well said... a lot of ppl just want to look nice...
but they did not know they have to pay more for the tire until their tire change...
example 17 inch tire will cost more than 400 if you want better grade... of course they will say no need...
coz who will pay for a RM1600 tire change on a wira... ya there is some ppl will do so...
do mostly they will change to lower grade or cheaper tires below RM250...
they will think like no one know/see mah...
once i saw a E class Benz fitted on indo brand (if not mistaken) i was like wah...
*
so far i've never see expensive car running on made in malaysia tyres, i mean those BMW and merz lar, not civic, camry and accord...

style really not that important, unless the bigger rims can give me extra horsepower and improve aerodynamic, otherwise i will stick with 14" (stock) or 15"

i still dont know what's the point changing to larger rims in low horsepower and low torque cars.....

if me i will prefer my car look as stock as possible on the outside, but inside might have a supercharger brows.gif impossible lar....

and still wondering why cars like BMW have a large rims hmm.gif

maybe if stock BMW come with 17" if we downgrade to 15" got more power laugh.gif

WRC car i think only 15" or 16" what they want to the best time and to win the race, not win the chick and become rempit (edisi kereta)

haha yeah... to thin tyre also will easily cause puncture and also rim to damage...
u know la... they will go thru everything more than 100km/h gravel, muddy or sandy or tarmac...
*
and even the rims dented they wont care, at least the size didnt change and still can attract chicks then ok lor tongue.gif

QUOTE(kcng @ May 8 2009, 09:37 AM)
u wan downgrade can, but can your smaller rims clear the disc brakes or not first
*
so they use larger rims because of the disc brake? hmm.gif

QUOTE(azbro @ May 8 2009, 10:45 AM)
90% of the time ppl. use huge rims just for cosmetic changes.

I kinda agree, WRC cars use those sizes, last month (or was it two months back), Toyota brought in a TRD prepared Vios for the Sepang track using 14inch  hmm.gif
*
vios dont have that much horsepower and torque to move larger rims lar laugh.gif

the larger the rims the more power you need to move it, but i heard some said slightly larger rims is good for long journey, like 14" > 15"

Hankook is Korean made but so far no user complain about the tire...
it is more comfortable than PP2 but cornering is not as nice as PP2...

hmmm... y everyone think of changing to 17"... with Vios...

BTW Vtec_lee,
you size is over the 3% rules.... smile.gif
refer to the following chart... 1 is over rules and the other one is ok...
*
solely for 1 reason, STYLE!!!

but after that they will complain underpower, bumpy, tyres scratch fender, and the most important, high fuel consumption yawn.gif

QUOTE(Vtec_lee @ May 11 2009, 11:11 AM)
Hi Michael9413,

Thanks for your feed back. But i not understand about chart you provided. Can you please explain more details abt it?? sorry for any inconvenient.

Besides, for your opinion...what size of rim i should change or stick with original 14" rim??any idea??

I plan to change 17" because it will make my car look more "chun" haha!! brows.gif

Size over 3% rules is it mean that not suitable to install 17" for vios and it will cause underpower??? hmm.gif
*
underpower is for sure, dont expect a 102hp (on-engine horsepower) 1NZ-FE to push 17" like 14"

the 3% rule is for the speedometer, over 3% wheel size then you will get a wrong reading, while you are driving 60km/h on the speedometer, the actual speed is actually 65km/h, but that's just an example

Yes stock rims..
Tyres now is 195/60R15.
Want to change tyre width, more stable.
Do you think the car will be underpowered?
*
will be slightly underpower and higher fuel consumption, but you get a more stable ride in exchange..

QUOTE(michael9413 @ May 14 2009, 05:57 PM)
what is the Ori tire size??? we ned to know that...
if you wanna change to bigger size liek the 215 width that you said...
you need to change to at least 16"
the width will make the car more stable... but the tire condition and also quality is also important...
just like the GY NCT5 which normal user said ok...
but do you know that a lot ppl know that it sucks???
i have my ABS activated most of the time when the rain just started and when i'm driving down hill...
do not think wider tire will give you more grip if you wanna but cheap cheap cheap tires...
*
anti NCT5 fan club, anyone? laugh.gif

not that call anti... if you really tried with b4 compare to others it really sucks... left 30~40% the performance drop a lot...
i remember some one in AW forum said... in terms of grip... the forummer said...
GY NCT5 is 40% < Hankook V12 40% < Michelin PP2
he tried all 3 before... yes PP2 is a bit expensive but worth the $$$... used 2 set of PP2 on my Vios after the stock NCT5 tires...
@superdeemon,
you can try Hankook V12 as that is the most famous tire in AW forum...
cheaper than PP2... for 195/55 R15 Hankook is only at RM175 while PP2 is at RM230 in Klang...
*
of coz lar, NCT5 is just a killer laugh.gif

i just changed to Hankook V12... feel more comfort... raining a little during driving around...
still pretty new... grip ok la... haven try hard corner yet...
then grip also not bad but feel a bit slow when i slightly press my brake pedal... maybe it is more towards comfort...
have to season it until 500km then give it some test...

