if i open the bios update using wine in linux, would there be a problem?
plus, i'm using cq40-406au (bought from tesco, using amd athlon ql-64), is that bios suitable for my lappie?

Ya...the higher the clock speed the hotter it gets. But your cpu will reduce the clock speed if what you do if not performance-hungry.

Anyone here used ubuntu 9.04 on their cq40? cause I need some help ==
there's no sound from my speaker and the card reader doesn't work in ubuntu? I tried doing the things mentioned here == it says use "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1" but I changed it to snd-hda-ati since I'm using AMD. But still there's no sound...
Any idea I can get this 2 things work?

I installed win 7(64bit) on my cq40 and used the vista 64 bit drivers...so far no problems...

the mic works in skype for me. the green bars are showing in the mic test in skype.

isn't it's 1 of the features called powerplay for AMD? where they will reduce your gpu clock speed when you're idle?

I wish I can use it too...but the amd fusion crashed on my win 7 64 bit whenever I try to use it

I ran the last remnant benchmark at 720 * 480 using default settings(which I don't know whether it's high or low)
and I get around 25fps, and the fps is the lowest when david uses his gae bolg ==
maybe you can make it smoother by lowering the other settings.

about the bios upgrade affecting the gpu core clock, this only affects the HD3450? or affects both HD3200 and HD3450? cos my catalyst shows that it's 500MHz although I'm using F42 bios.(mine is HD3200)

The sims 3 I play on my lappie medium settings at 1280*800 about 35 fps. Anything that have tick I unchecked them.
By the way, I'm using hd 3200.

You can't. As if the laptop is not hot enough. Overclocking a laptop is NOT a wise move.

yup, you can use vista drivers. I'm using them for my windows 7.

First, you look at the size of you wallet. If your wallet permits it, then buy it, if not, then get another cq40.
By the way, how much that ASUS K40 AB cost?

I bet you saw that advertisement on tesco product list, right?

The specs should be same as my lappie(check my siggy), with the exception that hard drive being larger.
