Dear Sifus,

May I know when is KL AV Fest 2009? No?

I'm thinking of buying an AV system (budget < Rm2k) with speaker (budget < Rm2k), should I wait or buy from those shop (eg. Desa etc..)?

Thanks.

Thanks Weelar,

Do you think it is cheaper to buy during the AV Fest 2009 or from the shops?

AV Fest?
If you are willing to buy something outdate a bit... yes... CHEAP.
If you wanna get stock overrun things... YES. Very cheap.

Other than that, do your homework first by going to shops and scout around for what you really need and what you wanna buy. Get the best price and wait until AV Fest. On the day, go back to those shop and bargain again.

What is cheap there? Audiophile CDs are cheap if you know which one you need.

If you're buying cash, you can haggle more at the fest and easier for you to compare price between traders. But if you wanna use 0% interest or card, it wont differ that much.

Timothyy,

Thanks, also to Aiz1j & cmw_kwl_6923.

You mean I survey the prices at those shops, eg. 1 week before AV Fest and then on the 1st day of AV Fest, I go back to the same shops and ask for discount? Or go to compare the price at AV Fest, then go back to the shops?

Stock overrun? even in AV industry? hmm....hope it worth waiting!

Anyway, I guess I have to wait till July ! (long way to go, about 100 days to go, to get my AV setup! )

Thanks again.

normally the stuff from the av fest is more cheaper, you need to do some home work to survey excatly which model you are really intrested
to setup your av system. rclxms.gif

No choice, you have to wait until july, safe your pocket money mah~~~! Everybody at the moment also facing the sensitive isuue. icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif

Better get a dedicate dvd player although PS3 can play dvd but the lens is known to spoil easily. So no point playing dvd in PS3 as DVD player is so cheap now.

Thanks. i think i will just do that. smile.gif

By the way, saw your setup. Using Mission speakers.
May i know where and how much you got for the center and surround speakers?
Actually currently i have Mission 732 speaker which i bought long time ago when study in UK.
Maybe will combine both audio system and home theater in one.
therefore i might setup my front using the 732 and add sub, center and rear.
hence now intrigue to know more abuot your setup. tongue.gif

Mission Center M3C2i is selling for RM390 from CMY Penang. Surround I got it as packaged with the center which is total RM950. So if 50:50 split will be around RM425. The surround I bought it in Style Photo Penang.

hahaha, AV fest is a sure pilgrimage for me every year. like the muslims going to mekkah, i go to AV fest every year to cleanse my ears, hehehe. pay 10 bucks to go in and also parking cannot remember the price,

well for those who wanna get good bargain, yes you would get some nice bargain especially in package items, usually every year desa has a hall that clears plenty of old stock items, but who cares, as long it is the item you want it is great, also watch out with some distributors throwing great prices for old speakers , usually got some ppl will do that, u will like blow your eyes away, but do home work as everyone says, then collect the money, then wait, if you cannot get what you want you also need to find replacement models, so you dont disappoint going there,

AV fest Guarantee better than PC fair !!!!!!!

with the economy slump, i guess they will probably try to clear as much as possible in the fair.
I doubt that newer models will be their front liners. They might be setting up overstocked systems, and selling them cheaper. But who knows.. I hope I'm wrong.

nowadays the cd's are also not very cheap like a long time ago, well those days the organizers themselves will give you one free cd, of course old songs, some were good, i had a led zepplin tribute given to me for one of the hifi shows that were still in legend hotel, a long time ago, there was a chinese singer as well, the sound production was great, i had deana yusof album as well too, if you know who she is, well those were the times of AV shows, known as MAS, Malaysia Audio Show, back to history again, i was still young, dont have the money, knew little about audio, was asking stupid questions, well those were the days, i had a chance to meet up with Kondo San from Audio note Japan, before he passed away, sometime ago, it was fantastic, i didnt know what he was talking all about his design, but it was informative, he was talking about his Ruthy 4 speaker,

i had also met with Phil Jones of AAD those days when he first brought his AAD brand into malaysia, those speaker design were really ugly, it didnt sound pleasant that time, but thiking back i had met with some famous ppl in the years of audio shows. they were great,,

Yes, those were the days. I have been to almost all the AV Shows for more than 13 years. Back then, there are 2 shows. One is by Star and the other is NST.

