Sifu and dear forumer out there, previously i have an Ibanez RG270 and it's play fine with me but few weeks ago my house got broke in and my Ibanez is gone! screw the theft... but anyway, i got low on budget then i get to buy a Squire Strat.
To make my thread short enuf for u guys to understand... I LOVE the strat's fret action, feeling, everything.... i play solo with this strat much better than my ibanez... i dunno why but i just feel SO much better than the ibanez... its diff from person to person....
but there are problem, sometimes when i play very rock music like chemical romance...i cant get the heavy distortion sound out of my squire compare to my ibanez. I still use the same amp which is the roland micro cube.
SO my question here is, all the tone from the guitar is effected by the pick up or will the body effect it ??? If its the pick up....does that mean i can upgrade my guitar to sound like a very expensive guitar (if i buy a good pickup). All in all, i love the fret and body of my strat but i would like the sound to sound better than what i have now... Can i change the pick up to an original fender tele's pickup??? to make it sounds the same?

ok ur RG was a H-S-H configuration.. which means , a 2 humbuckers and a single coil. a strat is using 3 single coils. (the tele pickups are also single coils.) U could upgrade your bridge and neck pickups to single coil sized humbuckers. It's shaped like the single coils, but is actually a humbucker. some examples from Seymour duncan. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...ot_rails_for_s/http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...ge/jb_jr_sjbj1/http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...il_screamin_de/im sure there are other sifus that can point u in a better direction than me.

yup, the ibanez have humbuckers, which helps in producing the heavier sound. strats are not really designed for heavy stuff.
remedy: get a hotter pickup, like the above suggestion.
sound wise, yes, pickup and body have certain effect to the sound. no, upgrading to an expensive pickup won't make your guitar sound like an expensive guitar.

There's actually no such thing as 'expensive guitar' tone.. These guitars sound good because every component chosen to make the guitar is well balanced for each other (ex. body wood, neck, pickups,...) Cheap guitars that are properly put together can sound just as good.. So if you have a dark sounding guitar body like mahogany, putting dark sounding pickups like Dimarzio Steve Morse humbuckers will not make it sound better..
Every guitar that is properly made, cheap or expensive has its own tone characteristics.. not good or bad, just different.. It is up to the player to know how their guitar sounds like and then select upgrades to cater for that tone in order to achieve the sound that they desire.

Dark as opposed to bright...... Which means more "bass" feel.

Strats are built for producing a crunchy & jangly sound.

Position 4 on a strat does not really make it a humbucker. You get 2 pickup sounds, but its not just there yet to being a humbucker-ish tone. Something like halfway there

I think position 4 is quite good for classic rock cause the sound is bassy + jangly. But when I play 'Rock you like a hurricane 'by scorpions , the sound cant really match cause the distortion is really high & the sustain ... maybe i nvr use any pedals .. thats why.

Getting Started

You would need alot of mod dude...
Download Seymour Duncans mp3 samples to suit your liking.. Check which kinda tone you would like...becareful when you mix and match the p-ups.. as you'll get volume differences... There are high output p-ups and low output p-ups...
Seymour Duncans website is pretty complete for your whole research in tonality...
I'd suggest a change in amp too... Marshall AVT20X a suggestion..or AVT50X

quoting myself from another post: QUOTE(zeroglyph @ Apr 27 2009, 04:03 PM) errr....you actually think it was cheap . why is it that nowadays people always like... ....wanting to change to active pickup but then when they see the price they're all ? active pickup IS something but it's NOT everything. not again . you actually think it was cheap?
