The tilting screen should be useful in certain situations like high angle shooting with live view on.

Enjoy your new E-420. Look forward to seeing some nice pics from you. Did you buy the single lens or twin lens kit ?
QUOTE(noob4life @ Aug 5 2009, 08:17 PM) Hey guys... back from some extensive camera hunting. Went to Pudu Plaza first to check out YL cameras... but i was there alittle early ( around 10.30 ) , they havent opened their shop. So i took a walk around the mall and saw another camera shop at the side entrance of the mall. ( forgot its name )... they quoted me RM 1650 for a nikon D40 kit... crazy. Then took rapid lrt to Pertama Complex.... went to find foto selangor... also no more stock. But then i decided not to give up lol and went to sungai wang instead.... Checked with Boeing Foto... also no more stock... But the nice lady working there let me try other entry level dslrs ( i decided to try it cuz their prices are reasonable ) ... when i held the E-420 in my hand, i had the feeling this is the camera im going to enjoy using lol. Tested it and loved the feeling/speed/lightweight. RM 1699 with a nice E-system bag, DigiEye 4500 tripod, 2gb pendrive Compact flash and hoya 58mm UV filter. Illegaldragon and general_nic thanks for the advice though. |

Just sold my Nikon 55-200VR. Reading this and also considering these options:
1) top up and get extra SB-600 2) Sell my 18-70 also and buy 18-105VR 3) Sell SB-600 as well and get SB-900 4) keep the money for now... and wait until enough to change to D90 I'm open to suggestions. QUOTE(alpha_company @ Aug 7 2009, 07:57 PM) Just giving an advice cause some are already questioning whether they should get a flash or battery grip first Well it's an option, if someone really wants to spend RM1600 on speedlights why not get two SB600 to do CLS rather than only one flash. But then again you're using D5000 which does not have built in commander like D90/D300, so u need a commander like on SB900 to do CLS. On bodies with built in commander like D90/D300, two SB600 can be used for CLS. Well, I find that a single SB600 on a camera works great for weddings/events because it's lighter, smaller and much easier to carry & handle and not to forget powerful enough. No fuss. Nothing wrong with using an SB900 too. |

Heard from a shop here that the 18-200VR II will be launched at a price of around RM 3200. So how much effect it will have on the old one.. I'm not sure. Anyway... decided to wait out these 1-2 months and see how it goes before I do any more upgrading.

I wonder what the use of the Yellow "tupperware" diffuser is. I saw it at a shop. I currently have a white one. In fact... I got mine for RM 40-something too and I don't think Pixco is considered branded.

Yes... should give the flash some time in between to recycle. Also depends on how much of the flash power one is using.

Just a note about quick lock legs... they are convenient.. but they don't last as long as the screw type legs.

Canon has dropped the motor system long ago. That's why the Canon system is called EOS (Electro Optical System) there is no in-body motor for Canon. All canon's EF lenses have built in motors. Nikon on the other hand has an earlier Auto Focus system using motor in the body.
The in body motor for Nikon is important if you already have a Nikon system with older lenses that don't have built in motor. Since this is your first body it shouldn't be a problem as newer lenses coming out will be AF-S. Don't forget that you will be buying into the system and your decision shouldn't be based on the body model alone. Your budget should include: 1) Body (in this case D5000) 2) Standard zoom lens (18-55VR Kit lens) 3) Telephoto zoom lens (55-200 VR) 4) Speedlight flash QUOTE(silver_de_gene @ Aug 13 2009, 03:34 AM) HI everyone. i'm new here and i'm new in dslr too. i'm planning to buy my 1st dslr. i'm eyeing on D5000. some of my friends recon me to buy 500D instead b'coz of the built in motor. is the built in motor really that important? i understand that without the built in motor i cant use AF lenses but only AFS lenses. is that really important? i'm very undecisive between 500D and D5000. can anyone help? |

To sum it up...when you buy an SLR camera... you are buying into the SYSTEM not just the body. So...we must also take into account the cost of the lenses, flashes and accessories.
How was the KLPF ? QUOTE(alpha_company @ Aug 16 2009, 07:38 AM) check some 500D VS D5000 on the net.. another thing that u should take note is the price of nikon & canon flashes.. Nikon SB600 is around rm 790-800 whereas Canon's equivalent is 430EXII which is RM1000+ even the top of the line nikon SB900 is rm16xx and top of the line canon 580EXII is rm17xx i just like the "white look" of most of canon higher end lenses.. most high end nikon's are black which is just normal.. most canon normal lenses starts at 24/28mm which is not wide enough.. take note that canon has 1.6x magnification which is a bit higher than 1.5 on nikons...which means it's not good for u la.. nikon general lenses starts at 18mm which is very very nice la..wide enough for most people.. 24/28mm is not wide enough on a dx format dslr like d5000, d90, 500D, 40D etc.. specs wise maybe 500D body is better but u also need to take into account the price/performance of accessories, flash & lenses for that certain brand too. |

Nowadays the Matrix meter works pretty well and there is no actual need for M mode unless is situations where all shutter speed, aperture and ISO need to be adjusted to a specific level. Moreover the limitation of the D40s full-stop ISO advance (means from 200 then to 400 then to 800 etc...) does limit the M setting. Normally P, S and A work well enough with a compensation of +1/3 or -1/3EV depending on the situation.

Just to note...the SB-900 has a different and much better AF illuminator than the SB-600 and responds to the focus point selected. The SB-600 will work on all points where the lens is set between 28-85mm.
QUOTE(General_Nic @ Aug 27 2009, 11:17 PM) i know wat he is asking, but i dunno y it happens i oni say wat i know, that is the body AF assist lights normally is for low light condition(as stated in manual) this may not answer his question but its jz my comment/opinion n i nvr use SB600, so i dunno how its AF light works but my SB900 AF light always lights up |

I think the D3000 is a much better deal at that price. The 11 point AF system used in the D80/90/5000 makes it a much better body than the D60/40/40X 3-point AF. Image and noise control I guess should be better but we will only know when we use it. Anyway for that price nothing much to complain.

Strangely, the D60 listed here
states the D60 price as RM 2388. Maybe they haven't changed the price or D60 will be discontinued altogether. QUOTE(heLLtuRt @ Sep 2 2009, 08:18 PM) d3000 - RM 2,288.00 (with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR) check at this link - http://www.nikon.com.my/productitem.php?pid=1330-ae86b1ea79 |

I would like to present a different opinion. To me, I would go straight for the 18-105VR and forget about the 18-70/55-200. The newer 18-105 is more than a match for the 18-70 optically only loses in build quality and the 55-200VR micro motor doesn't do much good for the AF. If you are getting the 35 f1.8 forget the 50 f1.8 unless you have budget constraints.