As years passed by, the show is getting more boring. Only thing is that it is convenient to do a comparison since all under a single roof.

SR6003 is not an old stock. It is current model. Unless, there is a replacement model.

Since I have nothing to buy and only saying 'hello' to some pals there, I will go on Friday. At least not so many ppl.

Added on July 19, 2009, 11:09 ambtw. this year, what are you guys looking forward to ? i, m just wondering a sweedish statement company, what do they sell and represent ? someone new. there is meridian also, and hopefully can get to listen something cool, also i wanna catch a listen on the entry level avalon acoustic entry level speaker. hopefully cmy will bring something memorable this year. like the naim dbl. or maybe we get to listen to a 6 million dollar setup? but i think a nice highlight would be perfect hifi toy speaker range. that should be a bomb. and. the toy would sell like no other sale done. the only thing they need to do, place the speaker in a nice room and give a nice promo like 3.0k cash for 3 days only! introduction offer, also tong lee would be the same. consonance, and conrad johnson. and VR speakers. looking forward to harbeth, nice cool speakers. and ,most importantly paradigm speakers, this one is a must listen to me. what else. hmmm loads of list. well lets hope for the best as everyone says this year wont be a good one. but i think it should satisfy most of us.

Swedish Statement, IIRC, sells Bladelius products.
I seriously doubt that there is any chance of getting the Toy at 3.0k.

hd stuff probably led TV and then new projectors, and probably new AVR amps. there really is nothing much in HD. just the visual, and some sound difference, but if you talk about stereo, then there is a lot of difference from company to company.

Last year there was a B2G1 offer for blu-ray movies, not sure from which company. But right now Speedy is having a B2G1 offer as well, if just looking for BDs might just as well go to Speedy instead (no need to pay entrance fee). biggrin.gif

extract from topgun,

its not exactly true, i believe data/spec is a bit inaccurate..... (something like that) when attending 1st training session after nights out at pup

few years back, nearly swipe for a 2nd hand linn classik, retailing for RM2500.00 w/o multi room one,

one month later called back, see whether still have stock not, was told its now RM5k(2nd hand) following the increase in Singapore, but no stock

SO stick around n shop till you drop biggrin.gif

DVD sales also for old movies lah... R3 and low quality disc reproduction. using D5 disc and probably the original Price is RM 17.90 ... so they actually less RM 3 only. Moreover don't expect the special feature lo.

Do you think they will reduce RM 56.90 movies to RM 14 .

Just got back from KLIAV. Lots of stuff to see especially for audiophiles. entrance fee = RM10 and there's an immediate lucky draw....from which I got a lousy PEN.

For those out to get a media player, Dvico has a room showing the M7000A, M6500A and a host of other NAS solutions to support the player including an interesting device called the "Toaster"

Lots of DVD titles and some BD titles available with the latter from RM79-RM99. I got myself Ironman (RM99) and The Patriot (RM79). For those looking for Michael Buble and David Foster & Friends, its available at RM62 but at the stall nearest to the final exit (note that there is another stall selling for RM75). Sadly, no Botti.

Signing off.....

Lots of people are asking whether its worth going or not, I will try to contribute as I just came back from there smile.gif

Note - This is my first time blush.gif

First thing first - Entrance fee confirm RM10. 'Frickin' hell' if you ask me coz used to the free for all PC Fair. No, there's no water bottles. All you get is a 'mystery gift draw'. And I won a bloody PEN. Well, at least I got something to write with for the lucky draw coupon ... blink.gif Other 'gifts' I could see are DVDs. Some good titles there I might add but cannot buy mad.gif

Unlike the pasar mlm PC Fair, this fair is more for AV Enthusiasts. In fact, there's only 2 open floors, the rest are hotel rooms for brands/distributors to showcase their respective products. Excellent settings for enthusiasts to go room to room to experience different SQs.

