iianm that video is fake, that dude press the freakin power button twice.. try that on ur slim u gonna get just like wut u saw in the video
*
i think that video is true.

Mine one (fat 40GB) which encounter YLOD is like this.

You see. When you press the power button, it will flash green 1st, then flash yellow, then blinking red, until you press power button again it will become red still (standby mode).

Stop making those assumption if you never encountered YLOD before. Anyone has this problem before will know this video is true. The dude press the power button is to stop the blinking red to made it to standby mode (red still), so that he can show you yellow light scenario when he try to on the console again.

@seanwong - its true that ive never encountered ylod, but i did clarify in my early statement with "iianm". geez..
*
no offense bro. Apologize if my posts did sound like a bit aggressive.

Perhaps those who have encountered YLOD can share my view on the video.

Arggg that is the feeling when your console automatic shut down while you playing games, start blinking with red light, and your 1st thought is WTH happening and trying to press the power button, where it goes back to standby mode (red still), then you press again it turn green and you thought you can play again.

Then within a sec the console flash with yellow light, then red light, then blinking red light again. No matter how many times you try it just repeat the same thing, YOU CAN'T ON THE CONSOLE!! cry.gif You just realize that there is something wrong on your console and here the fear begin.. grumble.gif

the frustration is really unbearable sad.gif Until todate i still can remember how i feel when i encountered YLOD the 1st time...

I have the same thought like you before i encountered YLOD, when i watch those video previously ("this must be fake"; "Sony product is reliable and unlike Microsoft one"; "Maybe those ppl are overplay the games too much thus overheat la" and etc.), but now i know it is genuine case...

Just to share with you bro sweat.gif

like i said, its like mending a punctured tire. its a never ending story.

am getting a MY Slim. next time, i can send directly to sony.
*
The thing is...Nelson as well as Tim also claimed that the YLOD is due to recent fw update that corrupt my CPU and GPU thus giving wrong instruction to cut-off the cooling fans thus lead to overheat and YLOD...

But i saw your guys post here said that it is a general hardware failure, nothing related to fw update...

Really i dont know what's the real cause of my console that just bought 1 1/2 years....more suffering is...i already bypass the warranty period shakehead.gif

Looks like i gonna save money to buy MY Slim, just like what you said... sad.gif

i know you told me b4..

But still feel sad when it happen again..It's like your loved one just pass away, then you are given a 2nd chance to revived her, but at the end she still left you...the pain.... sad.gif

With so much good take care, and put it in a air-cond room, i still helpless to do anything..WHY ME WHY ME? i keep asking myself cry.gif

So guys do enjoy your gaming time as long as possible, my sincere advise.

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Oct 15 2009, 01:51 PM)
this is my personal take on this whole fiaso, YLOD, can happen to anyone. Just like AIDS.

its a general hardware error, where the system flashes a generic error and not indicating

the real cause of the error. So far, the most popular reason is the mobo needs to be reheated

so the solders can be rejointed etc. Harddissk boot failure too, is one of the reason. And lets

not rule out the error cause by KO'ed power supply. Very2 general. I have read in various forums,

those people who sent their machines to Sony*read, Sony, the makers of Playstation brand* will 80%

received a refurbished unit. Some of them do receive the same unit. That shows that, even Sony, rules

out the possibility to repair that 80% of the machines. And these people know the machine inside out.

Send refurbished machines to customers, extend the warranty and viola, happy customers.

The only catch here is some of those people send machines with BC feature, and as we all know, Sony

does not produce machines with BC feature now. I leave that to their business strategy team to brainstorm.

In short, even Sony does not repair YLOD 100%. I believe, they only repair those they can repair (aside from overheating prob)
*
Ya that is what i read from other forum too.

Mostly they get refurbished unit when they send back to Sony.

Now watching the video on Slim can also experience the same thing (YLOD), despite with its more cooling mechanism and power saving. I have lost my confident on sony product already. Previously i thought sony product is more reliable coz my ps1 and ps2 still playable without any flaw as at todate but now maybe i need to change my mind... shakehead.gif

same with me...SG set...how much u repair?? 1st time send to repair??

looks like apart from well know 20GB and 60GB, now more and more 40GB being hit by YLOD...

RM300 repair cost. Now is my 2nd time send over already. 1st time being revived for 10 days only. Now 2nd time YLODed but luckily no need to pay since under "repairing warranty" (lol, got such term? tongue.gif ).

ya...now is more 40GB being hit by YLOD...haizzz...
repairing warranty?? sound good...hehe...got how many days warranty?
me here repair more cheap RM250 but no repairing warranty..tongue.gif
i m thinking where should i sent to repair...sony or local shop??? cause my system is juz 1n the half year old...sad...
how u get ur 1st YLOD???
*
30 days of "repairing warranty" (still find funny of this term tongue.gif ).

What a coincidence. Mine one also bought 1 1/2 years..I think yours is SG set right? if you sent to Sony here, they will charge you transportation cost to be sent over Sg there to repair..be ready for the cost incurred wink.gif

it is out of a sudden i encountered YLOD. No symptoms at all. sad.gif

but dunno how much SONY will charge.....
if not juz take the Slim ver...haha...but slim ver is still in the early stage...haizzz...hard to make decision...
*
if like that good luck to you. Probably you will get a refurbished unit if they can't repair your machine.

if wanna buy slim wait until this month end (31/10) for the launching of MY set. See how much they sell. Then you can made decision there nod.gif

well I guess you can sell it, like my friend already sold his ylod PS3, for RM400..try nego for higher prices
*
Good i thought it's already a piece of rubbish if it encounter YLOD. Looks like it still can sell a good price eh?

well i might consider to sell my 40GB YLOD unit and buy MY Slim later. As we know no matter how many times you revive it might break down again..better sold it and get a new one. At least not pay in full amount to repurchase a new one..

Now i will only wait MY Slim to be release coz i'm more concern on warranty matter. Even if it already expire, i can still send back to official sony here and get a refurbish unit. icon_rolleyes.gif

Quickly launch la, MY Slim cool2.gif Hope it will be price btw range of RM1100 - 1300.

@Jimsee and gr8fr8

I was exactly same case like you bro.

A 40GB that not play 24/7, only play during weekend, and ocassionally weekday, but still can encountered YLOD without any symptom..

And i'm more worst. My console just bought 1 1/2 years only. and until now i can't even have a chance to play U2 retail copy, and dont mentioned about soon to be release title like WE2010, LP2...

can i use back the old hardrives into my new Slim version, so that i can retain back my save files?

Dont think so. Game save file is not transferable. When you put your old HDD inside new Slim, it will reformat the HDD..

gamesaves cannot be retrieved, but DLCs or PSN games can redownload back on your new PS3

if still can access on9, ask your friend to deactivated all your previous accounts in your old PS3

that is as long you still can remember your email address/password then
*
minds telling me how to deactivate old accounts from old ps3? Just delete the user or any specific ways?

to deactivating the system acct, you need to lodging with the designated console itself, if your console can't be turned on or more precise connected to the PSN, say a long kiss good nite laa for that acct, if oredi out of extra slot... sweat.gif
*
in simple word, is that means that i need to log in to my old ps3 and choose the particular user account, click delete it, thats all for deactivation purpose?

if i didn't deactivate it on old console (let say can't on due to YLOD), i still can re-create back the old account in new console right? provided i remember my log in user id and password?
