For YLOD, unless and untill SONY can pinpoint the exact causes and make a product recall if the situation so requires, at the very least SONY should consider taking the approach of Microsoft....to extend its warranty. Clearly it's a problem which SONY has yet to identify.
Sony is losing enough money in their PS3 business, furthermore their parent company also not doing well in this recession, asking them to extend warranty is like asking them to throw their vault cash into the sea.