For bargain hunters and Noobs (like me), I suggest you do yr research and equip yourself with a shortlist of brands and their best pricing. More than 50% of the brands there are alien to me, and I end up looking lost and intimidated. Forget about searching for the best price. The prices listed are the usual inflated ones. Know your price and offer it instead of asking.

I ended up with a happy note though. I got a 1909 with a super-cheap price which I am sure I could never get anywhere else. And I got it not from the listed 'discounted price' but by saying 'wah, so expensive meh, so and so is selling at RMXXX'. That got them excited and threw their price. Those looking for Denons can look up AV World.

Also, got some older titled BDs @RM59. Some are selling for RM69/RM79, nothing our forumers here can't beat smile.gif

Check out also for some bargains audio CDs. Some are discountinued titles, going for RM20 - great for collectors, while others are as cheap as RM5.

Conclusion? - Well, it was worth it for me as I got what I wanted cheap. AV Enthusiasts will love the orgy of products showcased. Amateurs better know what they want at what price, else, no point. And I still think the entrance fee sucks sweat.gif

Happy Shopping, guys.

Are you sure it's Mission M3C1? I think it should be M3C2i. Some people buy 5 units for L/R/C/S. I think CMY offer 5 units of this speaker with the Denon amp.

ok here is what i think of this year,
entrance fee the same since 1993, ok no problem with that,
not so many leng lui compare to pc fair.
the best speaker i think on show is german physics, this one, if you are there you must experience what audiophile is all about, talk about dynamics, timber balance, warmness, impact, this one has it all, powered by moon by simaudio.
the most best looking speaker goes to mcintosh and acapella, i think i got it right. the best most powerfull amp is the mcintosh 200 watter, something new is monuel, that is HTPC, which cost 5.5k it is basically a pc,
but the casing is huge.
cmy as usual, anl as usual, dynaudio is very dynamic also, i didnt get to listen to sweedish statement and also TAD, which is on the exiting part, they tutup kedai liau,
there is no ls35a this year, less home theater setup, splendor is good also,

i spent my time listening and discussing in Desa home on the mirage omni 350 speaker. price now is at 2600, if you have the money that i think it is a steal.
sadlyno paradigm and psb arround, a lot of amps for sale, in cmy, a lot of dvd and cd player in clearance,
the best dac was ayre acoustic usb dac, this one can compete with 20k cd player, they have htpc with them as the source, i think the avalon acoustic made a mistake, they came out with the low end entry level spekaer i think it is not worth the value, nothing special, probably after listening to german physics this one no more umph,
bladieus and marten design is the same, something different is gryphon diablo, very big and very handsome,,
cambridge audio usb dac selling for 1490, i think i might get that one,
for car audio there is a honda stream ripped of the middle seat and place a 32 inch lcd tv into it, this one is weird,
i think the most stupidest setup is pioneer TAD on the entrance level, they use a small little room for the TAD speaker and place the big room with the small HITB speaker, stupid,
mcintosh i think receive the most number of participants, the seats are all full at any time,
somthing new is JAS audio, not a bad speaker, the rest are usually yearly ritual, tong lee as usual at the corner with pasar malam style, sonus faber with audio research, pro ac with naim audio, focus audio with densen,
the other speaker must listen is harbeth, and ATC, this one will kill you,
also appearing is audio space pushing the YG acoustic grandprinx .
very interesting show, a must go this year, some new some old,

Added on July 24, 2009, 11:46 pmhow much do you think the toy is selling, 6000 bucks, 6k man, you can get best price at about 4 k plus, i think , i can get about 3.8k hahaha,, i thought can get 3000 today, tak boleh

Mostly Hi-Fi system for this KLIAV Show.

