1) if money is no problem, UK in my pov
2)it differ from countries, unis, locations, etc
3)having a better experience? better quality?
*
I understand money is always the problem for everyone. For you information, you can probably try twinning program. This will save you more money rather than going there directly.

There are many college in Malaysia which give overseas twinning program. What course are you interested ? and Where are you living currently.

You will get different exposure which I can guarantee because UK have a different culture and also weather. This will allow you to gain experience and to be more independent.

What do you think of going community college?? Is it worth going there?
Btw Magentus, where are you currently? Malaysia or overseas? biggrin.gif
*
Do you mean community college in UK? Most of the community college provide course like english and nothing specialist. I am currently in Malaysia. I just got back from UK. I have been living there for 8 years.

You are more than welcome to PM me if you need any personal advice which you don't want to share in the forum

Depends on what language you know or willing to spend at least a year learning, what subject you plan to take and what you can afford.
Depends on where you live: Nasi Lemak is RM4.50 in Taman Tun but RM6+ in KL.

Example, for Sheffield, UK:
Rent: £45 - £65 /week (lower the further away from the city centre and Uni you get)
Food: £30/week (assumes I don't eat out, buy from the market in town and make my own three meals a day)
Utility Bills: Greatly varies depending on number of housemates, provider, usage, etc.
You learn of at least one other culture. This will make you less an ignorant American and a more informed person. Television and music can only tell you so much about a different country; actually living there will give you a much bigger picture. You adopt the good and be aware of the bad, and if you do ever care to come back to Malaysia you'll bring those lessons with you.
*
Great Reply, Where are you based in UK.

I would like to know about the living expenses in UK. As we know rate of Sterling is high, lets say i spend about rm500 on food per month here at around ss15 subang jaya..how much will i spend in UK..for food.

Can also state down the rental rate there if possible..thanks =)
*
It depend where you are living. You will pay higher in London. Average the rental is about 150-250 pounds per month.

Then the food you can easily spend up to 70-100 pounds per month.

Where are you looking to go to study

Thank you for your reply. If you look at the map, Reading is located very near to london so you will be expecting to pay an additional 30%-40% to what i have mention.

I have many photostated textbooks which I would love to bring it with me to UK. What is the best way to do that ? I fear that it will be confiscated for plagiarism

For your text book - how many books are you bringing, if it is only 1 or 2 it is alright. Besides, are u serious u wan to bring books because u will only have 30 kg limitation, dun overload as they will charge u

Also, should I buy book in Malaysia or UK ? which one is cheaper or is it the same ?

In uk there is alot of website which you can buy cheaper book e.g. www.amazon.co.uk and waterstones. Waterstone provide 10% discount for students. Besides, during ur course, ur lecturer will provide you recommended book to read for your course and that time u can decide whether to buy or not.

Should I use courier service to send my text book ? which courier company is recommended for UK ?  DHL ?

You can send ur text book if u feel it is really a trouble DHL or Fedex are good enough but i don't recommend because it cost money and u rather buy the book in UK. Check how much the price is in UK first, u probably decide to buy there.

Interested to know about UK.
What is the latest requirement for visa application esp. on money needed in bank account?
let say we want to go without any sponsorship, how much money should we have before hand for visa application to be approve.
given situation, where parents also already retired. so parents money also is out of picture.
but we're planning to be working there. e.g husband go there for studying, and wife eligible to work fulltime.
should the wife should be applying for work while still in malaysia, or can apply when already arrive there?
*
For your information, if your husband is studying the wife will be able to work full time with the dependant visa.

When you are applying for visa please ensure that you have enough money in the bank for at least 6-8months living expenses in UK round about RM30,000- RM50,000 at least this figure.

In term of work, you can look around and apply, it is better to apply when you are in UK because u get to see the company and get use to the environment before start working over there.

