I undervolt it to the specific value the person asked me to undervolt ( in this thread forgot who / where ) .  I think im using CQ40-126AX . Using XP ( fake ). Im in school now thats why i cant  check my laptop model.

I went to a shop and asked the person whats the problem...he told me my fan spoil already. But then, i can still hear the fan sound moving. Donno he cheat me o not.. but he's not the seller. And few days ago, i on the laptop for 1 hour only. Play 1 game dota.. not even 20 minutes it overheat already.

SO.... is this fan problem ? Or hardware problem..? Think dis week go lowyat to dat shop claim warranty adi....sien arhhh
*
If the fan is spoilt, then it wont run. The fan changes speed according to temperature. If you can notice the fan getting noiser during gaming that means it is working correctly. Try to undervolt with less voltage reduction from stock.

I just changed my disk to WD Scorpio Black and the WEI subscore for hdd jumped to 5.9 from 5.3. Too bad they don't have the 500GB version though.

how much was the hard disk and does the system feels snappier?

I got mine for RM299 at viewnet. czone is selling them for RM250 though. According to the czone pricelist it's 8MB cache whereas viewnet's 16MB. So I thought the RM49 difference must be due to the superior cache.

I didn't notice this before leaving the store but on my receipt it's stated as WD HDD SATA 320GB 7200RPM 8MB. I thought I was given the wrong version, so I checked online with the model number and all and it turns out there is NO 8MB version for WD Scorpio black. Should've bought at czone! I guess they didn't know about the mistake on their pricelist since it has been like that for quite a while.

My other mistake is not asking for the free-fall sensor version.
With free-fall sensor = WD3200BJKT
Without free-fall sensor = WD3200BEKT

Product Link

Oh yes the system feels snappier, especially when opening a folder with lots hi-res photos in thumbnails. Oh and the noise level seems just a lil bit higher.

It has always been like that.
*
Thanks for the update. Maybe SSD is the next big upgrade but will cost half of the laptop's price. RM250 is a good price for a Black. I might consider getting a 7200rpm too. How about the heat? Mine 250GB 5400rpm is doing around 50C during normal usage.

Nice scores for a Black. The HDD ventilation is quite bad. I think the default 5400rpm can do around 50MB/s with 18ms seek.

Is your system under 100% load. Maybe you need to undervolt it using k10stat to reduce temperature.

there is any way instead of adjusting the voltage?
any reliable cooling pad? or any update of the driver that can reduce the temperature?
i'm scared to the heat...lol
*
IMHO, the cooling design for this laptop is very poor especially the base so a cooling pad wont help much. Using cooling pad will increase power consumption even though you can cool the laptop. The best way is undervolt because you dont sacrifice any performance. Updating driver wont help much but BIOS may help.

I think should be ok if set at 800x600 with lowest settings. My i7 desktop cant even run the game.

i think my 401ax is too slow man. feel like changing a new gaming lappy. is it possible to change the processor? around how much if change to better amd proc? such as phenom.
*
Dont expect laptop to perform as good as desktop. The cpu is soldered into the mobo and phenom is only for desktop. For a gaming lappy, Maybe you should get something like Quad core, ATI HD 4800 or GTX 260m. Anything less than that would be too slow for latest games. Gaming laptop will cost more than RM5k which is more than twice of 401AX.

I think 3-4 days is quite fast for repair. If you send to repair yourself maybe takes 1-2 days but will cost a few hundred bucks. I rather send to HP and they might replace a new one for you.

can we switch the laptop screen off if we attach to external lcd?

should be full HD 1920x1080. You can select only one output, mirror or extended desktop. I have tried 1080p movies no problem but I dont think games can run smoothly on 1080p.

I dont think CQ40 can handle that game. Prototype is not so heavy on graphics but requires multi core CPU. A quad core CPU is required for smooth gameplay.

Possible but maybe with lowest settings at 800x600. I would play those games with desktop anytime because laptops are not for heavy gaming, especially latest games.

anyone have issue/difficulties regarding to the touchpad??

it seems that i can't live with that glossy touchpad. shakehead.gif

I have to admit the touchpad is not that smooth especially if your fingers are dry. I use mouse most of the time so not a problem for me.

BSOD is normally caused by Ram chip failure or overclocking, unstable voltage. Did you us k10stat to under volt? Maybe too low voltge is the cause.

3 base driver missing for Win 7 should be card reader and v.90 modem. Just install Vista drivers from HP support and it will work.

4GBx2 according to service manual. I dont see any point going for more than 2GBx2. In fact with Win 7, IMHO 2GB is more than enough.

Actually the shared memory technology is flexible. Maybe max 894MB can be shared but that doesnt mean 894MB of your system RAM is gone all the time. most apps and even heavy games wont able to utilize more than 512MB. So the amount of RAM use for graphics changes all the time, according the load.

maybe the wifi antenna wire is loose. i suggest u open the wifi pci-e card compartment and check it(nearest to exhaust fan). update to latest drivers through win update too. you cant compare to other laptops because antenna config and wifi card is different.

Which windows you are using? If Vista, you might need to use Mobility Modder to mod ATI driver, if Win, use the latest Catalayst beta from ATI site.

Not sure what OS you are using. If XP, you need to install East Asian Language pack and add Chinese keyboard through Regional settings. If Vista/7, just add additional Chinese keyboard in regional settings.

I think XP is not officially supported. Maybe u can try XP drivers link provided in first post. I'm not sure mobility modder supports XP.