A&L Dali is impressive  rclxms.gif  thumbup.gif  Chat with Atven, Hong, Rick (manning Focus Audio on upper floor 7th) and the rest of the guys there.

I forgot to take some photos of Dali  doh.gif  You guys should go and have a look. The Sonus Faber at Perfect Hi-Fi is sexy.

Btw, Optoma HD82 really  drool.gif but out of my reach. The WKH booth is nothing much apart from the insane price. Managed to take a peep at Furutech stuff. The price tag  rclxub.gif

hi, for those that attended the show, are there any good satellite/subwoofer 5.1 combo bargains there?

dunno what's the selling price for the Aego-T or KEF KHT series over there, might pay a visit on Sunday evening if I could get back in KL on time...

Test out the Audica CS3 series Last year retail at RM7k now at discounted price of RM3.2k rclxm9.gif .... Global Eaudio on Level 8,
They are clearing stock as CX 1, 2,3 coming in

Have tested, Seems very powerfull even on stereo, going audition again 2molo biggrin.gif

For me the Best AV setup is still the Pioneer at Level 3 think Nanyang 4 Ballroom
for stereo, if you want true life concert, scale/impactness,
its mc'intosh- Audio perfectionist (level 7) TAD-Level 4
normal would be marten design by Swedish Statement (Level 8), Gryphon, Weiss by Rave system (Level 8)
Naturalness is still Harbeth (found Audio Note to overpowered, might be due to setup
many more... no time going back Saturday

Which model of German Physics was it? Expensive?

One word about the McIntosh XRT1K, marvelous.
Throw anything on it it'll just sing with no stress. I'm not quite knowledgeable on hifi, but that's the best I've heard.

As for PJ, the JVC DLA-RS2 is a winner for me.

Came back with an stereo interconnect and a power conditioner, audio cd's were tempting but i tried to stay away.

But it was very packed up, oh yea htkaki i met your brother there.

My dad damn lucky!!!

I accompanied him to get new HT setup and gave him advice. Ended up buying Onkyo SR606/Jamo 5.1 Set and a Philips 42" FULLHD. Total cost around RM8700.

He bought it at Desa Home Theater room. And when the Desa people swipe his card, the Approval code came out and the last digit matched their digit. So he now got RM4400 voucher to use on his next visit to Desa Home Theater.

How the promotion work? As long as the last digit on your Credit Card receipt approval code is '8' , you get a voucher worth 50% of your total purchase price. Said voucher to be used on the next purchase and valikd for 1 year.

So since his purchase price for his TV and HT set is RM8700+, he got RM4400 voucher.

Now he dunno what to buy with the RM4400 already smile.gif

DAMN LUCKY!!!

bro, got good price for stereo interconnect and a power conditioner?
*
Bro, not to say very cheap, but it's ok, I've got an extra copperhead if you wanna try.
as for the conditioner, i bought a bada, the furutech are only for US type plugs since i'm still a newbie couldn't afford those yet.
You jumped into BD wagon already? heard that the bd60 is less than 1K from another forumer, need not wait till Christmas, I'll be joining in pretty soon. In a month or two i guess.

hi,
Anyone found any good deals at the show for 5.1 speaker packages.
I am looking for something like Q-Acoustics, PSB and any other recommendations forumers here have.
My budget ~RM2.3k

thanks
*
Not sure that they display any entry level, do you intend to upgrade those speaker in near future or will that be you budget stretch.
If you plan to upgrade in near future, I'd recon that you buy the piece you like the most and work yourself to the whole set.
I saw Q-Acoustics there but forgot which floor, i think it's the LG floor, PSB not seen on this fair as lone*wolf said

bro, once again, I said, it's impossible I would say, to sell at RM900 cause it's way below cost price. Try asking ALL the sellers that are selling it in AV fest. Well, not to condemn the seller that you post earlier, RMxxx can be RM1k. can be RM1.2k, does a single x signifies a single digit? Doubt so =)

And having said that, if you think the price is RM900, why would there be so many people buy from us still? Hmm, if you didn't know, we sold quite afew units ytday =)

Firstly, I think the reason why iamsobloodysick can sell the BD60 @ 900 is because those are the units bundled with the TV. I think he separated it out for those buyers who want lower price for TV only. Maybe that's why he can sell the BD60 so cheap.

