I just had my PS3 not able to detect any blueray disc. I did a quick search on google and read that if you press the eject button on the console for 10 sec it'll reset the lense. I did it and it work. I was just about to break something.

So you guys who have the same "unable to detect disc problem" should try this first. After 10 sec the blue light will blink.

thats interesting.. but no luck for me.. doh.gif

I heard the latest 80Gb version has 2 laser lens

Lens A : BD Lens (BD Games & Movies)
Lens B : DVD/CD Lens (DVD Movies & CD Audio)

I guess this would be a better unit, at least when BD lens spoil, DVD/CD still can work.

Those with problem reading BD can try DVD / CD disc and see whether its still working?? I m just curious.

Hey, today a woke up to a red flashing light on my ps3. I wondered wut it meant, searched it on google and found some pretty bad news. DEAD. after about 1/2 an hour of trying to turn it on i search a fix on google, but came up empty handed.

i decided that i would take the matter into my own hands. i took the hard drive out and turned it on, and to my amazement it work i dont know how, but it worked. i then wanted to play resistance fall of man. i booted up the game and boom it turned off beeped 3 times and the light flashed red onece again.

i took out the hard disk and booted it up again turned it off and put the hard disk back in. ive been playing ever since and it seems to be working fine. just thought that id give u guys a heads up, to help anyone else out there with the same problem.

And just in case we didn't get the news right the first time, we got another email from MXACE a while later:

hey yesterday i woke up to bad news, i turned on my ps3 by the swich in the back and about 2 seconds later it beeped three times and the red light started flashing. after trying to turn it on for about 1/2 an hour i realized that it wasnt going to turn on...

i did some searching on the web and found nothing but 360 had the same problem. heres the interesting thing i found a ''fix'', all i did was take out the hard disk, and turn it on to get my game out. then i put the HD back in and turned it on. it worked. i booted up a game and the same damn red flashing light came back on.

i repeated the steps and checked to see it the game would work now, and it did! im currently useing my ps3 to write this. i wanted to let you guys over at QJ.net because i couldnt find a fix anywere and maybe if you post this ill end up helping someone else.

I apologize for bringing up this thread. My PS3 suffered the same fate as TS, today. Was downloading Dead Space demo this morning, and suddenly the system shuts down by itself. I turn it back on and the green light appeared briefly, followed by a very brief yellow light, and lastly a blinking red light. Took the hard disk out, turned it on again and still the same results. I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones because I'm aware that this is a rare problem. My warranty expired already.

My PS3 is a 60GB SG unit. Purchased on 16 August 2007. RIP today (29 November 2008).

The failure rate is very low. Like, less then 3%. Your very unlucky to get it.  Unlike RROD which was close to 30%. Now RROD isn't so bad anymore from all the addons though.
*
ya, very low rate for the failure.. thats for the hardware faulty, dont forget bout the len's faulty.. sweat.gif

@Rezuan78,

Ya, bro. Nampak gayanya mcm tu. cry.gif Takpe, satu hari nanti aku akan kembali di PSN. Tp tak tau bila. sweat.gif
@MYKidd and jsc_tidus,

I did some googling and found that no one is sure what's the exact cause of this red blinking light hardware failure for the 60GB PS3. Some said it's due to overheating, some said it's due to faulty Hard Drive, and also it could possibly be due to a faulty power supply. It's mysterious don't you think?
*
i think it has something to do with the operating system of the console.. + the old air ventilation of 60GB version makes perfect combo..

not when exploring, but in loading la, but its still just a fraction of a second, so consider it as a loading time la.
