last time i oso allocate rm5k for notebook ,alwyz eyeing on high end notebooks then my flen keep advice me get a normal notebook mebe ~rm2-3k....then use for 2-3yrs lik tat, change again...by then, who knows integrated mem controller ,entire new mobo architecture is fittin into notebook d....that time ur 'fast' notebook is very louya compare to a even low entry new-from-scratch-tech notebook aka nahelam-based chipset
now i veli happy my magnesium alloy rm2k dual cores notebook, still great improvement from my 4.5yrs solo core centrino ...2-3yrs i change again surely mustb faster than ur rm5k notebook today hehe

An 2-3k laptop even cannot use "now" , so how it will be faster than a 5k laptop after 2 years ?

2-3k laptop can it play crysis with 20fps now ? sure not.

after 3 years a NEW 2-3k laptop u means can play crysis at 20+ fps ?

after 3 yrs we dun play crysis...

who knows by then we re at DX13 already...

A laptop which cannot play DX10 crysis how can even think of DX 13 ? its a dream only..

I heard from somewhere most lappies regardless of brand are equipped with combo DVD/CD-ROM drives that is almost sure to give problem in 2 years time.

I started to believe it as my ex-laptop Twinhead DVD/CD-ROM drive went down in less than 2 years. My current toshiba lappie DVD/CD-ROM drive finds it hard to read data CD in less than 2 years. (watching DVD is fine).

And I hardly use that drive. Maybe pop in a CD to be read ONCE a day, and I burned CDs LESS THAN 30 times in the last 2 years.

By 2 years, the power adaptor also finally give in. And what's their "pricetag" in replacing one? $200++. Even the generic $8 power cord can be found in most PC shops these days, will be marked up by the service centre and $20++ a piece.

No matter what, most lappies will be obsolete after 3 years , and their original manufacture no longer "keen" to support it (if they do, they'll charge like hell), since as what most company do, they only focus on releasing more and more new products to keep up with the competition. Spending a premium on it are meant for those truly rich.

Like the 1 who said buy new 2-3k laptop is impossible to win a 5k laptop even after 2 years , that's a facts.

because a 2-3k laptop can'T even be use presently , so after 2 years , A NEW 2-3k laptop still cannot handle new software & new games of that current years.

I always watch movies and Blue-Ray with DOWNLOAD

so the pain place will be my HDD

Oh, another fella who buy laptop for display,

For eg :

Would u like to have a UGLY wife who is very capable ?

Accessing the DVD-drive on average ONCE daily = too much?
Burning (data) CDs for backup purpose less than 30 times in 2 years = ONCE every 3 weeks = too much?

That's minimal usage already and these drives can't even take the heat.

Now I "shivers" when heard of "COMBO" drives. I'm sure they're cutting down alot of circuitry and cram only the essential features to be called "combo", lower down its lifespan.

if liddat go buy high end wife le?
we dun need pretty2 wife, but we need a capable one le.
u wan a model wife but cannot cook, wash clothes?

Not a good example to compare a laptop ...people & electronic things are different...surely people would love when they have a 'bomba$$' design but what the use if it can't perform well...even a car, do you see a racing car look nice & powerful in the same time?? Maybe some but mostly not...like the anime Initial D, use an old car can also perform what, the design also a bit ugly but still it perform well ..

Conclusion is, depend on the person using the laptop...want a laptop that have nice design with nice specs, be ready to pump-up some money for it..if not just go for what you really want..