The RM1400 you mentioned for the bulb, that is full retail price right?

he manage to sell at RM900 because it was a plasma bundle, he sell the plasma and bd-60 separately, so his cost is not a bd-60 cost, it is a bundle costs. talking about panasonic distributor - iambloodysick is also a panasonic distributor. calling yourself a panasonic distro and not knowing stuff about this, is kinda idiotic don't you think? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif if i were you i dig a hole to hide my face already.... hahahahahaha embarassing man!

This is true. I went on friday hoping to get a Yamaha 565 reciever, the only one I saw was at Desu home theater and they wanted ~2400RM for it but yesterday I went to their shop at Low Yat and it was 1999. Seems a bit shady.

Yes, I did see some of the Harry Potter titles there (4th floor) but din see them in combo sets though. On first day, those titles were going for RM79. I'm sure its cheaper now and perhaps even lower later.

*
Of course it is impressive. Did you peep at the price tag? brows.gif

He is hunting for stereo amp. He might be buying Krell to partner his SF spkrs.

Oh yes, hopefully there will be a new booth with a 'new' brand for our domestic mart wink.gif

Just got back from AV Far. I think i was the youngest person went there. Other people mostly 30+ to 40+, lol.

Bought 3 cds

Gingerbread boy - LA Connection, Gregorian Chamts - Songs of Queen and A Sophisticated Lady is Leata Galloway.

All 3 just RM20.

There are locally released original BDs now, distributed by HVN, the disc is pressed in Hong Kong. It's not the same as the Deltamac release, that's for Hong Kong market.

Sometimes these local original BDs have exactly same cover as US version, but I notice the print quality is bad. Those cheap BDs are highly suspected. And sometimes got Malay subtitles too.

However, some US version BDs got Malay subtitles as well even though not printed on the cover. One example is Unbreakable (Bruce Willis).

the best speaker i think on show is german physics, this one, if you are there you must experience what audiophile is all about, talk about dynamics, timber balance, warmness, impact, this one has it all, powered by moon by simaudio.
bro, i agreed with you. this was the best setup that i heard. according to the salesperson, the speakers are omnidirectional and the whole setup cost > RM400k.

not sure got other setup cost more than this?

rick wong said, anyone who has 200k now put on the floor and take the entire setup back including the wires, hahaha, if i had i had taken them already.
anyway that was the offer just now, imagine the speaker, moon amps and cables and also all the racks at 200k, i think it is a steal,

the speaker is very dynamic, and great in impressing your cocky friends, and make their head come down abit,

actually the marten design supreme was also very good as well, marten design setup i think more expensive then german physiks, but the speaker is different,

the other thing i find interesting is the sunfire speaker system and sub. very nice, reminds me of velodyne,

so there goes the KLIAV 2009, for the past 2 days that i attended, i didnt regret much only that i was not prepared to buy many AVR items that were on sale, so much that sometimes you wonder, if spending so much money on the AVR you buy, then all you know during AV fest they throw price like crazy, very bad sometimes, no value, cannot sell to upgrade, but anyway overall i had 2 chances to listen to german physiks, and the very good chance to listen to kondo ongaku, which is so different from the rest of the setup, it is a world of its own. no rock, no bass, very very quiet and calm music, so soothing.
i only bought CD;s DVD's, the cd's ok lah 10 bucks only, i think some of the hifi cd is too expensive, they probably mark the price up then give you a 20% discount, giving you no choice but to buy, i refuse to buy, i rather go to the shop and buy, same price after discount, so i rather not support the cd seller, i support the hifi equipment seller,

