may i ask.
ballast for t4/t5/t8, PLL, PLC etc same or not?
plan to DIY lighting for my tank using PHILIP 865 PLL.
but after 'jalan2' at jalan pasar i saw many type of balast.
DC,AC, e-balast. dont know which one to buy.

and i saw i LFS there sell ada soil by weight.if i not mistake amazonia & malaya rm10/kg. amazonia powder rm20/kg.
*
ballast not same i guess... i also not sure... haha..

as for ADA soil, if u are using it for 2ft tank above, better buy 1 new packet ADA... KL area can get around rm80 per packet (9kg).... powder is a lil more expensive though...

1. For a 16x8x8 inch tank, how much lighting is needed in W?

2. The plants are sold in a bunch with a cylinder shape thingy covering their roots. We r are suppose to remove that cylinder thing before planting?
*
1. around 20-30W is sufficient...

2. yes and no... depends on what type of plant and the scape u planning to do... for blyxa japonica i prefer them for be 1 bunch... lolz...

QUOTE(fongzai92 @ Sep 10 2009, 10:02 PM)
my tank is 1FT x 1FT x 1FT... i looking for 20W++ for it..

btw.. any differences between normal light that we use in room and the AQUARIUM light ?

Added on September 10, 2009, 10:03 pmand i cant found a FAN CLIP for my DIY-ED pc fan.. i connected it with 9V dc adapter.. work like charm... cooled me around 2-3 degree... but i cant found a clip for it...
*
no difference... room light also can use... table lamp also can use...
well of coz if u buy more expensive aquarium light, there are PLC, PLL, MH, etc. to choose from... those are more expensive, reserved for bigger tank and higher end application such as chuppy's 3 footer...

i use hang shirt clip to hold my fan nia... sometimes not strong enough the fan drop into the water... laugh.gif

QUOTE(blinded @ Sep 10 2009, 10:39 PM)
Bought it for RM200. I think larger tanks are cheaper because can hold more co2 but I don't have the space to store them.
*
i jz sent my 6.98kg tank for refill... rm50... mahal siot.... but at least i dont need to travel to KL.... next week only can get... slowpoke....

bro, i saw this type of fan at jalan pasar selling... but the end of the wires dun have any plug...

my question is, how do u connect to power supply & what shoud i buy for the plug?

i will show later mine that i bought, not so expensive fan, around 20++ comes already with plug and the fan quite heavy as compared to urs type, stated have some ball bearing inside... ur type is much cheaper but i dunno how to connect it hehehe...
*
this particular fan is cooler master pc casing fan... rm15... expensive ooo.... but it has higher cfm compare to normal 5bucks pc casing fan.... datz why i using it for my shrimp tank... to create stronger water ripple...

jz buy a 12v AC-DC adaptor lo... potong the end connector and wire it to the casing fan... vr easy only....

after sometime need to remove the fan and wipe away the dust... same la like ur house ceiling fan... accumulated dust reduce the fan cfm...
