I thought you said "im considering to buy a 6 series"?

Then now become YOUR DAD?

People who can really afford this car and keep this car in their garage, they will not care for the fuel consumption. Unless you are a person who just pay for downpayment and few months later sell off the car, purpose is to show off to people for few months.

Well, sign most of us here can only dreeeeam of such cars, why not look into this review from Top Gear....

http://www.topgear.com/uk/bmw/6-series

As qouted from the page,

"The BMW 6-Series is a well-sorted, huge Coupe that does everything with typical BMW aplomb.
But even its mother thinks its looks are ‘challenging’."

Why not just buy the M5.... 4 doors, more poweeeeer....

Boy, how far can you travel a month?
RM2500 of petrol can last u at least 10000km.
Divide that by 30 days, an average of 330km per day.

Which if you still have no idea. Is equivalent to driving from KL-Penang.

But for the sake of your safety, literally. Don't buy BMW, cos it's one of the favorite of robbers & hijackers.

Get something less popular, like:
Alfa Romeo GT Coupe
Benz SLK 280
Audi TTS
Porsche Cayman S

These cars are going to be problem free as long as you serviced them as per schedule at authorised service centre.
Cost of maintenance?
It's peanuts compared to the car price.
Surely you can afford.

the V8 sounds thunderous.... the handling.... simply one of the best cars....

but since your heart is already with the 6 series, go for it....

mate, this is a very good car. doesnt look old. power and stylish. u got the right choice. get a black 1 or white 1.
this car cannot compare with those subaru, evo, nissan or honda. 6 series is one step further than all these brand. go get it, but becareful of ur safety, coz this car is very eye catching. i think 6 series is better than M3 in term of exterior. else u can consider CLS, CLK, SLK, audi TT. all are elegant.

6er has been around for a while. BMW might probably be thinking of the next gen.

i'd say m3, but seeing that you're still a kid, you'd be safer in a 320i, tbh. if i had anything more than 2.0 when i was your age i'd have been wrapped around a tree.

it could be a troll thread.
however, of course ppl should care abt fc and maintenance, even though it's sponsored. it's still money, and it still has to come from somewhere, and chances are, it's not unlimited.
my petrol is completely taken care of by the company, but i still watch the fuel consumption gauge and try to drive efficiently when i can.
my maintenance is completely taken care of by the company, but i still shop around for places to fix the car at a lower cost, and have opted to ditch the more expensive runflats. i have a mental image of how much fuel i use a month, and i've been hoping to keep the maintenance budget under 10k for this year, but i've failed miserably there cos it's over budget and it's only april now sad.gif

fc/maintenance/road tax/insurance/loan repayments... they're all valid points to consider when choosing a car.
but really, i'd rather google everything up instead of asking it in here, or i'd try the bmw forums instead.

@TS
u are lucky to have a good parent that provide a car that other people can dream on .asking about pro and con is good.but it is a bmw and 6series somemore.not much cons about this car cause people actualy praise it.that mean it a damn good car.seem ur parent give u the car and give a petrol money,so just take it.ur just 17 and i dont see u can be a good son just saving the petrol money?if they can give u 2.5k/month,that mean they can give u more than that.for maintenance, spare part or etc,plz dun care about that.its not that u will pay for it.did u?
if wanna be a good son, just take a good care the car and show them how much u appreciate it.
about maintenance/road tax/insurance/loan repayments or etc ur parent know about that.
p/s:u 17,dont think too much.just take it.

is it brand new or a recon one?
as someone said the 6 series has been around since 2003. bmw might have been preparing for a new model already.
is it 630i?
645ci is more common(easier to get at the importers)..
but a 17 year old driving 4.4L v8 engine? even 17 year old driving 3.0 is insane enough

Long term...

If you're driving it everyday, you better consider other cars. If you're only using it for weekend ride, then it will last for 10 years or more. But then, money is not a problem eh? You buy 1 Swift for weekdays commute and a Porsche Cayman S for weekend ride. Cool?

srsly, this is not too far-fetched, there are a lot of people in this country with money.
heck, even i've had the pleasure of having some cars i've probably shouldn't have had before my time.

now, the E63 6er came out in 2003, about the same time as the E60 5er. we know that the F10 5er replacement is coming out around 2010. one can assume that the 6er replacement would be around that time, and indications are around 2011. mules are already being tested.

so consider that the car will be current only for the next two years, and if you intend to keep it for a decade, you'd be having the previous generation for the 8 years after that. and also that the E63 is kinda fugly haha.