BTW... 1 of the AW forummer give me this...
read it yourself as the Opel Corsa team give 11 tires a test...  smile.gif
*
hard corner is the best way to test the tyres cornering ability, go test it brows.gif

g'year excellence cost me rm260 per pc and so far, it is quiet and smooth. But, havebt got a chance to test in the wet condition yet due no rain fall recently, mostly hot-hot-hot weather.

i've thought of hankook but dared not gamble the korean brand and as for falken 912, i don;t really like the tread/groove. Maybe, next time i'll go for michelin brand only

Thank you
*
michelin dont have nice looking tread design also, i like falken Ze912 design, especially the semi circle at the center there biggrin.gif

Well Michelin is a bit over price... but the performance is good also...
the rubber valves is very expensive!!! Alu one only RM8 (Ban Hooi quoted me last Sat)
y every one dare not try Hankook Evo V12?
feedback is very positive in AW forum and i just change mine to that...
Please refer to my previous post... Opel give a very good feedback on that tire... smile.gif

No Falken 912... the thread shoulder wear off pretty fast...
*
but i dont know V12 available in 14" or not, if got then maybe will try after my Ze912 worn out

V12 have good feedback from the AW forummers...
i'm using a new set now... 1 week ++ already nice...
nice grip and also the side wall not too hard...

912 a lot of AW forummers said the shoulder thread wear off quite fast...
the side wall softer than V12 hence more comfort...

tat is wat i know la...
*
is it because they underinflated their tyres all the time? if that's the case side shoulder sure wear off faster hmm.gif yet to see the wear rate of this Ze912 on my car, so far i pump the tyres once a month, and the front pressure really drop a lot shakehead.gif

Thanks for the feedback. So far, early reviews are good. But I heard that Korean-made tyres tend to "bulge" in the long run due to the difference of climate. Any comment on this?
*
it wont, unless your tyres have defects or you've done something else to the tyres

if that's the case, i would say made in malaysia tyres tend to be a "killer" in long run...

Well Oly... i was like you... i wen to Klang to changed my Vios tire 2 weeks ago... b4 that i survey a lot in AW and here...
in AW a lot of forumer changed to Hankook V12 and Falken 912... more comfort compare to PP2...

now 2 weeks in Hankook V12... done about 500km already... so far no problem... comfort increase compare to PP2...
haven drive fast in heavy pours until now so nothing much to comment there... but dry it handles well...
but have to get use to it as its handling not as good as PP2 as it have softer wall to give you more comfort...
my gf also like it as it is not too bumpy on humps and also even roads...

Falken 912 a lot of ppl feedback that the shoulder thread wore quite fast... mostly like amduser said that the pressure not steady...
duno what cause that...
i think it may cause by that also... i heard from ppl Toyo T1R also... have to check pressure always as it face the same problem with Falken 912...
my PP2 sometimes check after 2 weeks only 1 PSI different or sometimes non...
but always i release 1/3 of the air inside and pump in again just to make sure the pressure is good...
how much do  you pump in front and also at the back??? what car are u using?
er... so far not ppl complaint la... as amduser said most of the time it cause by something else...
or maybe they did not drive the car far a long time... this is my 1st try on Hankook also... wink.gif
last time all the way Michelin... smile.gif  thumbup.gif
*
the problem that cause the front tyre to lose pressure faster maybe is because the weight ratio of the car, heavy in front and lighter in rear, my rear tyres after 1 month the pressure from 205kpa drop to 195kpa like this only, but the front from 225kpa drop to around 195kpa sweat.gif

y here so many falken912 n hankok v12 fans?
actually there n lots of tyre to choose...!
michelin,bridgestone,yokohama,toyo,goodyear,pirelli

4me falken912 quite comfort but grip in wet condition poor n threadwear very fast...tats y the tyre cheaper...!

hankook V12 i haven tyre b4...but the thread looks solid n sporty...the tyre wont be as comfort as falken912 but i sure performance sure better!
*
i'm not falken Ze912 fans, but this tyres are affordable, even cheaper than michelin Xm1 in my car's tyre size, at least Ze912 is better than those made in malaysia, especially NCT5

of course price giving high priority when choosing tyre...
so choosing michelin, yokohama etc not for budget man like me...
4 me my Continental CCT 1 are the best tyre i have been use...
its better than nct5 and turanza..
already 2 1/2 years now and still give good performance wet or dry (pls... for normal user... )  rclxms.gif

for falken ze912... never use before but feel want to try.... heard many good comment..
people said falken thread wear fast and so on continental cct1 (i already use 2 1/2 years.. thread around 40~50% i guess).. How fast this falken thread wear out?????
if normal user i think it can hold around 2 ~ 3 years (acceptable as > 3 years tyre from manufacturing date will be harden and performance will drop)..  smile.gif

actually quite interested with michelin 2, not pp2 but xm1... but budget too tight...  sweat.gif

Added on May 29, 2009, 1:52 am

many use it as they dont know much about tyre technology... what they know only brand..
just ask them about TOYO tyre... many of my old2 friend thought it cheapo tyre without see the price tag..
same with sime tyre... ask people everywhere... i believe same answer given... malaysia punye.. tayar chokia..  tongue.gif
*
for sure most of the tyres in the market are aim for lasting about 2 to 3 years, if performance tyres like those semi-slick then dont ever think about 3 years lar
