to turn off 3G and keep constantly in EDGE/GPRS.. i go to settings tab in TF3D, then click communication. then there is 8 options and i choose off for 3G.

in my communication manager got these:
airplane mode
phone
bluetooth
wifi
microsoft direct push
data connection
3G
internet sharing
Comm Manager can be customized, the default Touch Flo does not have 3G and Internet Sharing options.

There seems to be some *slight* reception improvements with the new ROM, I still don't see as many bars as I did on my Diamond1, but I don't find any problems while talking on GSM, it's always 3G that's a problem cause Maxus 3G is very weak in my area.

The reception feels bad because when you compare the number of signal bars that appear on screen with the Diamond, the D2 definetly has less. Personally I can see that it definetly not as sensitive to 3G signals, so you'll definetly feel that 3G calls suffer poor quality especially if you're not in a strong 3G area.

Personally for myself I don't care too much about how many bars of signal strength I have on my phone as long as I can make and receive calls properly and so far its
- GSM : Works fine like any other phone
- 3G <- I don't use mix mode, I always directly hook on to 3G ONLY : Pretty poor, very hard to maintain a call when on 3G, but then again my office in Kelana seems to be on the edge of Maxis 3G coverage so that just makes the problem worse. Also.. I don't actually make calls in 3G, usually i receive calls in 3G only because I got a call while using the phone as a modem.

The so call radio update ROM does not seem to VISIBLY change anything (ie. signal strength bar still low)

Summary is still, I have no problems making and receiving calls when on GSM, works just as well as other phones.
And on 3G, it's just as bad as any other phone I have! tongue.gif I find Maxis 3G to be very poor in the areas I'm in.

is thr default chinese input software install? i need to type chinese. pls advise.
*
YES. For the first time since I've started using HTC phones, the Diamond 2 ACTUALLY COMES WITH CHINESE SUPPORT!!! Just PinYin and the ChangJye (not sure wat the enter by strokes method is called) only though, if you want characther recognition you'll need Chinese Star.

HTC has been having Chinese support CE Star since dopod 838pro. if it doesnt come in your CD, u probably bought an overseas set
*
The chinese support was never in ROM, you always had to install it seperately. For the D2, it's the first HTC device I have that has in ROM chinese support. no need to install CE Star anymore. That's probably why there's no CE Star on the disc, only Sprite Backup.

From wat i noticed, TD2 is definitely a gal killer with its charm looking...
I have a prob in ActiveSync my pda with my PC... my PC just cnt seem to detect my pda : ( .. No matter how many times i plug in n remove it frm my USB port. Any advice?
Thanks a lot  biggrin.gif

open the activesync app on your phone then plug it in, do you see it spining for a long time before saying failed?
do you have a firewall installed? remember to allow Activesync or WMDC through.

Easiest way to check if you have a firewall issue
Start -> Settings -> All Settings -> Connections -> USB To PC -> Uncheck Enable Faster Data Synchronization.

This disables communication using TCP/IP it's slower but if this works then it means you have a firewall blocking the connection.

U mean a chinese rom, or chinese supported by default in an english rom? if its the latter i'm really surprised. its SIS original set right, for our region?
*
Yes Chinese support is included in english rom by default. Yes my phone is a SiS original from our region. On the input panel you can see "A4 Intelligent Input" <- in chinese, so you can already read and input Chinese from a HARD RESET on the Diamond 2.

That's why I've been saying this is a first for HTC to actually include this in the ROM!

yeah, because it's not needed anymore. But the included input does not include chinese handwriting recognition.