also consider that the 645Ci road tax will be quite hefty, and I've had a car with the exact same 333hp v8 inside, and it's an engine more suited for cruising around gt style, crossing continents in a day, and not really vroomvroom m6 style. I've also had a car with the same engine as a 630i, which really should be quite sufficient actually, if a tad bit underpowered.

but yeah, the advice i'll give you is exactly what i stuck to when i found myself in a position kinda similar to yours very recently:

1) buy european
2) buy a new updated model early in its lifespan
3) buy for classic looks, not for cutting edge
4) buy for reliability, reasonable cost and ease of operation

i very almost picked out the new m3. even now, i'd absolutely love to have it. but there are so many other cars out there that are worth looking into, so why don't you have a look into them.

1) don't think of all the hype when testing cars. don't think of what other ppl say, just make your own assessments about how it drives. what clarkson and all the other wannabe-clarksons say are only guidelines, and not rules to be adhered to. after all, when you buy a car, you buy it for yourself, not other people.

2) a 6er looks way more middle aged than a 5er i think. but really, other ppl's misconceptions about how old a driver should be when driving a certain car is crap, and it should not matter. so disregard what i say when i say the 6er is fugly haha.

3) you're 17, young and impressionable. you want people to look at the car, and what ppl think about the car and about you is important to you. just remember, when you buy a car, you buy it for yourself, not other people.

em...as per your WTA thread; well 6 series is alrite. 2.5k on FC is sufficient (say em.. 350 per week X 4 = 1400, the balance; spend on clubbing) but subject to your driving mileage and driving method. this is not 2.0 engines.. wink.gif

if u want to consider other car, perhaps Audi TT 3.2 Quattro.

100km/h wont consume much if ur RPM below 2.5k
RM2.5k is enough unless u wish to travel 200km daily

6 series is a decent car, if u talk abt 'actions' on high speed y not consider M6.
anyway, satisfactions demand are subjective.. as long as u r happy with the car.

if u getting a new unit, no worries

if u getting a 2nd hand unit, good luck

have fun!

word of caution though, especially about high speed action: m cars and 17 year olds aren't always happy stories. you can google around for that 17yo that killed himself and 3 other buddies in his dad's m5 on some runway in the states.

i'm sure u can afford that 300k top up for m6 wink.gif

anyway.. i must agree with Roland. Regardless any car u drive, once u are above that 80km/h, the car is in control; not u. it doesn't matter u gonna attend the adv driving course, but alwayss be ethical and responsible driver.. not all road is meant for speeding. n control ur ego and temper
it's easy to speed..easy to drive the car.. but .. trust me, it's not easy to handle a car at high speed.

i'm sure u can afford that 300k top up for m6 wink.gif

anyway.. i must agree with Roland. Regardless any car u drive, once u are above that 80km/h, the car is in control; not u. it doesn't matter u gonna attend the adv driving course, but alwayss be ethical and responsible driver.. not all road is meant for speeding. n control ur ego and temper
it's easy to speed..easy to drive the car.. but .. trust me, it's not easy to handle a car at high speed.

well, ive considered the m6 b4
but upon seeing the price tag i was like shocking.gif
300k is a lot you know blink.gif
nyway, thanks for the advice

not even 80km/h. back when i was OP's age, i was a bit more inexperienced, and a lapse in judgement/concentration led to me accidentally hitting the kickdown switch on the SL. mid-turn. in the wet. luckily the playstation/gran turismo skills kicked in instinctively and i opposite locked my way out of that, but damn was i close to planting the car into oncoming traffic. i was doing 30-40km/h, and not in control of the car, and the oncoming cars about 60km/h, so you can imagine the sum of all speeds involved would mean some wrecked cars.

anyways, no adv driving course or training can prevent recklessness, that is the driver's prerogative to use good judgement. also being on the roads every day is a adv driving course in itself haha... good luck OP, there's been some very good advice here interspersed with the trolling.

Why not opt for a Nissan GTR? Now that's really cool and fast too! But not sure how reliable it is in the long run ... but you can still change cars right?

Btw, you anak datuk or tan sri ah? Affording a RM700k at your age, that's really a lot ... some people can't even get that working a whole life lol

I'm more than double the OP's age and I like the E92 M3 or 335i much better over the 630/645i. The 6 is a GT cruiser, while the 3 is more raw and exciting. I tot young 17 year olds will prefer the latter. But if daddy gives me a 6 i also sapu ler.

Better bring along daddy's banks statements.. The test drive might not happen when you tell them your age and pull up at the dealership in a 2002 wira.