Will be going to UK this sept. But im wondering which uni should i go, currently i have offer from University For The Creative Arts, Northumbria university, Coventry university and waiting result from Teeside, portsmouth and  chester. Im majoring in graphic design, was confusing which uni should i go.
*
Hi there, I would surely recommend you university of Northumbria. It is located in Newcastle and there is alot of historical building, the culture there is different. There is many cultural events that usually happen in Newcastle e.g. art gallery, musical events and others.

Also University of London. It is because ur course is Graphic and you do need a lot of ideas, creativity and also the environment is one of the main factor. Therefore before selecting uni. Apart from looking for the uni ranking, the place is also another factor. If the place is interesting and there is other cultural things you can learn then it will be good for you.

Kind Regards...

can anyone tell me more bout ITB ( Institute Technology Bandung) for pharmacy course..izit only recognize in Malaysia how bout other countires like UK AUS Spore
*
For all the institute in malaysia, it is usually not recognised in other countries. They will ask you to study an additional year in order to be recognised. I think you should try twinning programme e.g. 2 years in Malaysia and 2 years in UK. UK will be the good for pharmacy because you will be able to get job after you graduate. Besides, with the weak currency exchange at the moment it will be the same price as Aus.

If you need any further assistance in choosing which university please leave your message.

I'm going to start my postgrad studies in Newcastle University this September. Could you please tell me which is one better; living in a uni hostel or a private accommodation? (the range of allowance that I might get is around 400 pound/month)

Added on May 16, 2009, 8:25 ami'm sorry, that 400pound/month is solely on accommodation allowance. ok no, make it like 350-400.
*
Thank you for your question. I would think accommodation in the uni will be better for new students because you don't need to worry about electric and gas. Besides, in private accommodation you will need to worry who you will be staying with.

hey, im heading to University of Salford this september.

just wondering, should i buy my laptop over there or here in Malaysia?

thanks! smile.gif
*
For your information, it does not really matter where you buy. You will still have the world wide coverage. I would surely recommend you purchase HP or Asus as their service is good in UK.

Have you arrange your pick up from the airport to the university. Do let me know if you have not as we offer that service as well.

Any further assistance do PM me.

I am most probably entering University of Salford, Manchester.

What do you think of the University? in term of facilities, education and etc.

Im taking Bsc in Quantity Surveying and Salford has the best in Build Environment.

What's your comment on this?
*
Hi there, For your information. I am also a QS but I did not study in University of Salford. University of Salford is a very famous school in Quantity Surveying. It is one of the top school for QS as well. My boss and uncle is graduate from there (20 years ago). If you need any pick up service from airport to the uni, please let me know. I would be able to check whether there is any pick up service. There will be only a small charges on the pick up. I am not sure whether there is any orientation offer.

Keep in touch. PM me if you need any further assistance.

Hello there.

I heard of a scheme that students graduate from UK based university in Malaysia are egligible to apply a 1-2 years permit in UK to look for job. Is there such thing? Thanks a lot.
*
This is what they call postal worker (point based scheme). You will stand a better chance in applying it if you are in UK. Which University are you currently studying.

What course are you studying?

Probably you could think of doing a Postgraduate in UK. Then you will get higher point and then you will be able to apply work permit there which is 4 years.

Hi I am asking for my girlfriend. It's because I'm plannning to go over UK for PG, then we heard of this scheme which she considers to participate in order to go with me (she doesn't want to study anymore). We're from University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Chemical Engineering. However, she doesn't mind to get a non-engineering work over there.
*
you can surely ask ur gf try applying it. Try logging to

http://www.ukimmigration.com/five-tier-poi...em-overview.htm

Hopefully this will be able to help you. There is also another type of scheme which is holiday makers (i am not sure whether it is still on or not.

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/in...ngholidaymakers

There is no hard trying. Any more question do let me know.

*
You should try to see whether University of Manchester do provide discount for international students. Try contacting their international student office.

Also try to look whether the government do offer loan or scholarship.

Last option is to loan from the bank which might be be the highest risk

Most common are:

JPA scholarship, MARA scholarship (Bumis only)~

you need proof of academic excellence in order for these government agencies to even consider you for a scholarship, interviews are to be expected...

Agree with you...a way to try out as well