and if you realize, on friday, they sell DVD like david foster at 40, today they sell at 45, they say wrong price, so i fought for 40, in the end dapat also,

i also bought RCA caps from C&O Telos brand, sounds good,

Yes the Mac's really created an impact, very impressive tho,....with its scale
But haven't anyone notice, its as though a giant is singing with gigantic instruments, (not like any live performance, where one is singing to you
on the other hand,i find/believe its not properly calibrated, at times i find instruments... example guitar, strumming say at the top height of the speakers behind ( as is.... the guitarist, is sitting on top of the ladder strumming.with guitar strings 2" in diameter... haha haha haha very funny... but its true

you mean the Telco's RCA, its teflon coated on the inner. seems to reduce something or resonnance.... but
it really tightens and strengthens the overall sound, (not so noisy)
if its the telcos, try the speaker plugs, if you have bi-wirable spk inputs, but using a pair of cable, plug two 2 at the other,
Guarantee.... you wouldnt want to take it out... biggrin.gif

i bought it in Ipoh, in a bundle purchase, but price tag is RM130 (10 caps)for the gold ones

1st choice , yes (a must) to get the spk caps, very effective, better than RCA

Yes,i was loan a sony 350 and a MA RS6, well maybe i have debited some $$$ in their a/c ( but even b4 that they say can loan for testing also)

Edited
anyone using satellites speakers and play CD using pure Direct which bypasses the DSP.

in this mode, does the subwoofer come to effect also.

if subwoofer is cut off how do satellites play normal audio in stereo mode
thanks,

sorry posted in a few relevant threads

when plug in the empty speaker holes, it tends to push back the energy back, thus creating better sonics, separation and more dynamic impact, but not noisy
overall you get a very much controlled and balance sound

Edited,

I have it on my RS6, really a lot of difference,
No way i'm removing it... (not paid yet)... sad.gif

instead of banana plugs you push into the speaker sockets, you use the speaker caps as terminators (without the wires)

small 1 is wat model ah?
big 1 cannot afford.
sub also not bad, probably due to small room space. got punch.

btw, sunfire really not bad for movie.
big room, small speakers ,BIG sound!
sunfire sub 8" inch only, i think can win many 12" woofer.
not sure how abt audio listening on it. never try b4.
but price cant afford. expensive to me.

Anyone seen this, Marten Coltrane Supreme. Most ppl missed this coz it's near to the exit i think.

It's a crazy piece of s**t. Heard the salesperson said only 5 pairs sold in the world. Each pair comes in 4 pieces, front is High and Mid, rear is Subwoofer. The Speakers are driven by vitus audio CD Player and AMPs. biggrin.gif

In-Front:

Marten Coltrane Supreme - Main Towers

Frequency range 90-100000 Hz +/- 1.5dB,
Power Rating 300W continuous and 1500W peak,
Driver units:
4 x 7" CERAMIC-Woofer,
1 x 7" Lower CERAMIC-Mid
2" DIAMOND-mid
3/4" DIAMOND tweeter

Back :

Coltrane Supreme - Subwoofers

Frequency range 15-100Hz -3dB
Power Rating 800W continuous, 4000W peak
Driver units :
6 x 9" CERAMIC woofers

Each pair costs RM1,200,000 IIRC biggrin.gif

Hardware aside. How do you find the audio room layout?

I found it quite noisy, especially the Hi-Fi room is next to the HT room rclxub.gif

I think the organizer should alternate the Hi-Fi room with empty room and separate the HT room to another floor if possible. I don't mind to pay a little bit more on the entrance fee to enjoy the music, instead the noise rclxms.gif

Yeah, very noisy, i had to come out from my chair and close the door myself at one point hehe.

It's the same everywhere throughout the fest, all the room doors are opened, very hard to really hear the setups. Sigh sad.gif
