Here's how you measure filter capacity.. not by how many fishes it can support IMHO.

you need at least 4 to 6x turnover...

For example, if your tank is 100 Litres.. you need a filter that has at least 400 Litre/hour flow rate.

And then the media also comes to play, Bio media would be best. ( bio rings, ADA Bio Rio, etc.)

I'm not scaring you fongzai, it's just experience that tells me 30+ fishes in a 1feet is no joke!!

Many LFS would tell you, "Sure can 1" " no problem as long as you got change water" "etc"
- bottom line, here at the forums, we don't earn a single cent off you. at most sell 2nd hand equips or livestock waaay lower than market pricing.

But how long do you think you can keep the n02,n03,ammon. levels low? change water everyday can la. but I doubt your filter could mature in time. Even If I were to oversize the filter for a 1feet tank.. the water volume won't be large enough to support 30fishes! lol.

Feel free to correct me if you really think I'm wrong.

Drew

Added on September 27, 2009, 7:55 amoh at max i would keep around 5 CUC and 10 decorative fishes..

(around 13~15 fishes should be fine if you have a strong enough filter IMO... )

@ adrian. its waaaaay harder than CRS SSS grade IMHO. they're priced highly for a reason. Good luck with that smile.gif
(though seriously, be successful with SSS CRS. then think king kong lol)

Why? Coz theyre all selective bred and are very sensitive to the surroundings( water temp, chemistry etc)

Even though they are worth a lot of $$ your market wont be penang or malaysia. you think us locals would spend over 1k for a shrimp? lets say rm 500 also can d. Can also not a lot right?? Thats why I breed at most SS grades nia lol.

@fongzai, those guys, change water every 1~3 days. Just saying, and they won't really get effected if one or two die.. they intend to sell it all out anyways.

Believe me or not. your choice. I've seen people go trough a 1ft with 30+ fishes. and still make it. So I wont comment further. It's up to you to believe me or not. smile.gif ( these fellas though, to add, eventually give up and say its too time consuming and demanding)

nice wei... later wehn more hair grass then give me some la.
that one is not SAE la, is CAE, chinese algea eater. SAE wont like that stick on the wall one, it will swim around one.
and different look one.
if better get otto, is a superb algea eater.

wah, nice canister le... where u bought it? 1st hand or 2nd hand? how much?
*
Err.. those 2 fishes stuck on the glass near the thermometer is Ottocinclus sp.

In other words, ottos. Yeap he Mis-IDed it to be SAE.. but it's also not CAE..

Drew

Added on September 29, 2009, 2:05 amand we need a proper picture of that SAE to actually see if it is true SAEs.. not "flying foxes"

not so sure about those white spots though. no experience with those.

@ cata, suggest not to get TOO many SAes and Amanos, later not enough algae they fight for fish food.. a nice number would do.

I like the way kev sensei think, don't think why CUC not working, think why is there so MUCH algae in the first place! Though everyone will get algae somehow or another..

Yes and NO to the both of u, Lilly pipes does not lower the flow rate.. It lowers the concentration of the flow by diffusing it wider across the tank tongue.gif

In other word's, too much flow? this would help, but that doesn't mean it lowers your filter flowrate haha.

Hey, just getting back to you regarding the signing up issue over at my-mac.net.

Which nickname did you register under and under what email? Did you receive any confirmation email or the sort?

Trying my best to smoothen things out at that forum. It's the pesky admin-approve system for gmail.net.

I've replied your my-mac entry. though I think people would start flaming the fact that it is 6gallons and 30fishes! lol.

Definitely it is caused by something in the water.

All the best.

@fongzai,

Try to have another WC, and do you use any anti chlorine?

Drew

Added on October 5, 2009, 9:55 amand if you can reduce the number of fishes, or even better restart with a proper cycle.

@fongzai

not to be mean or anything but, did you reduce it or did it reduce itself lol.

Anyhows, how about going for 6~14ish at most? Still a bit on the high side but sure beats 30fishes! lol. A picture would be lovely.

okay here's something about the wpg, if you have been lurking enough, a lot have claimed that use of T5H0 is waay more efficient doubled with a high quality reflector..

Lets just compare.. a 2feet tank.. best size for PLL is 55w. t5Ho is 24w while i dont really know everything else. LOL

t5h0 tubes are thinner, you can fit more into one casing. Whereas PLL are more.. well big.

They say if you compare a PLL 10w to a t5H0 10w, the t5H0 wins. why? with a good reflector, and it being thing, light can be dispersed better troughout the tank.

So this might be an option for you biggrin.gif

( I haven't tried this myself, all my lighting are PLL or MH only lol)

HMm moss with 36w alone is enough ..

But grass, depends what grass are you talking about, sufficient c02 and temperature always play an important role..
