For YLOD, unless and untill SONY can pinpoint the exact causes and make a product recall if the situation so requires, at the very least SONY should consider taking the approach of Microsoft....to extend its warranty. Clearly it's a problem which SONY has yet to identify.
*
Sony is losing enough money in their PS3 business, furthermore their parent company also not doing well in this recession, asking them to extend warranty is like asking them to throw their vault cash into the sea. M$ on the other hand, is loaded with $$$, pay 1 billion dollar for RROD repair also not a pinch icon_idea.gif

aih, used to criticize Xbox 360 for its RRODs, but soon M$ introduce 3 yr extended warranty, alternatively the repair costs from 3rd party also cheaper. PS3: YLOD: repair costs: OMFGWTFBBQ 50:50 shakehead.gif

is the PS3 System software aka "firmware" stored in the HDD? coz its 160MB in size and the only reasonable place is HDD

so to downgrade it, just need to reformat the HDD?

and also how is the repair procedure if the update install progress is kantoi-ed by TNB...

during the earlier ps3 lifecycle, all firmware are stored in the nand flash

now, they use both nand and hdd, maybe due to newer models have less nand than the earlier models.

if bricked during the flashing, i've read that sony themselves cant repair and theyll just give a new console/refurb unit. no source btw. no pandora for ps3 to unbrick like psp
*
my question is what happen when power blackout occurs during firmware update?

can it be recovered?

if that can result in unrecoverable brick, then it will be much more returned units for PS3 than Xbox 360, I quite worry that also, coz TNB you know, sometimes people steal a cable nearby the power box, also result in power failure. All in all, Sony shouldn't make a system so fragile if that's the case

there were reports of bricking caused by power outage during the flashing. i am not aware of any fallback or failsafe mechanism to protect from this issue. maybe it has been patched in newer fw, maybe it hasnt. i cant say for certain.

bear in mind that ps3 is not designed for malaysian market in the first place.

there is also quite a number of unexpected power blackouts in US, some people are just that unlucky to install the thing at wrong time

huh blink.gif

no its not about during downloading, its about the period when it is installing the firmware file into HDD and NAND flash

guess i need to buy UPS for this purpose sweat.gif

CECHE is using the 90nm Cell..
so, basically still rarely seen YLOD reported for 65nm Cell based models

40GB models are using 65nm.. also got YLOD doh.gif

now just wait if CECHK got any YLOD so far

Guys,

YLOD is not caused by the fan or CPU or board problems. It has been proven over some blogs and even official Playstation sites that FW 3.0 has caused the severe attack. Its a f scam!

And to add further, those happy lads with 3.0 beware of 3.01 , its another f'ing scam..you'll encounter freeze during some games or your PS3 might just RIP

To resolve this entire issue , FW 3.02 has the ability to resolve the issue according to articles,( read it few days ago) missed the links.

Sum up: Overheat, CPU crashed or burned not caused by enviromental issue, its a pure FW issue. And Sony has let their hands off this issue ,and hundreds of users are suffering the breakdown.

To add to the embarrassment , Sony technicians are not trained to fix the FW issues or so called YLOD! What a shame ..

From,

Frustrated user!

any source to back this up?

I know some YLOD cases are caused by latest firmware, but you claim that it is totally unrelated by overheating, then how are those consoles which were able to be revived using traditional repair methods?

in general YLOD is a symptom to show that something is wrong internally, whether it is overheating, or corrupted flashchip, or wrong firmware, anything

it is not necessary means overheating, the recent FW outbreak might cause newer form of YLOD hmm.gif

btw, most of the infected ones are 60GB, 40GB, pre 2008 consoles...

Sony's conspiracy to force people to buy Slim PS3? hmm.gif

xjugak sean...kebanyakan yg kena nie ader kaitan ngan either GPU & CPU yg guna chipset 90nm...

dari link yg datte provide kat aku nie aku rasa nie ada kena mengena ngan chipset dia coz

klo tgok 20G 40G 60G 80G yg kena tu pakai GPU 90nm chipset...

klo nk buat kajian senang jer buat satu poll thread list up model mn yg paling byk faulted leh tau terus dari situ... hmm.gif

yeah lets hope so..

once being bite by snake, forever you scare to see a rope..

previously i dont care about those YLOD issue, coz i have full confident on sony product (my ps1 and ps2 still playable until now). After i kena, and when i search through all those forums, reading on those victims experience, now i know how frustration when you're really in that position...

To those still yet to experience YLOD issue, i sincerely hope that your console can last as long as possible, and enjoy your gaming time as much as you can smile.gif
