if u got the budget, why not getting a D90 body wit a 50mm 1.8?? 50mm 1.8 is my primary lens now... n i think itz a good start for beginner too...

Get a speedlight 1st bro, u will be more happy with the result of ur photo.

For me, SB-600 is good enough for everyday use considering about it's weight, size, performance, and price.

Di622 is good enough for beginner lik me... itz a good speedlight if u kno how to utilize it...

u understand me well... 

it doesnt mean that if something costs more it's not worth it & if something else is cheap u should buy it.

For a beginner d5000 user, spend or save up money for a speedlight such as SB600@~rm790 or cheaper 3rd party like nissin/cybertik/falcon eyes@~rm430 + batteries like Sanyo Eneloop or Maha. If u have extra money u can then spend on an extra battery...and later a battery grip.

if you want to spend money on a sb900.. u could also consider buying TWO Sb600 and do CLS.. u can create more interesting lighting options..

Just giving an advice cause some are already questioning whether they should get a flash or battery grip first 

Well it's an option, if someone really wants to spend RM1600 on speedlights why not get two SB600 to do CLS rather than only one flash. But then again you're using D5000 which does not have built in commander like D90/D300, so u need a commander like on SB900 to do CLS.

On bodies with built in commander like D90/D300, two SB600 can be used for CLS.

Well, I find that a single SB600 on a camera works great for weddings/events because it's lighter, smaller and much easier to carry & handle and not to forget powerful enough. No fuss. Nothing wrong with using an SB900 too. I just rather spend the extra RM800 to buy something like an extra SB600 or AF-S 35mm 1.8 or other things..

Just sold my Nikon 55-200VR. Reading this and also considering these options:
1) top up and get extra SB-600
2) Sell my 18-70 also and buy 18-105VR
3) Sell SB-600 as well and get SB-900
4) keep the money for now... and wait until enough to change to D90

I'm open to suggestions.
