can i ask for an opinion here??

i was wondering to buy D60kit plus with sb600

but

D5k also tempting lalalala

so any good advise for a newbie like me would be more appreciated huhu

one of this nikon's will be my 1st dslr by the end of this week..... be gentle to me  innocent.gif
*
Depends on what fucntion you need. D5k has video recording and the funky "twistable" LCD, and its MP is higher (although this doesn't matter much). Both doesn't have internal motor to AF.

Other functions that make D5000 more superior than D60 (source from dpreview):
* 12.3 MP CMOS sensor (D60: 10.2 MP CCD)
* Tilt/swivel screen
* Live View with contrast detect AF
* Movie Mode
* Wider ISO range
* 11 point AF system with 3D tracking (D60: 3 point AF)
* Control of Active D-Lighting intensity
* Automatic correction of lateral chromatic aberration
* Choice of JPEG quality in RAW+JPEG shooting
* Extra retouching options
* More scene modes
* Faster continuous shooting
* Exposure bracketing

The bold ones are important IMO. make your wise choice, don't regret after you have bought it.
And try to hold them in camera shop, see which one suits you more.

Kent, you can try out D40 also. Cuz it's cheaper than D60 and you might be able to find 2nd hand D40 from RM1000~rm1300 with kit lens. Don't forget, you need a flash gun (very important and useful) and you might want to save money for other lense.

I am a 2nd hand D40 user, although D40 is just 6.0 megapixels but everyone here knows megapixels do not really matter. For portrait shots, I also recommend 35mm AFS~ Rm800+ if i'm not mistaken.

But it's still your own choice~

P/S: hehe one new photo frm me~
this time's a portrait, coincidentally. Maybe some of you saw this in the photo gallery already.

Wait kimura add you in =)
You can try shashinki.com, see whether they got sell or not.
Or J-One in Amcorp Mall PJ.

I am a di622 user, from my experience it's a quite decent flash gun, strong enough, got attached bounce card, and cheaper than sb600 (around rm450)...

Just one thing, it's big, and the AF assist light is not corresponding to the angle the lens is pointing. visit the nissin di622 thread for more info~

*
Your AF assist light is it accurate? i mean is it on the focal point when shooting in extremely dark condition?
Mine is slightly above the focal point, very annoying >.<

QUOTE(General_Nic @ Jun 19 2009, 11:02 PM)
too bulky?
to some of us the bulkier the better...  brows.gif

lol, actually the story is like this..
I am a follower of a blog, and the blog owner sometimes posts very nice photos. Then he was a D40 user. (now he is using D90) I was very impressed and POISONED and started to have interest in photography.

After SPM i was thinking to get a PNS camera, as i have limited budget. But coincidentally my relatives gave me some angpow for my SPM, then there's one guy in LYN selling D40 2nd hand with a few months warranty left. then i let the PnS go and bought my D40 XD

Talk about when u get ur gear..I got mine when I'm studying degree which is now. sweat.gif

BTW, want to know if want to do wireless flash is it need to buy extra commander? or use pop-up flash by the body?
*
Erm as far as i know it depends on your camera and your flash... like nissin di622, it doesnot support commander system. and like D40, it doesn't have commander system too.

If you use Sb600 flash then you can use commander system, but I dunnoe whether D40 can add extra commander or not.

Wondering if I should get the Di622 or SB-600...
*
Di622 is around Rm450 and Sb600 is rm800+ right?
if price is not a matter than go for sb600, as it supports CLS too. and it has an LCD. (and looks more cool lol)
Some (if not most) di622 has the AF assist light problem, but if you can stand with it then it should not be a problem. Di622 is indeed a very worth buying flash.

Date nic out and rob his sb900, free of charge rclxm9.gif
Opps he heard this already haha~

Get nissin then, i am not funded too, so I choose the one who is kindest to my pocket smile.gif

I suggest you buy your flash gun first, the pop up flash is not flexible and cannot be bounced/reflected.
Anyway, i like 35mm F1.8 also, it's around the price of a sb600. My dream portrait lens T.T
